AFLW 2024 - Round 9 - Indigenous Round - Chat, game threads, injury lists, team lineups and more.
North really is just Sheezel or bust at this point. He was hampered by injury and they got completely run over by a trash West Coast.
I think it's fair to say Hawthorn and Adelaide have graduated out of this thread after two solid seasons.
Should replace Hawthorn and Adelaide with Richmond and West Coast.
I'd have North ahead on that count although they did start their rebuild five years earlier.
What a moronic comment.
Who stepped up for Sheezel on one leg for half a game? The poor bloke laid 7 tackles himself. The only bloke on the field who has the right idea of not kicking it directly to McGovern every chance he has the ball.
LDU, Simpkin and Powell had 5 tackles between them.
He's a generational talent and he needs help. Another year of what is likely going to be sub-4 wins and a percentage in the 60s (which will be a regression based on 2023).
When are things going to change at North?
The bloke that had 30 disposals, 12 tackles and 13 clearances and the 2nd best performance of anyone this round?
Don’t back track on the comment.
Sheezel is the 3rd highest rated player at North this season, so by definition it’s not him or bust.
Xerri's been great. Probably gets the AA spot if the selectors had brains. Still think his tap work needs improving but he's improved out of sight so I won't put it past him to refine further. I don't think having your ruckman getting the ball 30 times and 13 clearances is ideal though. I'd much prefer that distributed to ideally your better, more skillful players (usually your midfielders).
If games and premierships are won off player ratings you would think North would have a competent playing list capable of winning more than 3 games a season by now. It wasn't that long ago you had the 'data guru' Glen Luff as your list manager.
Nice deflection.
He’s been good but I agree, I prefer other rucks who are better at tap work, same reason I don’t rate Rowan Marshall all that highly.Xerri's been great. Ahh yes that 2% to advantage difference is totally better than 6-7 tackles a game, a mountain of clearances and disposals.
What's there to deflect?
Which other midfielder stood up against the power house that is the West Coast Eagles at your home ground? Who was defensively responsible for Yeo who kicked two goals in the last quarter?
Huh? I’m just saying as a player I don’t rate either Marshall or Xerri highly comparatively to others? In due course to their tap work being average.Ahh yes that 2% to advantage difference is totally better than 6-7 tackles a game and a mountain of clearances and disposals and general physical impact around the contest.

I'm bullish on North for 2025.
I also think the round 2024 clash against them in Tassie poses more of a threat than some may like to admit.
I think it's unlikely North will win, but I do think Clarko will get the team up to potentially spoil a fairytale finals story for our mob.
I think all 3 clubs are trending in the right direction.
The crows need to retire Tex and let the next generation take over. 2025 should be finals.
Hawks will top up the defensive stocks and should have a good crack at finals again in 2025.
North should be pushing to get out of the bottom 4 next year. I could see them finishing above West Coast and Richmond.
Only if we aren’t being resultist. All 3 teams have some serious elite kids coming through. I don't think there is a correct answer.
His hitouts winrate and overall numbers are good 34 hitouts (43%) but 25% for HTA is poor. You can't justify that though can you? You bust out stats to suit yourself when needed but ignore it the other way.
Xerri has a 25% to advantage rate and a 43% hitout win rate.
It's only just behind someone like Gawn.
Marshall has a 36% win rate and averages 26 hitouts a game.
North is also one of the best clearance teams in the comp, so how does that work exactly?
Yep agree. We need to start rising up the ladder and quickly. I thought 6-7 wins was fair for this year. The way we are going hanging around the bottom 2 each year, we’ll end up having a starting 18 full of top end draft picks that can’t win. If 2025 ends up being like this year, then it’s time to pack us up, the supporters are getting really tired of losing each week.Carlton are the unfortunate cautionary tale as to the merits of stocking young talent without attempting to instill any sort of culture of winning inside the four walls of a football club.
I see so many unfortunate similarities between them and this young Roos team as it stands.
North will prob get an amazing young mid with pick 1 or 2 this year. They’ll be (rightfully) excited about the promise of their young midfield.
But it means nothing if they don’t start winning. Guys like Cripps, Kruezer, Weitering, Murphy and Walsh have/had just as much talent and promise as Wardlaw, Sheezel and others, but perennial losing has left an indelible mark on their career and their prospects of winning silverware in the future.
North need a minimum of 6-8 wins next year, otherwise the cycle will only repeat itself.
It’s a little crazy to think that despite the improvement you’ve had from a number of younger players you guys are still looking at having the same amount of wins and a worse percentage compared to last year.Yep agree.
