What They're Saying - The Bulldogs Media Thread - Part 4

Bevo and Kylie Watson-Wheeler need to swap jobs.

Bevo assumes absolute control of the club and doesn’t ever have to give a press conference again. No more Bevo’s Briefs!

KWW has to front the media every week and can justify comical game plans as being consistent with the Disney strategy.

VUWO to be renamed Fantasyland. The leadership group to be called the Mousketeers. Goofy to become Head of Football.

All our problems solved!

Speak publicly on behalf of the Club is surely one of those things ?
How often do you hear these short list of presidents in public? I'd bet you don't even know who most of them are.

Geelong - Craig Drummond
Melbourne - Kate Roffey
Brisbane - Andrew Wellington
Sydney - Andrew Pridham
Fremantle - Dale Alcock

Most clubs when they are doing well (as the clubs noted above) and no "big story" erupts you do not hear of.

BUT recently clubs like North, Bumbers, Adelaide (for other reasons), St Kilda and GWS Giants you have certainly heard from the presidents (all struggling).

Collingwood last year had their new President(s) very much in the public domain.

Yep people need to understand the difference between President and CEO. KWW is doing a fantastic job Baines on the other hand absolutely awful and still for the life of me can't work out why we hired him

I'm with Bont. OK, there's a problem/several problems. I remain undecided whether Bev is the omnificent, malevolent dictator or the visionary that Y gen, APS/AGS/ACC students don't get. Maybe we need a Jordan Petersen rather than a change of coach.
Scrag, old Sport. how could you p[ossil;y point the
..and you thought that footy's about kicking and marking ?

Interesting. What is Bains doing wrong ?

I think Baines is overtly focussed on the financial and operational aspects of the footy club as a business and has perhaps handed the keys over to Bev regarding the footballing side of things. The danger there obviously being that Bev has his yes men surrounding him and a totality of power regarding football operations.

Baines has done a great job of delivering financial stability to our humble club but now we need a strategic readjustment to get us back to being a club that values FOOTY over financials.

Since I live in Perth
Putting up Fremantle as an example in addressing the public, Peter Bell on a regular basis is the spokesperson facing the media apart from the coach.
Perhaps our football operations manager or equivalent is the figurehead who should be talking to the members.
Cheers
Stephen

It matters not who presented as the face of the club for its meaningless post season message to the fans. All that matters is that the club takes legitimate steps to address where it went wrong.

I can almost guarantee that there would've been accusations of Grant, Baines or Wheeler being asleep at the wheel during the season. Should they have been the ones who fronted the video. Let alone the reaction that Beveridge would've received had he gone all metaphysical as he invariably does, as a way of addressing his and the teams shortcomings this season. I suspect hat Beveridge will publicly speak to these issues at the Charles Sutton Medal presentation infant of the clubs true believers. They were all on a hiding to nothing and they knew it.

You guys mightn't be satisfied with the end result. However, its pretty obvious that the club understands that it has underachieved this season. This video was the best damage control option for a club looking to assure a shaky membership base not to drop off next year as it is want to do. This is why its on-field leader who is as inoffensive an individual as one can possibly be, publicly fronted up to munch on a shit sandwich as way of trying to sooth its supporter base. As he does, The Bont selflessly took one for his coach, his teammates and the entire club.

I'd like to think that the next time we hear form the club, it doesn't have the same feel as a middle eastern hostage video and goes some way to telling us what changes they plan to introduce as a means of reversing the disappointment of this season. Actions speak louder than words.

We shall see...

I think thats the issue I have with him, He's supposed to be more focused on the overall football department then KWW is yet we hardly hear anything from him in regards to it

Regarding our club president , my personal preference is to have the Smorgon, Gordon style
of greater public exposure.
KWW ìs probably doing a great job, however I would have expected at least some communication to members from the President during the year.
We have heard from Ameet so that is the club's
position on communication to members.
While on topic , the video release by the captain was poor PR.

Alright I have the solution. Bont, Bev, Grant, Baines, KWW all front up, holding hands, and deliver a collective apology in front of the camera. We can cover all bases in one go.

I agree with this and believe one of the main problems at the moment is Chris Grant being in way over his head. The footballing side of things should be Grants domain, not Bevos.
We all love Grant as an icon of the club but i think we need a much stronger personality type in this position [Bevo could possibly be a fit].
Remember Grant presided over the Mcartney era, Griffengate, Taliagate and Stringergate, None of which were resolved very well at all aside from Griffengate when Gordon stepped in.

Agreed. I've heard this been said in the media also.

David Noble would be good.

Not really concerned with who delivered the message but what was said. Basically it was stick with us and we hope to deliver a better 2023.

I would have liked "We are all extremely disappointment and embarrassed to have a fade out like this on top what happened in 2021 GF. We are hurting a lot for letting our supporters down and will make sure we have the fire in our belly to make the the top 4 and challenge for a flag in 2023".

I think Ted Lasso is available right now. Perhaps though, he's a bit too like Bevo himself: very quirky in speech and action, wears his heart on his sleeve, full of moralistic stories and anecdotes and knows little or nothing about the strategies of the sport in which he is employed.
Incidentally, I love 'Ted Lasso'.

The chick in the window ??

No. Actually one of the players helping Cordy. If people don't want to know, that's fine. But I wonder if those outside the player circle at the club are aware so that it can be discussed as part of the review. I can only say I feel sorry for Bont who is the meat in the sandwich - how do you decide where your loyalties lie? The Club or the players? Bont can only lead by example, which he does impeccably. Hopefully it was a one off odd event, but as a paying member, it's just not acceptable during the season. They have plenty of time between Oct and Feb every year to get this out of their system. And imagine if this got out to the media (or social media) - lucky the person who's got the photos is a Doggies supporter and that's why no one knows about it.

So one of Libba or Gardner got completely legless during the season at some point?
All clubs have issues during the season. Look at Melbourne with the May issue a few weeks ago. They’re still playing finals. It’s a crap look but not isolated to us.

If it was Libba and it was this season then I say carry on son. I’ll personally fund his drinking next year if he can maintain that kind of form.

Fair enough. No one GAF. Don't start whinging about reviews of the coaching/club/admin etc etc. The behaviour is disrespect to our captain, for starters. Just saying. I'll leave it there and you can remain blissfully ignorant and blame everything and everyone else for on field sub par performance and decent players like Dunkley wanting out. Bring on the SA comments......
