Would just like to see some peoples opinion on what the Brisbane Lions greatest match ever has been.

I would personally go with the 2003 GF, belting the Pies in the GF in consecutively is always good :thumbsu:

Aside finals, a few of mine would be:

vs Ess Rd 10 2001, if it bleeds game

vs WCE Rd 14 2007, the major upset at Subiaco to break a 7 game non-winning streak

vs Coll Rd 17 2007, a record 93 point drubbing of Collingwood at the G

vs PA Rd 4 2008, miracle 47 point come from behind win in the wet, at AAMI

2003 against Collingwood in our Fitzroy jumper.

2003 (I think) against North Melbourne when Vossy kicked a point just as the siren went to draw the game.

2007 Brownies 10 goals against Carlton.

2007 smashing Collingwood by 93 points (never seen opposition supporters so horrified in my life :D)

2008 Port Adelaide in the wet.

2009 Elimination Final vs Carlton. Say no more, say no more.

I'm with the OP. 2003 Grand Final was a magnificent against-the-odds triumph. The preceding week in Sydney was very :thumbsu: as well under similar circumstances. Ash's looong bouncing goal in that game remains one of my very favourites.

Merry Xmas to the Brisbane Board.:):D

Even as Collingwood supporter, I would have to say the 03 Grand Final stands out as the "greatest single performance" by the Brisbane Football Club.

You just tore us apart, from the opening bounce onwards, it was actually "awesome football", even if I and my fellow Collingwood supporters found it hard to admire at the time.

Easily the standout game in the history of your club.:thumbsu:

The games which stand out in my mind are:

Rd 10, 2001 vs Essendon, the predator game, just loved the way our boys set about their tasks.

Rd 22 2002 vs Port Adelaide
, even though we didnt win, it showed our team's never give up attitude

GF 2003 vs Collingwood - Was praying for a win before the game and wasnt my prayers answered in spectacularly dominant way?

Rd 14 2007 vs West Coast - nobody gave us a chance and we beat the premiers on their won turf playing their stars.

Rd 4 2008 vs Port Adelaide - what a comeback by us against the odds.

Rd 21 2009 vs Port Adelaide - Very much rode every goal in the final term, what a comeback by us..but there was more..

EF 2009 vs Carlton - I always knew a comeback was coming cause we have been doing that throughout the yr and a habit like that is hard to get rid off, it was just a matter of when - the Gabba went crazy that night!

My vote goes to the 2001 GF :thumbsu:

For sheer backs to the wall grit I vote for the 2004 prelim against Geelong :( > great win that probably cost us a 4th straight flag though

How can you go past the first flag? Dons as favourites. 20 points down 5 minutes to half time & Lynch goals. 10 minutes to go & Voss seals it & runs the pocket with the finger up. A flag. Something I feared I would never see in my time when I started following the Bears. Ther have been other great moments, but nothing beats the first.

In terms of what it help lead to, it is hard to go past the 2001 'if it bleeds' game vs. Essendon at the GABBA.

But at the end of the day the 2001 Grand Final was the icing and the cake. No greater feeling than watching the Lions win a Premiership. The 2002 and 2003 Grand Finals made our team one of the greatest of all time, with 2003 a particularly joyful experience being up so far for such a long period of the game.

Another overlooked gem is Rnd 18, 2002 vs Essendon.

Sheedy declared that he would be instructing his players to play as if there were "no rules", and the game immediately became known as the "No Rules Match".

The "No Rules" decree suited the Lions players to a tee, and they came to give as good as they got.

An absolute belter of a performance by Brisbane, and along with Rnd 1, 2005, I believe it is the perfect showcase for why we were so feared as a team. Absolute commitment to the man and ball.

Just a rip snorting display of aggression football... Voss irons out Damien Peverill on two seperate occassions with some of the hardest hits of his career (and he laid a few).

Crowd are whipped into an absolute frenzy by the on-field display and some Essendon nuff-nuff hits Chris Johnson with a bottle.

Lions win comfortably by the way. Des Headland was in the form of his career at this stage and his BOG in this game shows just how talented he could be when he wanted to be (with help from teammates).

That picture of Voss hangs proudly in my home. Best single moment I have ever had at the footy.

This was a cracker. I flew down on the same plane as most of the players, and as we waited for our bags, a few journo's asked Mal what he thought of the no rules. He just smiled. I kinda got the feeling we were in for a belter of a game.

Funnily, I think it was Caracella who kicked the last goal of the game for Essendon. I was secretly praying for him to slot the goal, as I was alive in the Quarter Quad. I felt dirty, but about $250 richer:eek:

BTW, Des who??????:D

Another interesting sidenote to this game was that former Brisbane Broncos coach Wayne Bennett was sitting in the Lions coaches box.

Leigh reciprocated the following week (or prior week) by sitting in the Broncos coaches box.

Good memory.

I remember now that I went to watch the Bronco's play the Storm on the Saturday afternoon. After the Lions game a mate and I went to the Casino and watched a replay of a Bledisloe game played that night and shared a table with Lote Turquri and Chris Walker who was with his girlfriend from Home and Away. One had just signed with the ARU and the other Souths. Made for an interesting evening.

Gee...Remember Browny smacking down Johnson? :D

I think beating Collingwood in the last ever Victoria Park game in 1999 is worth an honourable mention. It was such a historic game for that club and it's always good to shove it up their supporters. Also besides the GF wins, all of the come from behind wins are a fav, particularly the EF from this year. Simply Awesome.

Yessir, I am on your page.

If we are going archives 1 of my faves is that 1st semi in '95. Lost to Carltank, but the only team that pushed them for the whole finals series. And the Rog leaping the pack to take a screamer in the dying stages. Vale, big men. Way to go out.

That was the night we finally got some respect as a football club.
