You mean blue like cronulla sharks, canterbury bulldogs, titans, roosters?
Of those only Canterbury is in Western Sydney, and it would be easy enough to avoid comparison with them (and North Melbourne) by choosing a different blue. Someone had powder blue based on the North Carolina kit or something, and I thought that looked really distinct. There is a problem with too many clubs having blue in their strip, but as long as the GWS colours are immediately identifiable that's all they have to worry about.
I get your point, and there IS a strong case for using blue. But I don't think the ARL's colours are such a problem (see swans/dragons).
Your point is a good one, but I think just choosing whatever colour isn't being used for the sake of it would be really damaging for GWS. I also think the Sydney Swans aren't a good place to look for how to get this team up and going, they're basically a transplanted team and I think that's part of the reason why they've taken so long to get a foothold in Sydney.
The prospective Western Sydney fans need to be catered too in every way possible, and a huge part of that will be to get a kit and a nickname they'll be proud to identify with.
I think it is very important to avoid ARL nicknames though. I've tried a blue version anyway but the orange would be my favorite.
Those look alright I reckon. Have you tried maybe blue with Orange trim? Have it looking like it may be a grey wolf at dusk?
