This is one for you older guys. Being born in 1989 I have never seen a Tiges premiership. In fact the best Tigers team I've ever seen was in 2001 (can't remember 95). That's pretty sad really and I just want to know which of our premierships (that you saw) was the best. Or were we better in 72 or 82. Just want to know the best Tigers team you've seen.

Edit: Oh and by best I mean which were we better side in, not which one you enjoyed the most.

I wasn't alive for any either. The old man would say 80, but I would guess that's because a) he was there, and b) it was the first (and only so far) premiership we won since he got right into footy.

Oh and the best Richmond side I've seen is our current one.

all i know is that 1 of the umps in that game suddenly could afford to extend his house after having put it off for years as to expensive
Get over it, we lost by about 5 goals, Walls had a once-in-a-lifetime game with his 6 (or whatever he kicked), and it wasn't close enough for the umps to make a difference.
If you're so sure you're right, bring it to the AFL. Sue them. I'm sure we could do with a bit more Carlton cheating stuff!
Bring up 1910, too. They're the original and the best cheaters.

I can just remember 1980. (God, does that make me an oldie?? But I'm so young and handsome!) That and the 1982 side were great teams. Talk about midfield: Raines, Rioli, Weightman, Wiley, Wood, Rowlings, Welsh, and a forward line containing Roach, Cloke and Bartlett, with no room for Brian Taylor, but according to my old man the 73/74 sides were awesome. They were never out of a game, even if 5 goals down at 3/4 time. Royce Hart on one leg came off the bench to win us the 73 prelim, but being a key position player, wasn't that important (woops, wrong thread).;)

1967, coming out of the wilderness, so much like now, I hope it continues.
1973 - revenge on Carlton - thank you Laurie Fowler
1974 - back to back
1980 - smacked the pies

All terrific wins, but ‘73 was the best. After what happened in ‘72, ‘73 was one of the best wins (put aside the fact that it was a GF) this club has seen.

Then came the semi in ’95, and that is another story.

God I love Richmond.

The '67-'80 premierships are available on dvd.

My fav and the best team imo is the 1980, although we "stole" the '67 Premiership from Geelong that year which made it sweet. :thumbsu:

I asked the old man about this one as i havent had the pleasure of seeing one and he couldnt split 67 and 73. He said 67 because it was the drought breaker and was such a high quality game but he got more pleasure watching us get revenge on Carltank. He reckons we should easily have won 3 in a row 72-74.

Can remember 1973 and 74 vividly. the '73 game was good for revenge but for mine, the '74 game really showed what Hafey play on style football was all about. It was about as good as the tigers have played in a Grand Final (1980 was good too, but the opposition was shite that day).
The game often gets overlooked in football marathons because they skip to '75 and the Roos first ever premiership.
The '67 was one of the best overall Grand Finals as a spectacle and was only surpassed as a game in 1989. I can only make comments from watching the tapes of it but I was only five at the time, so I cannot remember it directly.
So to answer which premiership was best, I would have to say depends on your criteria. All are good as they are so precious and rare. But here goes for a classification:
For overall game : 1967
For great game style: 1974
For revenge/biffo: 1973
For coming from nowhere: 1969
For a thrashing: 1980

Can't wait for the next one!

Although 1980 was great to see us beat the maggots by so much, 1967 was my favourite. I went to the game and it was so emotional after the long drought between premierships, not to mention a close, great game. The style of footy might have been slower and less spectacular than today IMO, but the excitement of the moment was like any other of today.

To describe what it was like. Well, it was like it would be if we won a premiership today. So many people never seen us win one and followed us all these years. That's how it was in 1967.
