Coaching situation hasn't gone to plan with our 2 preferred coaches having to withdraw due to personal reasons. It must be said that these candidates approach the Club at the start of 2008, which was very encouraging. In saying this, the Club is in the process of speaking to several candidates. Hopefully an announcement can be made soon.
No need to worry about 2010, 2009 will be fine !

The greatest what? Team to put all there money into winning flags and then crumble like a deck of cards when the money runs out?
KA. Go through Gisborne's best team in the last 8 years and then match them up on the best team from Northern United and it would be an interesting task. Match up Ron Best with? Match up Jordan Barham with?
Would be in favour of Northern United I think just because they recruited so many to the club and the quality was on every line.
Thats why I think the comment was made of best ever?

Not sure about the players that played at United but Gis had some very good country footballers in the last 7 years. Houlihan, A James, Reaper, Jordy Barham, Matty Fitz, Elsum all top liners.

I reckon the good teams of the last 15 years would push them but it might get ugly in the last quarter, too many good players. Ron Best was a freak, kicked 14 in his first game as an 18 year old & 11 in his last game (GF) probably kicked 10 bags of 100, only Oliver is close too him. Southcombe played at Carlton won two medals & long way ahead of any ruckman to have played since. Excel kicked 9 against Hawhtorn one day. Each year they had about 4-5 players out of league football. We won't see another team like them because clubs nowadays are too responsible to spend that type of money. Fair to say they are a good example of breaking the bank but as far as a team goes almost unbeatable.
not doubting these players are top line for a minute but the names associated with united were as good. Won 4 in a row 84-87 and lost by 2-3 goals in 88 to Square. No other team has won 4 in a row in the BFL after 1980's and onwards. Eaglehawk have won 5 in a row in 1800's and Sth have won 4 in a row in the early 1900's but not exactly modern footy was it.
Gavin Exell, Ron Best( although played 2 other teams), Tony Southcombe, Geary?? (Joe) were a few I can remember. Others will add a few who I have missed and BFL was at its peak at this time.

Rumour has it that David Antonowicz (ex West Coast Eagles & Western Jets) has been interviewed for the coaching job at Kyneton. He's apparently moving to Gisborne from Wodonga where he's been playing the last few years.
Gerard Geary rings a bell, whatever his name was he was a gun half forward.
Peter Moroni and Gary Mountjoy werent bad out of the guts either.
Ainsly coach was living in Rochy so would of seen his name a bit. Doubt he'd go though

I can now advise all of you that the announcement of the inaugural coach of Strath Storm will be made at 9.15am this Thursday at the Strath Rec Reserve.

Quoted on the GV thread that Clint Whitshead has been approached to coach. Not sure if true, but would be a good get for the strathfieldsaye club.
