What do you really think of Pelchin?

On a personal level I cant comment because I have never met him.

On a professional level I cant comment because if I really had a clue I would be making decisions in my working life that were discussed by the masses on internet forums.

Otherwise I have a premiership t shirt and dvd from 08 that he played a part in and I am confident this booty might be added to in the foreseeable future so I am not about to criticize.

Our list has been managed to the point that in the year following the grand final victory, we are able to trade in an oppositions best player and another that finished in an oppositions top 5 in the B&F and still have breathing space for a back up ruck and to top up buddy's salary in a year or two's time.

I would say that is excellent work.

Well IMO we've lost every trade this week. Not even close to being win-wins.

And just so stoked we have all those 3rd and 4th round picks in a weak draft!!

Can only assume we will now give up the two third round picks for Fraser.

Grrrrrrrrrrrr.

In all honesty when Hawthorn was getting r*ped all year because of injuries and so on, if I said to you Burgoyne and Gibson would come to us end of year, and will will give up 2 fringe players and 1 good player, are you telling me you would not be happy.

Come on, thats bullshit.

So we lost out on better trade picks in a crap draft. Big deal.

We are a STRONGER side now thanks to the BIGGER PICTURE...:thumbsu:

This.

We are positioned nicely. Can not wait to see the remains of tomorrow.

On this week's trades I'm in the thumbs down category...we overpaid for Burgoyne who wanted to leave his club and undervalued our own by releasing them relatively cheaply to other clubs. In addition he has not done anything to address our real problems which is lack of a key position defender and a decent ruckman. To make matters worse he must be somewhat responsible for the Campbell Brown debacle...On this weeks' performance 3/10 for me.

You, like most of the others on here dont have a clue. We traded our pick 9 + willo for an elite midfielder. Considering Willo was one of the most frustrating players this yr, has done nothing for 3yrs now and played out the season in the VFL he's the one of our premiership players I was happy to let go. It also gives full opportunity to dowler or thorpe to show us what they've got.

Can't do much for Benny and Kennedy. If we had offered Kennedy even 2 yrs he wouldn't have walked, simple as that. But with ellis, shiels, lewis, bateman etc running around i'm not shattered they are going anyway. All in all we didn't win as we usually do during trade week but we were far from bent over

I like Pelchen.

I'm mostly just trying to catch up with what's going on with him. Now that the Burgoyne deal's been done, I can make sense of what he was saying earlier in the week, that we prepared ourselves to be active in this trading period by stocking up with 17 year olds last year. I guess that meant we could afford to go slightly over the odds in order to get what we needed, as our top-end drafting has been taken care of.

Gibson was vital. Our backline was the worst performed in the league in 2009, by a fair margin. By 'worst', I mean leakiest - it allowed the most scoring shots per inside 50. I'll give up a 2nd and 3rd round pick if it means sorting that out. And getting the deal done early meant we could concentrate on Burgoyne.

I wouldn't normally be all that thrilled with pick 9 and Williams for a player who already stated he was coming to our club anyway. But its all in the pay-off. Our starting 18 is definitely stronger because of it.

McGlynn and Kennedy are trickier. We've got a lot of kids on our list - something like ten of them, all on the fringe of selection when our list is near full-strength. They can't all play. McGlynn and Kennedy have been offered deals better than we can offer, and a much better chance at serious game time. We lose some depth, but there's really not much we could have done beyond giving three-year deals to players who we might not even have to call on. So I guess we offered them reduced deals, they said no, and we cut our losses. It's not ideal, but it's not the worst thing in the world - and we have a couple of draft picks we might be able to snag a ruckmen with. And we really need a ruckman, of any sort.

I'm guessing we did the deal last night in order to give us time to get another one done today - otherwise we would have held out on Kennedy and McGlynn until the last minute.

People who have responsibility for AFL club list management don't have the luxury that fans do of thinking that much with their hearts, they need to use their heads more.

Hawks, have faith in Pelchen & Co that they're working to a plan with the clubs best interests in mind.

Had a great trade week. People just overate there own players, underate other teams (Burgoyne).

Williams + 9 for Burgoyne is a BIG win for Hawthorn. I can't wait until next year until the people bagging this trade see. It will be quite funny actually.

25+41 for Gibson and 69. Also a win for Hawthorn.

We lost Kennedy and McGlynn, of which I only care about JK3, but he wanted out (got a great deal for what he's put out, as did Mumford, you can't blame either player really).

Pelchen is in my book a genius now. Added a gun and a good player and only lost Williams from our best 22.

I am not sold on this guy at all and i don't really know that he has done a whole lot for our club at all since he has been here. He seems to attract a lot of negative publicity towards us.

I hear talk about how great he is in trade week but i have yet too see it.

Big week coming up for him. If he can't make something happen this year his days must surely be numbered.

Hes had a huge hand in delivering our 10th Flag, turned our list around to be the envy of all clubs, gets the job done in excellent fashion, who gives a croc if other clubs / supporters dont like him? We should be kissing his behind!!! We got plenty to look forward to over the next few years.
Good Job I say!

Simply an initial point in time assessment of this week's activities. (No reflection on his prior performance.) Only time will tell how this week's selections play out and whether the decisions made benefit the club.

St Kilda and Geelong called, they want their 8 goals back from the PF and GF.

2007 was injured most of the season and add to that the emergence of Buddy he did well with the chances he was getting. He was never gunna kick another 70 with Buddy in the forward line.

Agree with the sentiment, just be factual.

all the negativity comes from other clubs, just because he wont bend over for any of them and he tries to get trades where we win and others lose.
Isnt that what we want? Us stronger and them weaker.

As a person I dont know him but is our list stronger than it was last year, I say yes.

If he somehow manages to get us a ruckman today I would say he has exceeded expectation by a mile.

I would say the chances of Ben McGlynn playing in a Hawthorn flag would've been pretty thin. Kennedy wanted to go, so what can we do?

It seems people on here are so sentimentally attached to players that they overinflate their ability. Remember Barker and Holland? We hung onto these two and in their last 2 seasons they were dead weight.

The reality is we lost 1 good forward, 1 fringe player and 1 potential midfield gun for 1 decent defender and a bona fide gun mid. I'll take that every season thanks.

Add to that our youngsters in Savage and Sheils and we have covered K3 and Benny already.

I think Pelchin has done a good job.

I wasn't particularly impressed this trade week.
As far as I was aware, no one else was interested in Gibson.
We could have strung out the Roos all week, and could have only paid out out 25 for him.

That way, we still had 41 on the table for the Burgoyne trade all week.

I rate both Kennedy and McGlynn and I'm surprised we could only get a range of 3rd and 4th round picks for both. The Swans definitely got a great deal there. Both were in our best 22 this year and I think would be thereabouts in 2010. I think we should have at least got a 2nd round pick for both.

If we had a second round pick, we could have traded that plus pick 9, and potentially another 3rd round pick to Port for Burgoyne.

That way, we keep Williams who I still rate and had an okay year prior to his injury.

I also think we should have made a bigger play for Lake who is a far superior defender than Gibson.

There was also a lot of other opportunity that arose throughout the week, and I think our early trade for Gibson hurt us in that regard.

Oh well, we did get the players we targetted, the question is did we pay too much?

I think so, but if they win us a flag next year, I won't be complaining.
