I just binged both seasons of Shrinking in a week and as much as I love the show it was a bit of a push to get to the end, maybe comedy is less bingeable?
We haven't gone back after the first season. Now I think about it I can't recall finishing the first season. Just didn't get hooked.

I was a bit let down with Masters of Air; probably expected more combat scenes

It’s the Godfather 3 to Band of Brothers and The Pacific.

Got myself a free 3 month trial of Apple. Currently watching For All Mankind. It's great, I'm loving it so far.

Main goal is to get through all of For All Mankind, already watched Monarch Legacy of Monsters and Masters of the Air. Might give Silo a go if I finish FAM before the trial runs out and I cancel it.

Severence is a massive favourite of mine on Apple. The second season is about to start as well. Starts a little slow, is slightly weird, but is really great.

I was hoping it would slot into the BOB universe seamlessly but alas I still prefer HBOs Generation Kill as spiritual successor to the franchise.

I haven’t watched that one but everything I have read about it points to I should.

during the leftovers silly season I saw the following before they left iView, would definitely recommend to fans of quality period queer British content:

The Line of Beauty
Tipping the Velvet
(both 4/5)

finally started Total Control and really liked the first season, one of those very recommendable recent ABC dramas. One flaw might be the amount of narrative time devoted to running around after the elusive escaped detainee contact, but as symbolism for the toil and tact of scooping a source and political bill negotiations and the like I could accept that (as well as being useful structurally, like giving staff things to do whilst away in Winton). Definitely keen to push on for S2-3. As someone forever fond of Canberra I also tend to enjoy shows set and filmed there, spotting streets and bars and restaurants and the like.

also finishing off Love/Hate (S4-5). Got through S1-3 a long while back. S4 had the dentist, the bombmaker Patrick, Barry Keoghan & detective Brian O'Byrne, and Tommy with the brain injury. No dip in quality, indeed S1 was the least impressive, it has matured nicely through its run. Leaning more into Nidge and Fran throughout its run has generally served it well.

Love/Hate is magnificent. One of the best gangster shows ever made, and Nidge and Fran are a couple of the greatest characters ever written.

it seemed like it would make for a fine read indeed, very literary

Andrew Davies adapted both of those, which probably helped a lot
I got round to reading the new Armistead Maupin over Christmas and think it's probably the best of the new Tales books.

I’ll have to give those a go, look like something I’d enjoy 👍

over Chrissy I read Patrick McGrath’s Spider, currently on DeLillo’s Libra. Still got Villette left from my Bronte set last Chrissy, might be my next.

If you've never read them you're in for treat. The first book was originally published as a weekly column in the San Francisco Chronicle.

the opening scene of S4 with the two young fellas it felt like we might be heading into Wire S4 territory. Liked how unpredictable some of that season was.

Five seasons is about right though, probably finished up just at the right time, you can feel everything catching up with and bearing down on Nidge, how will he get out of this one? Still three eps to go so no finale spoilers just yet lol, but Tommy just lying dormant feels liable to be the endgame reckoning to me.
