I have posted in a number of different forums, and it seems that the demographics tend to be pretty similar: young, middle class men with an education. Nearly always, the trend is that this group of people, who are computer literate and post in message boards, blogs, etc... tend to swing towards the left of the political spectrum... why do you think that this is so?

That's because those are the sort of people who get up your nose the most ... so you tend to notice them more.

As for me, I've always thought that the overwhelming majority of people who post on Bulletin Boards are young cretins with no class whatsoever (with or without an education) who are moderately or extremely computer literate (but not usually particularly "literate" in any other sense) who don't just "swing" to the extreme right, but are so fixed there that you would have to surgically remove their recti to get them back on to planet earth in a flying pink fit ... yourself being the first and foremost example.

They are invariably anti-welfare, anti-social, anti-life, pro-American neanderthals who live to work, consume and die.

Why do you think this is so?

What do you mean by anti-life?

And I am not against welfare totally... that is a bit of a blanket statement... I am just against the 'welfare industry'. If there is genuine need for support, I am all for it, but I also believe that it is up to the individual to get back on their own 2 feet. Being unemployed for more than 3 months gets a bit ridiculous in my opinion... you have to question their motive.

Anti-Social? Please...

I mean that you bastards know the price of everything and the value of nothing.

This poll, along with the poll about which political parties you support, definately shows that this message forum easily swings towards the Left.

Poor baby, you started a poll which shows you are in the minority, tissue. :p

I can give blanket generalisations just as much as you can. You lefties and intellectuals keep coming up with your utopian visions over your lattes, but want everyone else to actually work and pay for them.

Hey arsewipe, I have worked for 30 years & paid taxes, how long have you been working?

Edit: In that time I have also had 2 children who are both working & paying taxes & have done it with no handouts from the government.

Was I talking to you???

From politicalcompass.org after analysing my personal positions:

Economic Left/Right: 1.00
Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: 7.18

Really hard to see which ideological grouping I'd fit into. On the economic front this indicates that while I'm in favour of a market economy, I will never stand for laissez-faire capitalism nor will I stand for a rigidly socialist or communist system.

Socially though, it indicates I'm somewhere right to far right but I have my quirks in being more "liberal" on some issues than on others.

:)

David,

Thanks for the link! Have done this test a few years ago, but it is good to look at it again.

My results are:

Economic Left/Right: 4.25
Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: 2.87
