hawks have got it but ill throw in gws in there as well and possibly essendon
gws i feel like they are going to implode any year now.
hawks are just rank imho.

I think it may be the Hawks this year, I think they are a year or two behind us in their rebuild, and have lost a number of experienced players.

We won half our games last year with the hardest draw in the comp. Not sure our list is as bad as you make out.
So you're agreeing with me.

You're a middle of the road side, who's made a "courageous" coaching appointment and has won more wooden spoons than any other side?

Notwithstanding the fact you did nothing to improve your list over the off season.

Look I respect as a supporter you need optimism, but there's no doubt you're in the conversation. North will go past you at a rate of knots. Maybe WCE have a similar run with injuries or Hawthorn have cut to deep and that saves you.

No I'm not agreeing with you at all. I get we're an easy answer for the "who finishes last" question we've finished there plenty in our history no doubt but I don't think we'll be anywhere near last this year. I really doubt North go past us this year for one thing. We haven't greatly improved our list this off-season but we haven't gotten worse either something would have to go drastically wrong for us to fall to last place.

Not sure why posters are saying hawks?
The rebuild is nearly complete.

listening to Sam Mitchell and their supporters, they ll have one more year out of finals then it’s time to start topping up and contending.
Good to see the fog of your 2013 PTSD is starting to lift.

Need to revisit my original post ………. you do realise he has not only coached yeah!
I counted the playing year at WCE as a "coaching" year.

I think it's been proven many times that just because you play well for a long time doesn't really have any bearing on if you'll be a good coach. How many mids have made good coaches in the last 20 years? Just Adam Simpson? Buckley? The list of failed mids coaches is in double figures.

I'm not saying that's damning, because Mitchell is different, but his playing record counts for very little as a coach.

I think you're overlooking the fact that injury and covid destroyed the pre-season of a bunch of players, so they never hit full fitness. That's not going to happen again.

Mind you, I've always been of the view if you are going to finish bottom 4, you might as well finish last. A wooden spoon wouldn't be the end of the world.

The last thing you want to do is bounce around between 9-14 for years, not playing finals but not getting good talent in. Freo and Saints both did this for years and have massive holes in their lists which probably won't be solved without another couple of bottom 4 finishes.
I think you’re over looking my response that addressed why you are getting injuries & how much covid actually did besides giving the club an excuse. There was no covid in WA during the preseason as the borders opened March 3rd, season started 20th March and by the 27th March half your side was out. Clearly not putting enough protocols in place to avoid or reduce the impact.

Bottoming out is one thing but you don’t want to get use to getting flogged either. The competition has changed and it takes a long time to bounced back if you have an extended bottom 4 stint. Name 1 year that Freo didn’t get good talent in during our rebuild and also the “massive” holes in our list? I’ll wait.

Too many Hawthorn supporters will be triggered by this poll but realistically I dont blame the basic footy fan for looking at our games experience + age demo and predict we finish last. However it is amusing how many sides finished below us this season putting their 2 cents in, Essendon, West Coast supporters all certain their last seasons were a mulligan or something?

Percentage is always interesting

Last year Hawks had a % of 90 compared to Eagles 59 and Norths 55

That's a gulf really

Based on that I can't see Hawks falling that far away to finish bottom - unless they really want to
true, although there may have been that "new coach first year honeymoon bounce".

Having said that, can we swap Sam for Ken or even your AFLW coach?

Freo's forward line is the big problem. Your top goal scorer from 2022 just left and you have the worst tall forwards in the league. Amiss may turn out to be a good player but he's played 3 games, so is several years from leading a forward line. Tabener is old, injured and inconsistent. Top end KPP talent is what was missed during the build.

The Eagle's pre-season was stuffed by a bunch of players getting sick in March, right as the season was starting. They were at peak fitness but didn't have game conditioning (which teams getbin the first few rounds). By the time they recovered, they were behind the 8 ball and playing group catchup.

I don't know what protocols they were supposed to put in given the majority caught it off their kids. No player would be agreeing to not seeing their family for a season. Freo was lucky that not many player had kids, but a number of those who did also caught it (eg Mundy).

Sorry to hurt your feelings- but what has Sam actually achieved as a coach? The way he is worshipped by your supporters is bizarre.
Its cute how you north fans want to dismiss the faith we have in Mitchell by using the point "he has done nothing as a coach)

He has Achieved more than North's coaches have in the last two seasons apart from squandering Pick 1 and getting fired

Hawks fans trust him, its as simple as that, as much as the rest of this forum wants to say "Hawks fans are worshipping Mitchell", you should support your coach, and thats what is happening

We cant all have 3 coaches in 3 years

During our three peat something which doesn’t get enough notice is the on field coaching that took place and the two players that did it the most was Mitchell and Hodge. Surprised we didn’t see Clarko in the coaches box, leaning back in his chair, hands behind his head and feet up on the table more often!

Sam’s coaching from game plan, setting up structures, training etc will definitely draw upon his experience from his playing days.
