Of all the players that you have ever watched while supporting the Pies, which is the one you miss the most?

If you could pick one player to return to the current team, who would it be and why?

What is your favourite memory of that player?

For me, it has got to be Jimmy Clement. I loved his composure, his ability to take a defensive mark, and his 60m pin point pass. He was such a steadying influence on the side. I would love to see that one day again in this current side. His game would translate very nicely to the one we see today. I can't say I have a favourite moment in mind but he'd be my pick.

For what its worth, from watching the VFL this year our #17 reminds me very much of Jimmy in the way he moves, marks and has a defensive surety. He lacks the raking boot, but he is every bit as incisive with his straight line speed. Interesting times.

The Macedonian Marvel ..... Daics, ..... Even in the dark days in the mid 80's he was just so sublime to watch. I remember going to Victoria Park and Daicos was into his second or third season and my brother said to me " just watch this guy number 35 when he gets the ball. I did and he waeaved his way through heavy traffic and drilled it from 50 out on the run.... Just wow

Daicos for me..........No Collingwood player comes close to what he could do on the field.

Apologies to Millane I still remember Anderson (Essendon) pooing his "pants" every time he lined up on him on the wing. One word to describe him was "Prescence" he had it in spades!

Great thread Quicky.

I'm hopping De Goey can be like Bucks and Scharenberg be like Clement.

Is that too much to ask?

Daicos.......easily.

Just so I could enjoy watching him play again and experience the thrill of waiting for the supernatural to happen at any second. Plus the crowd anticipation whenever he was near......shivers

I was very young and can't remember too much of Daicos but he was still my first footy hero. I used to watch and rewatch some old beta max videos with his footage and replays, and then run around with a ball pretending to dribble goals like Daics.

Maybe we need to open the floor to our second favourites too?

Greening. Two reasons: 1. So that everyone could see just how good he was...and Jimmy O'Dea would be a distant memory
2. Because he would make today's "superstars" look second rate.

Daicos! Milane second. Daics first goal in 1990 Grand Final was something special to see live. He turned faster than I've ever seen anyone and just dropped his opponent then drilled a drop punt straight through from the boundary.

Hi Quicky just to put him in perspective he was 184cm an he kicked over 90 goals in a Premiership year.

I was too young also to see him when was an onballer but I can totally understand how good he was before injuries.

Let me try and paint a picture.....Stevey J,Clement,Pendelbery,Mitchell & Ablett rolled into one!

Just to explain the Clement comparison for you........two step 55 metre torpedoes on a regular basis!

Daicos, just so clean, never fumbled, impossible to beat one on one, and kicked goals from everywhere, despite the fact i am Collingwood, this man does not get the recognition he deserves.
Records and achievement is one thing when judging players, but watching somebody just totally master every aspect of the game, and be a picture of beauty in the way they play is on another level, and Daicos was on that level.

I was heartbroken as a child when Sav left but for me it's a tie between Leon and Andrew Krakouer. Leon because I felt like he still had a lot left (can anyone recall any other players retiring/not getting re-signed after an AA year?) and had formed a strong emotional connection to the various obstacles and challenges he had endured throughout his career. He had so much natural talent and I loved his defensive game - his goal of the year against Freo in Perth where he ran someone down after 3 or 4 efforts then slotted the goal from 50 is one of my favorite Collingwood moments.
Krakouer because I just adored watching him play - incredible footwork and evasiveness and an amazing goal sense. Either one in their final year of AFL would be a huge help to the current side.

When Pendles retires it will be him and I may have to take a break from watching football when that day inevitably comes.
