We're down here at the Colosseum viewing a playing surface that is ready to go next week.
Tonight will be an exciting one as we recap the season just gone, thank our departing wonders, welcome our new wonders, have a look at the season and week ahead, announce the leadership group and most importantly induct two new members to the wonders hall of fame.
Grab a beer or your choice of beverage from the bar, enjoy the first course, lets launch season 38.

What a season it was in season 37 as the Wonders finished fifth on the ladder and pushed for yet another finals berth.
The season started in a new training facility down in Bainlea where we faced, and beat the Roys in a practice match, unfortunately it didn't set us up for a win in round one as the Swamprats got the better of us.
Six wins from our next eight games had the Wonders looking swell at the half way point but a few second half losses had us fighting for the top of the ladder to facing an elimination final after a 9-7 home and away record.
We won't talk too much about finals but an unfortunate slip against the Bears sent us packing home.
ClarkeM stood in as admin for the majority of the season and led a fantastic award season which had the Wonders well represented.
DenieD, dogs105, and AnUltimateRessie found spots in the All-SFA team while Cubs2Lions finished fifth in the Mobbs medal. DenieD was also right up there in the FRED medal count but unfortunately it a third placed finish in the end but a fantastic season overall. The Beez award had two Wonders in the top twenty with ClarkeM and AnUltimateRessie being highly regarded. Finally, Pamcake1 finished second in the EKA but won the rising star award.
Club-wise, the best and fairest was won clearly by dogs105 with DenieD (leading goal kicker), Pamcake1 (best rookie, posting award), BallaratBulldog (best club man), BFew (captains award), and AnUltimateRessie collecting awards.

It's always unfortunate to lose Wonders but to round out the season 37 talk, lets thank our now past players.
SM moved back to the Hawks over the off-season after 80 games and five seasons on the West Coast.
We finally let Soggy2112 go into retirement. Soggy's career included 52 games and six seasons at the Wonders where they also won a best and fairest and a captains award.
PVF departs after a huge and succesful stint at the club. PVF played 227/281 games for the Wonders, won a Mobbs medal, four premierships, a best and fairest, a goal kicking award, a captains award, a best clubman award and was a past captain.
Rioli2Rioli (33 games), SweetD (83 games), and Wojcinski (146 games) have also finished with the Wonders.
We thank these players for their service to the club and league.

Onto season 38.... and we've been busy this off-season yet again.
Please welcome akkaps, Rubber Arm, Ressies SwampPig, and Giant YoYo to the Wonders.
akkaps returns to the Wonders after previously playing 14 matches for us. They come after a stint at the Hawks. Their 372 league games adds enormous experience to a list that has welcomed six rookies, and two second season players to the list in the last two seasons.
Akkaps will wear a blank guernsey.
Rubber Arm is a returnee to the league after previously playing seven games for the Demons in season 27. A big break, but I'm sure it has served them well.
Rubber Arm will wear number 37.
Ressies SwampPig also returns to the league alongside Rubber Arm. SwampPig also last played in season 27 where they took the field 11 times for the Las Vegas Bears. You'll look better in the West.
Ressies SwampPig will wear number 44.
Late to the party, but thats how you are supposed to be. Giant YoYo joins the league for the first time and we can't wait to watch their rookie season at the Wonders.
Giant YoYo will wear number 15.

You might've looked at the squad list and saw an addition that hasn't been mentioned yet and this one is an exciting one!
The Wonders currently sit on 699 club games! Round 1 will be our 700th game in the league, a huge milestone, and what better way to celebrate than welcoming club founder, league immortal, and Wonders hall of fame member eagleskickass back for a one game stint (unless someone can convince EKA otherwise).
EKA last played a game in season 18!!
We'll also be wearing our heritage round jumper in round one.

ClarkeM worked hard on a fixture in his admin stint and it was adopted pretty quickly by new admin The Filth Wizard.
The fixture includes two byes (round 2 & 14) in a 18 round season that will not have mid-week games this season!
The Wonders will face the Demons, Old Boys, Swamprats, and Hawks twice and it all kicks off with a game against the Demons in round one. The next time we play the Demons, which will be round 16, will be heritage round.

Alright, one last season 38 announcement before we head into the hall of fame inductions....
Unfortunately, I haven't left so the club will be stuck with myself as captain for another season.
HARPSichord yet again joins me as the vice captain and ClarkeM somehow has unfired himself and will return in the leadership group.
It'll be fantastic to see the experience of DenieD back in the group yet again while fellow season 33 debutant, Cubs2Lions will also return.
I've gone on record that I'm not the biggest fan of large leadership groups but after stunning the league in her initial season we would be silly not to progress this player, and it is fantastic to see that Pamcake1 has accepted an invite to also join the leadership group.
Unfortunately, I haven't left so the club will be stuck with myself as captain for another season.

Our first induction, and a long overdue induction.
SSwans2011
SSwans career stretched 364 games, all of which in Wonders colours. They debuted all the way back in season 17 and from there has been a 2x premiership player and was selected in the All-SFA team of season 20.
SSwans had a three season stint as the clubs captain across season 19, 20, and 21 and was the last captain to actually induct someone into this hall of fame.
Swans final season as captain before handing over the reigns was a premiership season.
Other awards across their 22 season career includes a best clubman award in season 25 and a captains award in season 36.
A well deserved induction.

PVF
PVF first joined the Sweet Football Association in season 9 and was a Demons player for two seasons before returning to the league in season 15 in Wonders colours.
PVF had a highly decorated 281 game career where he was a 4x premiership winner with three of those being at the Wonders.
Another former captain, PVF held captaincy for just one season and had a great influence, leading the club to a premiership.
They were also a constant come club award season with a best and fairest in season 16, a leading goal kicker award in season 23 and an array of other awards including best clubman, a posting award, and a captains award.
In season 16, PVF was also the leagues Mobbs medallist gaining an All-SFA selection for the second season in a row.
