Strathfieldsaye (BFNL) played Elmore (HDFL) on Sat - Elmore won by 50 odd points

Dragons have North Ballarat (away), then Birchip (away) and then an intra-club praccy match under lights at the QEO b/c we have about 3-4 night matches in the first 6 rounds
Was told by the strath boys the margin was 2 to 3 goals:confused:

Could someone down there please give me a heads up on a fellow named David Edwards .
He is coaching local team Eastern Swans here in Mackay [Qld.],he said in an interview he had been an assistant to ex. Essondon man Brian Walsh.

Yeah it's true, he spent a some time as AC out at White Hills, depending on the quality of the league but he should kick some goals.
Don't put him in charge of your social functions though, i don't think he's ever been to one in his life!

Best to ask Pinnacle Health about this bloke as i know he'd talk dave up.

I see the AFL not wanting to play under lights however the BFL still force teams to play finals at night even though the lighting is sub standard.

Thanks for that Max,the Swans are a very social club!

Coghlan injury rocks Dragons

13/03/2009 8:35:00 AM Bendigo Advertiser

SANDHURST’S Bendigo Bank Bendigo Football League season is off to a horror start - even before it has started.

Dragons’ star recruit Jon Coghlan will miss the season after injuring his knee - which will require a reconstruction - while representing the BFL All-Stars against the Bendigo Bombers last Monday. Coghlan returned to Sandhurst this year having played 23 senior VFL games for the Bombers in the past two seasons, and loomed as one of the premier midfielders in the BFL.

“It’s shattering for Jon, particularly when you consider it’s going to affect his work, and he’s just a young kid who would have made a big impact for not only us, but on the standard of the league,” Sandhurst coach Keiran Nihill said yesterday. “The footy club will survive, but it’s just devastating for Jon - he was probably our No.1 recruit and to lose him in a game like that just about breaks your heart.

“As a club, we left it totally up to the boys to make the call on whether they wanted to play last Monday or not. “We were supportive of them, whatever they wanted to do, and from Jon’s point of view, I think he looked at it as being an opportunity to have a really good hit-out and set himself up for a big season. “Jon’s training has been first-class and he is really fit, but unfortunately, it was just one of those things that happened that is going to cost him 12 months of football.”
Sandhurst, which will be captained by Sam McGee this year, with Michael Cornish going overseas, will play its first practice match of the pre-season against former BFL club North City at Bungaree this Sunday.

Doc, will Cornish miss the entire season?

Can you also tell us Mark Fitzgerald has shrugged of the injuries he carried in recent years.

Now to Castlemaine supporters.

Why not try and talk CEO Oliver out of retirement. It your 150th year and he could make no better contribution to your club (and the league as a whole) than helping the maine have a real tilt at the finals. It would certainly add a lot of interest to the final five at least. At the moment Kangaroo Flat seems odds on to replace Maryborough and reinforcing a greater Bendigo city dominated competition with the usual exception of Gisborne.

Why would he want to attend a social funtion when there's the likes of you dribbling drunken tripe about how good they supposably played earlier that day!

Apparently he's not intending hovering around the goal square this season, instead looking at imposing his skills in the midfield where he'll gather more possesions than an exorcists!

Mr Health... why would you appoint yourself to the midfield when the game is changing to more handballs? The only time you did it turned into a goal and then you were dirty because it wasn't you that kicked it...

So Strathfieldsaye have entered the BFL in 2009. How do people think they will go? Struggle initially for a few seasons before becoming a power of the league? Big growth area....will be strong at some stage.

Any idea of best players, how recruits went, main goal kickers?

better players were both Millwards, nicholson, b. Filo, threllfall, Milroy, even spread of goalkickrs. None of recruits played but will be unleashed in 2 weeks time againsts rochester!

Thanks bjah. I understand Flat were playing Yarrawonga and most BFNL clubs must be up and running with practice matches. Can anyone else provide similar details as above?

Was watching a cricket game (Spring Gully v Mandurang) yesterday, and Ryan Pedrotti left the field with what appeared to be a hamstring injury.

Maybe the same hamstring that gave him alot of trouble last year.

Eaglehawk defeated Mooroopna

Golden Square defeated Shepparton United

Kangaroo Flat lost to Yarrawonga

Sandhurst defeated North City

Good to see the dragons get a win for a change! have heard that north city will be a fairly strong mob this year so a good sign that they were able to beat them.

any idea who played well and who kicked the goals?

1. It would also be nice to hear from those connected with Kyneton, Maryborough, Castlemaine, Gisborne, South Bendigo on how these teams are going in practice matches.

2. The updating of clearances in/out on the BFNL website is more like monthly than the weekly it is supposed to be. Pretty ordinary!

Gisborne have not played a practice match. They have Sunbury on the 29th of March

The reason nothing is coming out of Kyneton is because I have heard from a reliable source that the BFL board were meeting with the Kyneton committee last Sunday 15/3/2009 to discuss whether Kyneton will be participating in the BFL this year - the BFL board wanted to see signed registration forms from players; at the moment it is believed that they only have between 15-20 players for 2 teams. Not sure about the u/18's.

I hope they can survive because to have a strong vibrant BFL we need stong competitive country clubs.:(

Can someone within the league please advise why the clearances are not updated as they say weekly. With 3 full time staff there should be ample time.
As a follower of football it what be nice to know this information.

Haha!! Yeah he was meant to hanball it back, never again i can assure you that, team play doe's not exist in the forward 50m arc!

To all the players i handed out a team rules manuel and on page 5 it has:
Rule 15. U-turns are not permitted, except for the coach.
Rule 16. Always centre the ball from boundary lines inside the 50m arc, except for the coach.
