Opinion What if Brisbane win the premiership AND get the number one draft pick this year?

Will you be mad if Brisbane win the flag and get the number one pick this year?

No I'm asking how Would Bulldogs or Brisbane acquire pick 2? or Collingwood pick 4. None of those teams had anywhere close to the draft capital to make a fair trade - You may as well not have father/son rules at all.

The big issue with the current set up is that there is a discount built in, but clubs are giving other clubs further discounts by not making them pay top dollar. Darcy and Daicos would have gone 1 and 2 if it was a free for all, but because Dogs and Collingwood did deals with GWS and North they 'decided' not to bid - basically giving Dogs and Collingwood a discount worth an extra pick in the 30s.

Theres far better, common sense approaches they can use to increase the price of the picks, which is what they're bringing in next year.

Find a way. Trade out players, use draft picks. Or, miss out.

F/S should be a nice-to-have. It shouldnt ruin the entire draft process - which in many cases it has.

How was your grand final day lol

Fine actually (enjoyed Katy) least the Bulldogs did not win or Collingwood. Brisbane did well and I like most of their side probably bar Zorko but that’s par for the course.

6 year wait before another interstate wins it imo

GWS can really like the way their list is shaping you need luck though we won’t be as lucky next year had an injury list from heaven unfortunately our coach is just a better Hinkley really good at getting to finals awful when there still enjoyed the season anyway the writing was on the wall in r15 literally said as soon as finals began the two I didn’t want to face were Dogs/Lions we had no hope against them

What makes you suggest that? Brisbane lost Daniher but are about to add the number 1 pick and another first round pick. Will Ashcroft is going to get better, McCluggage looked really good this year, Cam Rayner started to show really good signs of stardom this year, Lachie Neale should have a few more good years in him etc. I'm pretty sure Brisbane will be in a great position to go back-to-back next year.

Sydney, GWS and Port Adelaide should still be top 6 teams next year. Fremantle barely missed the finals this year and had some good acquisitions this off season so you'd think they're a good chance to play finals in 2025. Adelaide and/or Gold Coast could also jump into the top 8 if things go right. West Coast is probably the only non-Vic team that I'd definitely rule out of the finals race next season.

Not sure how you could possibly be confident that Vic teams are going to win the next 6 premierships.

Last 4 interstate premiership teams were in 2006, 2012, 2018, 2024.

Unless someone breaks that trend (which I doubt they will), we’ll be seeing the next one in 6 years time lol. Most likely West Coast too because they have an even bigger habit of winning one every 12 years or so.

Yeah I think West Coast went 94, 06, 18 so 2030 lines up for them and with the run of 6 years for interstate teams.

I dont think any of us (except maybe West Coast fans) want this but its a cool little trend

Before that the last 5 non-Vic winners were 2001 2002 2003 2004 2005 ....

Obviously Horse has the premiership over Hinkley but I believe he has always had a better team. How Hinkley managed to get that Port team to #2 this year is beyond me.

It’s much as both are trash let’s be real

Getting in Levi could be a help. We won't know until next season, though if he is as good as his brother he will be able to impact on the field fairly quickly. But it is still a net loss compared to the loss of a prime Joe Daniher.
I don't think b2b is out of the question when you consider players coming back from injury, and as you said development and improvement of some existing players but it isn't going to be easy or without teething problems.
