I've had enough of all of these kents already.

Nothing would satisfy me more right now than drafting H.Reid and watch him kick a bag against the tin-rattlers.

And anyone else wanting to entertain splitting the pick in this massively compromised draft needs to give themselves an uppercut as well.

Reid is unlikely to ever be worth more than he is now. Infact he’s probably going to be worth significantly less.

Players have the power to choose where they go, and the receiving club has little incentive to ever pay more than the minimum they can.

And that’s assuming he’s a gun without injury troubles.
If that's the case, I can only assume North don't want him.

Every club want him, very few have the currency to make it happen and even less would throw away consecutive drafts to make it happen.

North doing well out of last years draft means Reid isn't crucial moving forward. They have a damn good young midfield, Reid solidifies it but they could do just as well with another top mid and a kpp instead.

I agree, except old mate is over here telling all us all these reasons we should not take him. He obviously wants him. Not sure why he's talking to us though? He needs to get on the blower to ROB, we're just some guys on a forum talking footy. If they get 2 and 3, McKercher and Curtain compliments their list just fine.

I'll set up a direct line.

No wonder we always get screwed then
I think there is truth to what you are saying around the value of Reid. Right now 3 or 4 Melbourne teams could be after pick 1 and the Eagles can play one off the other. In 3 years times, let say he wants out, the choice could be just 1 club. And while the return might still be better than a pick 1 in points value it probably won't be better than what the offers are before he was drafted.

Exactly. And this isn’t just a Reid thing, it’s the bizzare way players are valued. As soon as they play, top picks drop in value, compared to the outlandish offers pre draft.

Horne-****face is a prefect example.

Let’s pretend that Nick daicos requested a trade to Carlton. Eat case Collingwood gets 2 first rounders and it would be pure luck as to how high they are based on the finishing position of Carlton.

Take Judd, you were exceptionally lucky that he wanted to go to Carlton given they were down the bottom at the time.

Your tin rattling club have, on their own admission, not handled high profile interstate recruits very well. Horn Francis and Thomas are two recent instances.

West Coast are at the bottom and we have a distance to climb back up however our attention to detail and our support for interstate players is regarded as second to none. Our last 2 captains have been interstate first rounders and they both extended while we were going through our 2010 wooden spoon. Did you seen the unity when all the 2021 and 2022 cohort picked up Maric from the airport. It is called team work and cohesion.

I can only assume this blind spot was one of the reasons your club selected Will Phillips over Logan McDonald despite desperately needing a KPF. Your club have chosen players like LDU, Cheezel and Wardlaw who have been afraid to leave home town and prefer the to be with mummy and daddy.

So thanks for your suggestions, I will back our club into retaining Harley.

Lol firstly, you’re projecting. I never made a suggestion. I merely responded to the fanciful suggestion you would ever get more for Reid than right now.

Secondly, JHF used us to get to Port. That was his intention all along and why he didn’t want us to trade pick 1 to the crows.

Thirdly, what has Thomas got to do with anything? He made several mistakes as a grown man after the age of 21. North actually handled him exceptionally well in his inital years keeping him on the straight and narrow, lives with leaders and fitness staff.

Fourthly we have drafted a host of other interstate players, so …….

Why are North posters coming onto here to tell us what West Coast need?
Probably run out of ideas for their own club so figured moving onto others was the next logical step.

And Lastly… why are you even here. Go back to your own board, put the popcorn in the microwave and get ready for footy classified. I’m sure you will get a segment or two to help you feel important

It seems I may be the only one not getting overhyped about Reid, part of me can’t shake off the history of no1 picks ending up not being the best of the bunch, I mean he looks great and all but our supporters seem to be looking at him as a messiah of sorts.

If we pick him up I hope I’m proven wrong but from what I read here it seems basically us never having the number 1 pick and being in very unfamiliar territory atm that we have rated it a lot higher than we normally would and treating it like some sort of golden ticket

As I said I’d love to pick him up and he is an instant gun for us

How is there even an argument about the number 1 pick, it is pretty clear cut. Simple. Can’t believe there’s even a discussion. What needs to happen should happen & it’s the precedent that’s been set. You just know it is. Am I wrong or am I wrong? Do the right thing

Well, hate to be the one who points out the error in your post.

Drew Banfield # 1 pick 1992 draft.... 265 games, 76 goals. :thumbsu:

2 X Premiership player.

Michael Gardiner. # 1 Pick 1996..... 129 games 87 goals.

I don't think the poster was disrespectful or anything coming on here.

Let's not turn into one of those boards that shoos oppo fans away if they want reasonable discussion.

Thank you.

I like this board

Edit: and infact I’ll leave you with this. I heard from a Bendigo family last week, who has a relationship with a person related to the Reid’s that they will all move to Perth. And that’s nothing media related.

Hardly any player is the best player available where they are picked at.

Agree, however.

They don't need to be the best, however if they become an A grader if taken at # 1 ............ it justifies the pick.

Yep, you're going to be happy with Walsh, Rowell etc, not so much with McGrath. #1 is a lot for a half back flanker.
