Surely L.West wouldn't get anything wrong being the football genius that he is?

Maybe he was still recovering from being an emergency for Castlemaine in the last round of the year........
I am not saying Luke is wrong. However I thought Filo finished up with Flat in 2001 after they were beaten by Square in the preliminary final. We have been advised that he started at Eaglehawk in 2003. My memory about him finishing at Flat in 2001 may be wrong.

To Kangaroo Flat supporters - when did Derrick Filo finish at your club?

well after tonight lets hope that Doug and Anthoney Belcher, start putting words into actions and rebuild Gisborne.............because if they dont they will have the demise of the club squarely on there hands.....Anthoney....lets hope you become the Pres next year...because you have opened your mouth and probably altered the direction of the club. Its time you took over since you care so much and you believe the club is heading in the wrong direction and the committee dont know what there doing in your eyes. Good luck son and lets hope you do a better job than your father did. To all the other players and supporters....dont let a group of soon to be retired players alter the correct course for the clubs future and dont let these players egos rule the future direction of the club. Vote Ballarat and do the right thing for the club....and as Mr Belcher and son need to remember the club is bigger than the individual
Anthony belcher is right up there with the biggest w***ers you will ever meet. One of the most arrogant people you would ever meet , how could a club put such a feeble minded pin dick as captain is beyond me.

Interesting Fact that since 1997, Every club(strathfieldsaye excluded) have played in a Grand Final except 1. Who can name the team?

I was told from a good source GM that you were not even there! how do you know all of this stuff?? Do you have a spy working there?? and if you weren't there why not if you support the club so much?

some observations from last night. the ballarat league seem to be very well run and cashed up. the bendigo league are not cashed up anywhere near the ballarat league and they were very honest. cant promise us anything where as ballarat are promising the world.

a bit of thinking to be done by all before the vote.

Obviously you don't know Belch at all. One of the best blokes to have round the club is a good leader on and off the field, and knows how to liven up the joint with a joke or two.

Now nick off and worry about your own club you dill pot.

Derrick finished up with the flat at the end of the 2002 season.

The GREENMAN has eyes and ears everywhere, true wasnt there but heard all if you read between the lines. Makes me sick to think a group of soon to be retired players are able to override the wishes of the committee they elected. And I hope all there could see through that bs that Drummy put fwd.......hes just being a politition....spinng bs.thats what he does for a living folks and he worked the Gis crowd perfectly........but there was no substance to anything he said..............it comes down to facts and figures......... and they cant be denyed. He spoke just like he would in parliment. Money folks is what makes clubs tick and Gis need it, crowds generate atmosphere and generate cash flow and Gis need that......less travel etc. This move is not for the current day players ,its done for the future of the club, for the Rookies who as a committee have backed the ballarat move, for local business to sponsor.better dollars and exposure for a Gis v Sun game than between a Gis V Sandhurst game. Put emotion aside......the current players are worried about there reputions..........boys you will always be BFL champions, but the next generation need the opportunities you had......and the clubs responsibilty is to PROVIDE THE BEST OPPORTUNITY FOR ALL GIS PLAYERS TO PLAY AT THE HIGHEST LEVEL POSSIBLE.....and that Ballarat VCFL dIV 1

some very valid points regards the money and drummy did come accross like a politician. fact is ballarat looks like a win win for gizzy in regard to money. if gisborne dont go now i wonder would ballarat offer the same deal in years to come should we stay in bendigo and we could end up going broke. sincerely hope that is not the case and the club stays united

It is South Max i reckon I remember reading an article from the Talking Goat in the Addy sometime over the last year or 2 that mentioned that fact

Yep spot on, well done to the blokes who got it right.

Do you think they'd be a bit of pressure on the South boys this week? sonsidering they have made the prelim 5-6 times over the last 10 years without getting into the big one?

Bulldogs players desperate to stay in Bendigo Football League

10/09/2009 8:31:00 AM Bendigo Advertiser
WITH Gisborne members to next week vote on where the club will play next year, six of the Bulldogs’ senior players who have been integral in the club’s Bendigo Football League success say they are happy where they are.

