Ridiculous thread really. You don't need to play a sport to be able to analyse it.

I played a few years of club footy and school footy when I was younger, but i've got more knowledge from a lifetime of watching the game than I do from the few years I played it.

Generally that's the case, but you would not have a proper understanding unless you've pulled on the boots at some level (even better if you've performed there, too).

Played for the Fitzroy Stars F.C
Won a premiership in 93:D

I played against the Fitzroy Stars in under 13's and 15's for Lalor Stars back in the ealry 80's.....showing my age:eek:

I remember them vividly because they only had 2 white players in their team and boy were they tough. Not unfair or dirty just tough at the ball.

In one game I kicked 4 in the first half from the centre and at the start of the third quarter I had a solid aborigine boy stand next to me and say something on the lines "First chance I get, gonna get ya". Well it didn't take long as the ball went to the forward pocket and the ball bounced up and as I grabbed it and whirl around to snap my fifth, my man came through with a sensational shirt front, i still managed to snap my fifth but it was my rib and not a goal.:( No kidding this kid came over and helped me up and said" told ya".

So tell us about your illustrious career you.........sexy man

That's not really what this thead is about.

I played around 150 games of competitive footy, but gave it away as the preseasons got longer and the beers started tasting better. I was fortunate enough to play in 2 premiership sides. I was nothing special as a footballer, but I did play with 3 or 4 league players over the journey. Happy now?

God you guys are pussies.

Im a girl and Ive played footy before a week out of my cast.

Then this massive tongan chick came on and I decided not to spend my future in a cast.

Female footy player?

Are you a LLLLLLLLLLLLL.........................

LLLLLLLLLLLLLively little flanker?;)

Played from ages 5-17 including my club, school and East Perth junior squads until shift work took precedence.

I came back to play country footy at age 21 which I loved but I tore my knee the following year and haven't stepped foot on the field since. I still get that urge when i watch the boys go through their pre-season though.

Haha - that was when I had a very strong ANTI urge.

Thankfully I did have one or two coaches that would put the miles into your legs without you realising it - you can still do 18-20 kms a night without having to run the roads and because it's done at different paces, improves your fitness even more.

The part of the game that required the most courage was sitting under the ball to take a mark when you hear a stampede of footy players boots behind you. Especially when you were under 9s playing against under 11s. Big size difference.

Scrapping for the ball on the ground required little courage to be honest. Just hard work.

i expect a lot of essendon rich kids with biceps skinnier than their tie & poorform bandwagon scum to reply

i used to play footy and live in/barrack for essendon
sadly im not rich, i very rarely wear ties and my biceps arent too much bigger than my tie. i'll get to work on those things.

*cue celtic_pride*
Obviously, because it would stuff up his hair. OH MY GOSH as if you didnt mention that.

I dont play for a club.. because I have been looking for maybe 5 years to find a girl club?
I am not a tom-boy and I will not join the boys because its too rough.
But we play at school all the time and I usually average about 20 disposals (play all positions [sometimes ruck even though im only about 180]), and 2 goals.

So I think I play pretty good for a girl my age.

Edit - we only play 35 mins/ 30 mins of footy.

Played Junior footy for years and got to represent Carlton in Little League, a career highlight :D

Also played Senior footy in the YVMDFL.

I'd say playing gave me a far different insight than just watching, but more than anything it was just a hell of a lot of fun.

Tell that to Blake Caracella.

It takes heaps of courage, you've got to dive on top of the ball, and think quickly, and have the ability to produce third and fourth efforts.

It didn't for me. Of course accidents like Blake's CAN happen, but mostly it was just hard work and scraped knees. I love a scrap.

Sitting under the ball waiting it for drop while the stampede of guys comes behind you was the hard part.

Agreed, that is harder. Particularly when you know you're in the hole. That sucks. And you pull out, and you still cop it, albeit verbally.

TBH, I'm still ashamed of my stray forearm in the under-10s. :p

I currently play football and am the captain of my club (junior football). But this thread pisses me off because it is an excuse for crap players to bullshit how good they are.
