Ray Card on Keith Greig (I was sitting on the fence in front of it, you could hear the smack as he got him)
Stan Magro on Jesaulenko
Voss on Richardson
Worsfold on Brereton
Ablett Snr nearly killing John Gastev
Ablett Jnr on Wirrpanda (he jumped straight up but jeez it was good)

T. Selwood and Rance for the only one worth mentioning this year.
that was more of a headclash than a hit, doesn't really belong in this thread.

Ricciuto on Kemp is probably my favourite of all time

1:30, a thing of beauty.

Brereton on Van der Haar , basically ended his career .
Worsfold on Modra , did'nt even look for the ball just ran straight through him .

Dirtiest thing ever seen in a game would be an interesting thread , for me probably Leigh Mathews on Barry Cable would be up there , also the Bryan Adamson incident in the 80's caused a big stir in the west .

Haha... Athel Miles. :thumbsu:

Waterhouse on Fewster. On the same team at the time.

Southern on Heady.

Wirrpanda on MacManus.

Remember some brutal hits in the 92 WAFL derby grand final. Easts just went around hitting guys in the head.

Troy Cook on that soft **** Mitchell White.

Tony Lockett elbowing a young Guy McKenna , loved it when Peter Craven was given the chance of revenge on Lockett on some footy show , and took to a manequin dressed up as Lockett with a baseball bat .

Gary Ablett senior just about ended Wayne Johnson's career on the Moorabool st flank with a ripping shirt front. From memory I think he may have ruptured his spleen. Could be wrong on that but definitely messed him up.

Gary Ablett Senior on Kristian Bardsley

Gary Ablett Senior on John Worsfold, Hickey Stand pocket. Gem of a bump.

Gary Ablett on john Gastev. Nearly killed him.

Just a few from memory...

Biggest hit I ever saw was in a reserves game. Can't remember what year it was but it was a Fitzroy game against Melbourne.

It happened right in front of me. I can't recall the player who was hit but Rod Grinter absolutely flattened him. It was a legal bump too, just a clean shirt front. The kid was out like a light and I swear he turned about as pale as I've ever seen. He looked like he'd dropped dead.

Easily the biggest hit I've ever seen.

Early 90's.

Darren Prichard was chasing Dean Kemp up the middle of Subicao, I think Waterman bumped Prichard and knocked him into the air and as he fell I think it was Wilson hit him / bumped him on the shoulder in mid air and Prichard did a full 360 spin in the air and hit the dirt like a rag doll and bounced.

Didn't move!

Just the timing, angle and physics involved in crunching him twice and the spin in mid air was simple poetry in motion.

Ahhhhhhhhh.........the good old days!

Actually this was a pretty legal bump even in todays standards.

This is not a troll:D

The infamous first line!

I recall watching a replay of one of the two Eagles v Cats grand finals and I was stunned by the amount of head high contact that was let go by the umpires in that era.

Both sides basically were allowed to tackle and elbow opponents high without even so much as a free kick.

Picket against the dees a few yrs back which basically ended his career, and ended the shirt front. KO'd his opponent with a perfect bump, wasnt high or anything, just a perfect hit

ah the memories

for me - Worsfold on Brereton and most of Picket

Most mentioned would be get a custodial sentence today regardless of the laws of the game.

We should seperate the legal from the illegal, the snipers from the front on, etc.

After hearing all the "how soft is AFL these days", and then watching that first page u-tube video, all i can say is that 95% of those hits were conducted by players taking the SOFT option, and leaving the ground to make contact.

The ones where a player goes for the hip n shoulder, feet firmly planted, they win respect, but also end up doin damage to themselves (just watch!).. But the rest who leave their feet are nothing more than soft football acts - don't get me wrong, they are by some big bad guys, and would defiantly hurt, but I can't beliebve the amount of cheap shots taken, yet accepted??

Surely leaving your feet to bump someone high while protecting yourself is one of the worst dog acts - especially when the opponent is unaware of contact ala 99.99% of those hits.

Pickett on Krummell = Devestating

100% Agree

That was my first thought watching that YouTube clip was the huge amount of them that were caused by the ones delivering the bumps that were off the ground.

Thought that was pretty soft and certainly not displeased the AFL has taken action to prevent these sorts of charges.

There was a bump on Adam McPhee which was the biggest ive ever seen.
I think it would have been either 04,05 and pretty sure it was against the bulldogs.
Anyway he was chasing after someone, and then out of nowhere i think it might have been robbins, he jumps and absolutely FLATTENS mcphee, i remember the commentators going on about it forever and the slow mo replay made itlook even woese.
He went off for about a quarter then came back on.
was gold
