1. The requirement to bounce the ball every 15m should be removed. What function does this serve exactly? Surely players running with the ball is an exciting aspect of the game that we want to encourage.

2. Get rid of the video review for goals and to make it simpler, if the ball grazes the post and then goes through the goals it is a goal, if it bounces back into play or through the behind posts then it is a behind. It's not 'traditional' but neither is stopping the game on almost every goal kicked because the goal umpires are terrified of making a mistake.

For the life of me I don't understand why players don't just run around the frozen player on the mark. Picture this, a guy marks on the back flank and there's no-one around except the guy on the mark. Why doesn't the guy with the ball just sprint at the guy on the mark in a straight line and then at the last second run around him? The guy on the mark can't move until the umpire calls play on by which the guy with the ball is probably already 10m past him.

I most likely put this down to most AFL players being dumb and not have a high playing IQ and this extends to the coaches that don't think outside the box. But for me, this is pretty logical.

Haven't done this for a while, but i'm bored at home:

14 teams (Fully national) 26 rounds per year

Geelong
Richmond
Carlton
Collingwood
Essendon
Melbourne
Sydney
GWS
Brisbane
Port "Nobodies"
Adelaide
West Coast
Fremantle
Tasmania

Kicking backwards called play on
Soften up the grounds
18-minute QTRS
Last touched free between 50 metre arcs only
Return Goal Umpires to White Coats and hats
Compulsory socks up rule
Ban all White away strips..

That should set the cat among the pigeons..I suppose i could go to 16 and have a 30 Round season? Bring back Dogs and i know the AFL will never give up on the Suns.

100% agree with this except should be play on if it bounces back into play - think they trialled it during pre season at one point? At least the play on if it bounces back in play part.

Makes everything so much simpler and potentially creates some great chaotic moments

Grand final.
Kick after siren.
Scores tied.
Ball hits the post and bounces out.
Extra time, or 1 point win?

Oh good call, i meant Brisbane instead of Gold Coast. Sorry about that, i shall correct it

One assumes Tasmania will be the 'Tasmanian Hawks', or have you simply omitted the most successful club of the modern era from your fantasy future league..?

STOP CHANGING RULES Watch the games on You Tube from 70s 80s 90s early 2000 BEFORE the heaps of rules changes That is Australian Rules Football - not the bastard sport is has become It was Feckn brilliant back then

I want the grand final to be in Perth. At least it looks grand enough to host such an occasion. Also, as much as I am a traditionalist and strongly support a 2:30pm start, i'd be completely fine with a Twilight (EST) grand final this season if it's in WA. 1:40pm bounce in Perth for a 4:40pm bounce in the Eastern states. Game finishes in daylight but channel 7 can get some of their desired 'prime time'.

Hawks are toast altogether, there will be no relocation unless they wish to do away with their history, colours and name! I knew it would be unpopular, it will never happen anyway.

Oh yeah 'unpopular', well omitting the Hawks definitely tick's that box - but most of your other proposals are not really unpopular. Play-on from kicking backwards (outside ones own forward 50 arc) should of been a rule introduced years ago..?

BTW, what is penalty for 'socks down', one warning then free kick, 2nd infringement freekick with 50m..?

Was that after they changed the rules to make it a free kick if you kicked it out on the full? Go further back and watch the games from the 60s where teams just start turning and kicking it deliberately 10 rows back to waste time and tell me what great viewing it is.

The game has always had rule changes to address issues that come up and to make it a better spectacle. I think the current committee overdoes it by kneejerk reactions every year but the game is constantly changing and rules need to reflect that.

The essence of the game had for a very long time been to protect the ball winner and give them more than 0.5 seconds to dispose of the ball or not have it knocked out of their hands before called 'ball' - and not to pile on top of a tackler who is over his opponent which effectively would be pushing the tackler into the ball winners back resulting in the rugby pile on see. The example you gave above is fair enough (though not in the period I was comparing) but the out of bounds rule has gone 180 degrees - the 'insufficient intent' is over-done, most would agree. And my expat colleagues here OS, like me, find the annoying 'STAND' being shouted by the umps loudly every 10 seconds is also another unnecessary rule which has NOT resulted in higher scoring.

So we ruin the spectacle for the fans in Perth?

Should be 4:40pm WST start (6:40pm EST) or even 5:40pm WST

The 2018 prelim against Melbourne was grand cause west coast won, but **** me it was so hot in the sun that day.

Would it be a shared opinion from other Western Australians that they would prefer a later grand final over the traditional timeslot?
