It's the old catch 22.
Appeal and risk losing him for the first round of finals should we make it (or round 1 of next year)...
Plead guilty and potentially lose next weeks game in his absence and not make finals at all.
I truly believe his suspension is a sad decision for football as a whole, but what do you think would be the best decision for the team going forward?
To appeal or not to appeal...
We MUST appeal and take it to court if necessary.
This decision is utter BULL%#$ and everyone knows it. The AFL wants Essendon in the finals, or rather whichever TV station is broadcasting them does, and we all know that when the TV stations say jump the AFL says "how high?".
Screw Demitrou and his slimy kin. We must not let this ludicrous decision stand!!!!
Course you'd challenge. Someone mentioned it's similar to the Ryder incident we had earlier in the year. He was told 2 weeks, early plea of 1, appealed and got straight off.
Difference here being it was more of a shirtfront, whereas Ryder was from side on. Both hits were made on players shorter than them meaning head high contact was inevitable and unavoidable. Ryder's was intended to be a bit more of a shepard too.
No doubt the QCs for Hawks will cite the Ryder incident when arguing his case.
The tribunal will deem the contact to be avoidable, however, the key lies as to whether given the intention to make a legitimate bump, with the shoulder tucked in, was inevitably going to make contact with his head. In other words... Buddy could've pulled out altogether or he could've nothing else than what he did.
