West Coast Robbed of Flag: Holding the man in the 2005 grand final

Sampi, Sheed, both start with S, both have 5 letters in their surnames.

The universe evened out.

I don't know, how many years have you been waiting for that Grand Final record to even out?
Couldn't care less about our GF record honestly. Some teams like St Kilda, 1 flag out of 7, would sacrifice their first born child for 15 flags out of 42. It's all relative.
Not even going to start on 2 of the Don's "flags" being won from a round robin :p

I wake up in a cold sweat every night thinking of Brent Staker playing on, pushing people in the back and fumbling easy balls in front of goal.

Bloke should get an instant life membership for Sydney.
Instead he gets a king hit for it

2012 still burns doesn't it :D
Yes.

I've watched that game again and again and the result is always the same!

I still can't believe we lost it. Not that I was cocky, arrogant and thought we had the flag in the bag. I never did that and always conceded the better team won. Just the number of crucial mistakes we made, important contests we lost and goals we missed (compared to Sydney playing out of their skins and grabbing their chances.)

So many "if onlys", "what ifs" and Hawk guns playing sub-par. And to think there was just a kick in it with 40 secs to play when Malceski kicked the sealer.

AAAAAARRRRGGGHHH

Thank God we made amends the following year.

We lost that 2005 GF when Woosha dropped Lynch for bloody Gaspar. Could not believe it, still cant.

Yea was a bad decision that one
Should of played Phil Matera as well with hindsight
Sampi should of got a free, just unfortunate that he missed out on getting a free kick
But really felt Banfield lost the grandfinal when he missed the easiest shot on goal.
35 metres out on his left side, he normally would of kicked that 9 times out of ten
He choked when it mattered most in the dying minutes of game.
The unsheed.

Didn't he drop Lynch as full forward to make Gardiner full forward? Gardiner was a ruckman coming back from a knee and was totally ineffectual as a forward.....as you would expect

Which speaks volumes about how awful Lynch was in 05.

Lynch didn't hit his straps as a forward until mid 06.

He had been a reasonable forward and kicked a few goals in 2005. He was certainly more likely than Gardiner. Taking nothing away from Gardener as a ruckman but he was the third ruckman alongside Cox and Seaby and this unbalanced the side. The selectors had already gambled by including Gaspar and Casey Green. Of the three, Green was the only contributer

He'd have put us three goals up in the last too. Played on and ran into a Sydney defender. He was a spud that day and most other days too.

Lynch kicked 31 goals from 23 games in 2005. Leading up to him being dropped he had kicked 5 goals in 7 games.

The only place that's considered reasonable numbers for a key forward is Fremantle :p

Lynch's last game of the year was the QF, he got no goals and Gardiner got 2 so that's why the call was made.

Hindsight shows Gardiner didn't do much, but it's not like Lynch was in good form either when he got dropped.

When Leo Barry took the mark Sampi was being held, he should of been paid a free kick.
Don't belive me? Look:

The Sydney player has a handful of Sampi's jumper. That's holding the man any day of the week.

Are you suggesting Leo Barry is not a star?
