What's the issue with Majak?

AND???

What happens if there is a sudden spike of 'gradual improvement' to play out a full game ? ... are you gonna be the first to admit you WERE WRONG??? o_O

Nice to know that the Richmond fans doubting his potential are STILL bleeding from the CHOKE NAB LOSS.. :p
When did I say I doubted his potential? When did I even indicate I doubted his potential? I really don't know why you are trolling the thread. This is not Bay 13. Also Hawthorn fan not Richmond.

The reason why I said he will be vested BTW is because Daw at the moment has little defensive side to his game (still very much learning). Should he play a full game most teams would take advantage of that and Daw will end up costing the team more then what he will bring. A few flashes of brilliance is not worth costing a team 3 or more goals. Give Daw another solid year in the VFL and his 2 or 3 games in the AFL this season and judge him next year.

The AFL isn't the same league you thought it was.. it keeps on evolving.. I didn't doubt he'd be vested.. just added the 'AND' ... then stuck it to the RICHMOND faithful who dared pipe up.. just that you can never tell what improvements / 'X' factor these bigger athletic stature types can give. Your follow up is more reasonable :thumbsu: and quite what many believe is likely but in saying that 'what becomes of his SENIOR level experience' is the real topic of discussion. Richmond had a #1 pick back in the day that was destined to rip the game apart according to their faithful (read: RICHARD LOUNDER) but ended up being a colossal BUST. :D ;)

With Daw... North put it out from the get go that he was a 'project' player. He has come a long way (figuratively) and was never a given to make the strides that he has so far. Most AFL players are not as skilful under the pressure as it is so expecting Daw to jump into the TOP 200 is just not gonna happen anytime soon but from 2014 onwards.. it'll clearly be his 'now or never' period while taking the baby steps to develop his reading/ skill set for such a BEAST of a unit. Nothing promised and nothing expected. Project players can also be 'X'' factor if you consider what they have above most... this guy has STRENGTH and hopefully experience at the higher level will bring out some football nous that only comes with experience.

Give the kid a break and see what happens.. North have a mature aged American guy named Eric Wallace who hails from North Carolina (197cm / 102 kg) / former US College basketballer who is also a project player. Like anything... you just can't write 'em off anyone until you know they've had an opportunity to play and failed dismally.

Hey Silent Alarm ... any luck with that Instagram feed North has been relentlessly pumping Majak on?

Majak Daw would be one of the only big blokes that the sub rule may actually suit, as he's not going to get a massive amount of the footy early days, possibly even throughout his career.

He could come on and do some things that could turn the game, or North may get an injury early on, which means he will be relied upon, to play almost an entire game, and having an impact.

Can he do the latter? I think he can, but not this year.

It's all well and good to have a specialist sub, but as most North fans would know, whenever Matt Campbell played a full game, or close to, he was inconsistent & had little to no impact.

But as a sub, coming on at 3 qtr time, he had an immediate impact almost every time.

I see a lot of Sudanese kids round where I live playing soccer, some of whom who are both tall and athletic. If Daws profile gets those kids into footy ill be very happy. So personally I wish NM would wheel him out more, BigFooty libertarians be damned.

In North Melbourne and the inner west, they are huge in footy.

Majak will be the first to play seniors but far from the last.

In 20 years time I'd expect to see a good number of Australians of Sudanese/other African descent playing footy. Double figures.

Well he spent 2 years on the Western Jets main list didn't he?

That is normal amount you spend on such a list.

Didn't Caolan Mooney play 6 games of football before he played his first AFL game last season?

Daw says the fact that he has played only 70 Australian football matches in his life meant he had plenty to catch up on his rivals, many of whom had played the game all their lives.
"I played my 50th game in the juniors just before I turned 18, and most of the guys had a laugh at that because some of them had played 200," he said.

Consider Trent McKenzie also was in that Jets squad. How much footy over his life do you reckon he played?
Also, Mooney played a huge amount of Gaelic.

Give it up Gus.

And Hansen. Tarrant and Hansen are much maligned but they ended up kicking a lot of goals in the back half of last year.

Not so many against WC in the final but yes, a lot against back lines the ilk of GWS, GC, Melbourne & co.

Maj would be in the best 22 for quite a few AFL sides atm. Unfortunately for him, we had a very effective setup during the back half of last season.

Opposition/Hansen/Tarrant

Adelaide: 1, 4
St Kilda: 3, 1
West Coast: 1, 4
Carlton: 4, 1
Richmond: 1, 0
Melbourne: 0, 4
Dogs: 1, 3
Essendon: 3, 3
Collingwood: 2, 3
Freo: 3, 0
GWS: Hansen KO'd in the early mins.
WCE: 1, 0

The only failures were the EF and vs Richmond (Petrie bagged 7).

42 goals from 11 games from your developing KPF's is a great result. Especially when you consider that under the setup Petrie managed 33 from those same 11 games.

Yeah back teams like:

Geelong - Ziebell, Basti Edwards 4 goals - PETRIE 0
Adelaide - Tarrant 4, Adams, Thomas 3, Basti 2 - PETRIE 0
Essendon - Tarrant 4, Harvey, Hansen 3 - PETRIE 0
Collingwood - Tarrant 3 - PETRIE 3

2012
Sydney - PA - 1629 - (least points conceded) - Petrie - 1 goal, Hansen & Tarrant didn't play.
Fremantle - PA - 1691 (2nd least points conceded) - Petrie 0 goals, Tarrant 0 goals, Hansen 3 goals.
Hawthorn - PA - 1733 (3rd least points conceded) - Petrie 1 goal, Hansen & Tarrant didn't play.
WC - PA - 1807 (4th least points conceded) - Petrie 1 goal, Tarrant 0 goals & Hansen didn't play.
Return game (Elimination Final) - Petrie 1 goal, Tarrant 0 goals, Hansen 1 goal.

I don't know why you put Essendon in there, they conceded over 2000 points in 2012, a very leaky defence.
I included Essendon because it was an 8 point game and it wasn't Petrie that won it for us.

Sydney proves nothing as the other 2 didn't play , same for Hawks.

Freo proves my point.

Both Eagles games @WC our forwards were strangled and no one scored heavily.

Your call was Tarrant and Hansen only performed against the Gc, GWS Demons type teams. I proved you wrong. Tarrant has infact performed better against the stronger teams.

So in only two of those games we actually had the three pronged set up which is what brought the best results. Good angle.

Agreed!

We seem to higly overrate this duo IMO, they would struggle in most teams.

No we don't highly overrate them at all.

Hansen didn't kick a goal against GWS or Melbourne and didn't play in either game against the GC. He did however kick 3 against St Kilda, 3 against Essendon after being knocked out, 2 against the Pies and 3 against Fremantle.

Tarrant didn't kick a goal in either of his games against GC, didn't score against GWS and kicked 4 against Melbourne. He did however kick 4 against West Coast in Hobart, 4 against the Crows, and 3 against Collingwood.

I thought he was just solidifying my point? no

I think the club's most important game in 2012 gives a good angle of how well they truly performed.

Then every team except the Swans had a bad year. In the Hawks most important game they lost. In the Crows most important game they lost etc.
