I've had enough of all of these kents already.

Nothing would satisfy me more right now than drafting H.Reid and watch him kick a bag against the tin-rattlers.

And anyone else wanting to entertain splitting the pick in this massively compromised draft needs to give themselves an uppercut as well.

Who would you take with those picks? 6 will be 8 or 9 and Port will be in the 20s?
My assumption would be that only Walter would get a bid before pick 6.

2. McKercher
7. Curtin or best available mid.

Depending on where the port finishes. But in the early 20's I'd be looking for the sliders, and/ or best available tall.

Sanders maybe.

No way Curtin gets there, it will be almost certainly be pick 9. Caleb Windsor is next best mid available at that pick who is 14 going off Twomey draft so a bit of a reach too. I think our pick 19 and port’s pick will be much of a muchness as both will be in 20s and will be for list need rather than best available in a shallow draft.

So essentially swapping Harley Reid for McKercher and Windsor and a bit of an upgrade with a pick in early 20s instead of mid 20s? Still happy with that?

Not having a crack at your idea, that’s just what is looks like where the picks end up with this horribly compromised draft. The only pick that isn’t compromised this year? Pick 1.

Rogers and Read get bids before pick 6? I seriously doubt that.

Geez would be great to have a contested beast running around in the number 9 at the Eagles next year too... I suspect we’ll also get a few weeks off Demons supporters suggesting their smug arrogant trades for pick 1 whilst they contemplate how to rebuild their ineffectual forward line with their draft hand.

If you still think we should trade Pick 1 after watching Sam Walsh rip Melbourne's mids a new one tonight, please get your heads checked. I'll admit I was on the fence earlier in the year about whether we should keep or trade but watching that Semi makes me believe that Harley needs to be our top priority.

The numbers may change but the players won't. If Curtin slides and Read/Rogers are bid on and matched, Curtin potentially slides to 9.

Nominal pick 7, and I think there is a reasonable chance Curtain gets there (based on the proposed trade scenario plus a couple of others that are looking likely)

Reid - 1
McKercher - 2
GWS @ 3 would be interesting, Duursma maybe
Hawks Watson
WB (after GC trade) - can’t see them going tall, Sanders maybe
Melb - could easily go Caddy

I don’t want to trade #1, but (and this is relevant if we are looking to trade up to another 1st rounder as well) Hawks are pretty keen on Duursma, and Dogs have way too many young talls, so if Curtin slips past the Nth pick/s (compo dependent whether that is just #2 or 2+3) I would be somewhat confident he gets to the Melb pick. Not convinced they would take him either with their fwd issues.

FFS yes!

These, 'well actually pick 4 and 5 become 9 and 10 because of academy picks', gotcha comments are so ****ing stupid.

Pick 2 could end up becoming pick 75 after academies and father-sons and it wouldn't make a bit of difference in who we have access to, if the academy club can match - which they always can.

It's only relevant if the club e.g Gold Coast has a pick ahead of our picks and another club trades for it, or in a points trade.

Free agency compo is of course a completely different story.

It is relevant because in that example you’re drafting the 9th and 10th best kids in the country instead of the 4th and 5th which devalues the pick when compared to a uncompromised draft. I think everyone accepts that the same players are still available.

What draft is uncompromised ? Ashcroft will probably be in contention for pick 1 next year

I get that and my comment wasn't directed at you or anyone in particular.

But the draft is always compromised, it's just a question of degree, and I find it's too often used here to disingenuously shoot down trade scenarios. Especially this year when the trades floated are top ~8 picks, which on current rankings are hardly affected by academy/FS.

Recent ones - yes. And also the ones when GC & GWS came in.

Less so before Academy picks - although thete were some F/S players gifted as 3rd rounders.

The last few years it has been massively compromised.

People point out what the picks are actually worth as opposed to the nominal value because it truly rates what we receive in return for the only significant uncompromised pick in the draft.

Those saying we get pick 2 & 8 (for example) try & dress it up as more than it really is pretending we get the 2nd & 8th best player in the draft - how could you say no to that?!

When you consider the real value of the picks and how many we don't have access to it gives a true assessment of a potential trade - not a fantasy world where we have to only consider what we can access.

2 & 8 sounds so much better to those arguing a pick split than 3 & 11-14 (depending on Saunders/NM as well as where Rogers & Croft fall).

Draft watchers, if North get to prelist a 17 yr old player available in next years draf , would we consider a trade for that 17yr old player and pick 2?

No way Norf should get that, its basically an extra pick 1, clubs complaining about Sanders will be ropeable. Imagine if Norf suddenly get their s#¥t together and make finals next year and have the best rated kid in the draft.

That’s not the point, I was saying that in the sense of using the pick as a baseline reference point. I.e. the value of pick 4 is not as high as it used to be. Using this year it will land the 6th best kid (at best) and as you righty point out 5th best kid next year. So when we think about trading high end picks (1,2,3) what picks you are trading for may look ok on paper number wise, but the lower you go in the draft the more watered down what you are getting back actually is. By most accounts Levi Ashcoft is going to be better than his brother and might well go #1, which might make trading our F1 more enticing. I’m saying we need to look at the players we’ll draft with the picks we receive back, not just the pick numbers themselves which won’t end up representing their actual worth due to the compromised drafts.

Yes absolutely agree with your first point. In regards to your second point using pick 8 as an example, Walter, North compo, Read (and possibly rogers) will drop pick 8 to 11 (or 12) I would have thought dropping 3 or 4 places from 8 would be considered pretty affected? I guess it’s all just a matter of your perspective. What I hope we can all agree on is that pick 1 this is not affected, and we should draft the best kid in the country.

At this stage Jagga Smith is my early pick for next year, closely followed by Draper.

Big watch on Moraes, O'Sullivan.
Josh Smillie could be weapon too the kid is a beast.
However if we take Reid and already having Culley and Ginbey we probably need more the likes of Smith, F O’Sullivan or Draper. Pace and class rather than a brute.

Good batch of promising midfielders looking like being available with early picks, in next years draft (2024).
For where I am anticipating we finish next season, we should be in line to add another impactful midfielder to our list.
