Who DON'T you want your team to draft? 2023 Edition

I wish you could just say his name. I think a spotlight deserves to be on him, and clubs deserve to know what they could potentially be getting if they draft him.
I’m just being cautious. There are other red flags that come with him that have been written about in public. Clubs would be aware of a potential red flag and some won’t care. If you’d like to know who it is, PM me.

Caddy I didn’t see make any impact at championship levels. Doesn’t have an engine which could always be worked on. Kick is hot and cold. Feels like a big bust risk.

There should almost be a "who do you think your club will draft" thread, so not a thread on who you hope your club will draft, or who you don't want them to draft, but rather a thread based on experience of what sort of players your recruiter likes to draft.

I feel a running half back with good skills but only touches the ball 10 times a match coming the Swans way.

That reminds me... How is Cooper 'we rated him inside the top 10' Vickery tracking along?

My genuine thought process when reading this post.

"That person sounds familiar, is he that Richmond player that went to Hawthorn, no, different guy, does he play for Hawthorn though, actually, that sounds more familiar, did the Swans draft him last year"

Checks footywire

"Yes, and apparently he is still on the list"

Haha.

He was just part of our NGA and ranged around 40+ but the Swans got him quite early so we couldn't match. Then the quote came out that they rated him around their 'top 10'.

Just not sure if he showed any form in the VFL or if he was injured for his first season. Literally heard nothing ahout him.

From memory I think Beatson said they want him to become a small lock down defender in the Nick Smith mold, but my memory could be wrong as I forgot he was on our list a few hours ago.

It was very hard for anyone to show any form in our VFL team, especially in the first half of the season. Injuries across the squad (especially to tall players), a lack of quality VFL squad players, and a very young group of inexperienced, AFL listed youngsters made for a hot mess.

That said, even with those provisos Vickery was lacklustre. He looked somewhat overwhelmed at the level, playing in an "introverted" manner.

Then, as you have pointed out, he got injured. So we didn't get to see whether he could show a bit more once the team found a semblance of competence in the back part of the season.

Id be disappointed if we took Nick Watson, sans for him winning the rising star and completely changing my mind he is not filling a position of great need
Same with 2 or 3, just far too high for someone of his height.

Remind me also what you got for Buddy.

You are living in fantasy land if you think compo is going to be adequate for good players.
Correct me if I'm wrong but when Franklin and Ablett left their respective clubs they were free agents.

Nobody who is drafted this year will qualify for free agency when Tasmania enter the competition.

Ablett wasn’t from the Gold Coast and the Suns still managed to get him.

Should avoid drafting good players because Tassie will be after them.

A bit incorrect with Ablett, Free agency wasn’t around at that time. Tom Scully went GWS after 2 seasons at Melbourne. Players just had to be out of contract.

Gaj wasn't a free agent. Bud was. The rules were different when gaj left too (although not that different). Basically, any out of contract player "counted as" an unrestricted free agent using the current rules if they were going to an expansion team, and the compensation was the same (based on the same bands we have). And just like the current rules, if the AFL thought the compo was insufficient they could add bonus picks beyond band 1 (which they did for GAJ).

Infamously, they did not do the same for buddy.

Very hard to know how all of this will impact clubs thinking about drafting Tasmanians.

Yep. Just before injury took him out for the year, Vickery played on the wing a couple of times instead of down back. I thought he showed a bit more. Previously I was thinking he was a bust. Needs a big pre season and to have put on a bit of size.

I have personal reasons not to support a draft prospect this year and would prefer Collingwood not to take him. I try to support most players but there are some things that aren’t okay. The player will remain anonymous but is expected to be drafted onwards of the later first round. Anyone else in that boat?
I have heard troubling rumors about one kid too that lines up with this, if the victim is female and the perpetrator has curly hair...

Melbourne a likely destination by the sound of it. North are safe.

No, the victim was a boy and the perpetrator does not have curly hair.

It’s troubling there are rumours about another kid, though.
God damn.
I hope these types get found out and change quickly if they do end up in the AFL system

That stiff doesnt fly in the AFL system, it is knocked out very quickly

Nat Fyfe was probably the most arragant/cocky 18 year old in his first year at AFL, that changed quickly and 8 years on was pretty diffferent

Sure they may still not treat women like you would want if they were your sister or daughter but thats another matter

Bullying, cockiness just wont fly
