I think in reality we are all political hypocrites.

Like those on the left who protest against large multinationals and yet every day they use products from multinationals.

Like those on the right who don't like Aborigines/Muslims/Wogs, well not unless they play for their footy team then they are alright.

Both left and right side of politics are hypocrites.

John Howard made some fiercely anti-Asian immigration remarks as Opposition Leader in 1988.

He was a Hansonite long before term Hansonite existed.

That makes Gough the original Hansonite then doesnt it?

'Ten Point Plan' and the 1998 Native Title Act Amendments

The Howard Government's response to the 1996 High Court Wik judgment was alarmist and discriminatory, predicated on winding back native title rights previously recognised by this judgment. The Government's response was formulated in Howard's '10-Point Plan' which set out 10 principles for amending the Native Title Act 1993.

I too am disgusted and outraged at an elected govt making laws in place of a unelected High Court. Clearly the role of legislator should be with Kirby, McHugh et al. The Australian public shouldnt be allowed a vote, they simply cant be trusted.

We have had this debate before.

Bitching about "judge made law" is terribly unsophisticated - do you want the common law to stand still do you - terra nullius was the single biggest legal fiction in common law history.

The current US Supreme Court is about is literalist as you can get but they still found that W won the US election in 2000.

John,

Why are you so mean to native australians?.
Because he believes Australian Aborigines are inferior in culture to white men. Also they have no right to any part of the continent that has been settled by WASPS.

They can be trusted, just not to make a informed intelligent decision on Land rights.

The Prime Minister who introduced the 1975 Race Discrimination Act and promoted multiculturalism?

Yes the same one that didnt want to let Vietnamese refugees in to the country on the basis that as they were fleeing communism they wouldnt vote for him (though put slightly more colourfully than that).

Correct if I'm wrong (am sure you will) but wasnt the dissenting judgement in Mabo based not on Terra Nullius but on other issues?

My politics is a mix of conservative, libertarian, nationalist and monarchist values. I only vote for independents or minor parties who will put Australia first. I can't stand either of the major parties or the tree huggers. I haven't voted in the poll because it's too subjective.

You sound like a true patriot... good on you! :)

What I don't like about Judges, Magistrates etc... is that they are not held accountable to the people. In some way, they should have to face some kind of election... like the District Attorneys do in the USA.

Now, I admit of knowledge on this is pretty vague, but who appoints the High Court Judges... the Prime Minister? And does that face a confirmation vote, like the US Senate does?

What side of politics are you on? Why? What led you to this idealogy?

I come from a very strong family tradition, from both mum and dad's families, that are leftist, unionist, labour voting die hards, even when in the money and no longer considered working class. I still have very working class attitudes towards alot of things though. When exposed to the right, can't help but feel rebellious and leftist.

These are my political roots and am proud of them!

Independent thinker then?

Right.

If you just look at what Hitler did to Germany then you'll see why. Try to ignore the fact that he went nuts and killed millions, he was a great leader.

Whereas communism (far left) in Russia kind of destroyed their economy.

Facism works (as long as the leader ain't a nutcase), communism doesn't. Democracy is just trying to find a happy medium.

I AGREE!

Look at how he turned around the nation, which was completely broken due to hyperinflation... caused by the unjust Treaty of Versaille (spelling?).

Economically, the regime was brilliant. Prosperity, national pride, getting the nation moving forward.

Unlike the Left, look at Soviet Russia... famine, badly run economic system...

Someone who agrees!

When I say "Hitler was a great leader" people look at me like I'm a Nazi. But you cannot ignore the fact that he did a bloody good job.