Gisborne will next Tuesday vote on a move to either stay in the Bendigo Football League - where the Bulldogs have played since 2000 - or join the Ballarat Football League next year as its 12th club.
The Gisborne committee has already voted in favour of joining the Ballarat league next year; however, such a move would need the support of the Bulldogs’ members, many of whom are players.
While the majority of the committee last month voted in favour of a move to Ballarat, one member opposed was coach Ty Elliott, who has had a tough initiation as senior coach this year, with the shadow of uncertainty hanging over the club since Ballarat announced on May 30 its intention to try to lure Gisborne.
“It has been three years since we last won a premiership in the Bendigo Football League, and clubs have obviously taken some enjoyment this year in beating us,” Elliott told The Advertiser yesterday.
“We’re certainly not a dominant force and it would be just nice to rebuild and win a premiership again in the Bendigo Football League.”
Gisborne was addressed by officials from both the Bendigo and Ballarat football leagues on Tuesday night, with both parties giving a 10-minute presentation.
As part of the information night, Gisborne captain Anthony Belcher spoke passionately of his desire for the club to remain a member of the Bendigo league in 2010 and beyond.
“The main point I tried to make was, why go?” Belcher said.
“Ballarat is trying to promote the fact of better rivalries, less travel and other financial gains.
“But I basically said if we need another $40,000 per year that Ballarat is offering, there’s other ways we can go about getting it.
“It’s obviously going to take a lot of work, but I would rather see that happen . . .
“We’ve got rivalries with clubs in the Bendigo league, having been here for 10 years now, and I just don’t see any point in leaving.
“With the freeway the way it is now, it’s just a short drive up to Bendigo, so travel is no factor.”
Also keen for the Bulldogs to remain is Luke Saunders, one of the most revered players in the Bendigo league.
Saunders is not only a dual Gisborne premiership captain, but won the 2005 Michelsen Medal and captained the BFL to its Pool C inter-league title in 2006.
“Initially, when we came to the Bendigo league (from the Riddell District Football League) we were looking to go to a better standard,” Saunders said.
“It was a challenge for us to go to that next standard, and at the moment we still have those challenges.
“I don’t think going to the Ballarat league is necessarily a greater challenge, and with the way we’re at at the moment, we can’t afford to change leagues.
“The Bendigo league has been great for us and I think the feeling is mutual . . . we respect the league, and the league respects us.
“I’ve had eight or nine years playing here and we’ve got some great rivalries, and along with that comes good friendships.
“I’ve made a lot of good friends through the Bendigo football community and it’s something I don’t want to change.”
Rod Sharp has played more than 200 senior games for Gisborne and believes “if it isn’t broke, why fix it”.
“There’s no doubt that we went into the Bendigo league 10 years ago to challenge us,” Sharp said.
“Getting Mick McGuane as coach (in 2002) was able to help set up a successful decade for us.
“We’ve had 10 years in this league now and we don’t want to be seen as a club that just jumps around from league to league.”
One of the leading contenders for this Sunday’s Michelsen Medal is Bulldogs hard-nut Ollie Messaoudi, who was captain of the Bendigo team that defeated Ballarat in their inter-league clash at Bacchus Marsh in May.
“I don’t really see the point in switching leagues unless you’re going to a better competition, or you’re not good enough any more for the competition you are in,” Messaoudi said.
“With the financial benefits Ballarat say we will get, they obviously want us to go there, so they are going to gloss it up as much as they can.
“One of the things said last night was a move to Ballarat would rekindle rivalries with the likes of (former RDFL clubs) Sunbury and Melton, but I wasn’t part of that with Gisborne back in those days.
“We’ve now got our own rivalries now with the likes of Golden Square and Eaglehawk.”
Also strong on Gisborne remaining in the Bendigo league was Bulldogs veteran Matt McKenzie.
“We’ve set up a couple of good rivalries within the Bendigo league, we know what we need to be competitive in this league, whereas we would be going into Ballarat blind,” McKenzie said.
“Basically, I don’t have any problems with the Bendigo Football League.
“With the Ballarat Football League, my personal opinion is it’s going into the unknown, but you also have things like the conditions you would be playing in there.
“And what happens after 10 years in the Ballarat league, do we then look to move on somewhere else?
“Ten years ago when we came into Bendigo, it was to play at a higher standard, but we wouldn’t be going to Ballarat to play in a higher standard.”
Elliott, Belcher, Saunders, Sharp, Messaoudi and McKenzie are all members of the recently-named Gisborne Team of the Decade, and have played in a combined 17 Bendigo Football League premierships for the Bulldogs. Next week’s vote will take place just four days before the Gisborne reserves play in the grand final.

Never said they will fall in a heap - please don't put words in my mouth. The BenFL will be weakened however.

As for rivalry with Eaglehawk and GS that line has to get an epic FAIL. They may love to beat Gissy but end of the day Gissy don't care about these sides. Fail.

Hmmm seems as Ollie And Lukey Saunders might disagree according to the addy.

Made you look a bit Silly hasn't it Kings Army.

A big Well done to these players, hopefully Gissy stay and continue to be strong.

If Gisborne is cleared to the Ballarat League and I was involved with the Kyneton football club I know where I would be looking to recruit from for the 2010 season.

My opening line would be 'Boys, stay in the Bendigo League, avoid the muddy grounds/cold weather of Ballarat, etc etc'.

You must be in the know down that way albury, my mail suggests a few players might wander that way for exactly those reasons and remain Bendigo FL players
