Who Really is the best player in the AFL

I'll throw another biased point of view right back at you. Ablett's last two years have been better than Judd at his best. I really believe that and I think you believe your statement too. We'll just have to agree to disagree.

I agree with that too, Ablett's best is better than Judd's.

But the best player is still Franklin, if he fires the other team loses and I think goals and contested marks in the forwardline are very important to winning.

On career form Judd.

On recent form Ablett.

But I wouldn't swap Buddy for either. He is a freak, yet to reach his peak.

The difference right now is the other two were born 4 years earlier.

LOL at those saying Ablett dosen't get the hardball.
He averaged nearly the same amount of contested possessions as Judd this year, and before his injury was averaging more.

my top 3

1. Gary Ablett
2. Lance Franklin
3. Chris Judd/Luke Hodge

On current form or season ending form hard to split ablett or hodge but overall ability and playing at their best i would say judd or brown and not far behind is of course buddy.

In my opinion the most successful goal-kicker is usually the best player (unless there aren't any good goalkickers at a particular point in time). For that reason I'd say Franklin was the best player in 2008. But I like Ablett more.

Massive FAIL!!!

Are you trying to tell us all that you thought that Fraser Gehrig was the BEST PLAYER IN THE AFL in 2004 AND 2005???

Or that your vote for the BEST PLAYER in 1999 was the great Scott Cummings???

Or that in 1986 and 1987, the man they call CAPPER was the second best player, behind the Bristle Man and Plugger respectively???

I'd take Yablett jr right now but I think that with a few more goals and a few more years experience I would take Buddy.
The difference being that ablett has had 3-4 really, really good years and Franklin has only had 2007/2008 as really, really good years.
What I think remains to be seen is if Franklin at 24 is as good as ablett is ie. whether he can string 2009/2010 and beyond as great years like this one was.

Ablett's 2007/2008 were his really, really good years, much like Buddy.
Before that he was only just a good player, exciting and you could tell he had it in him to be elite, but up until 2007 the talent he had was just getting him through, not standing out.

LOL

I diot. Judd was better then ablett. He's not anymore yet he still gets more contested ball

Well is Judds supposed amazing year in 2006 he was getting around 25 possesions and kicked 28 goals and in Abletts 2007 year he was getting around 28 possesions and kicked 29 goals.

I realise stats are not everything but Ablett and Judd play in a very similar fashion (or atleast Judd did) so I'll have to stick with Ablett as the better player.

Bit of a horses for course. If Abblett played on Pav this year Pav would have kicked 150 goals but on the other hand if Buddy Franklin played on Sam Mitchell he would have been dropped to the seconds pretty quick.
You really hav to rate players in their positions to get a true gauge.

Exactly. It also depends on what position everyone considers more valuable.

Hmmm... Buddy, Ablett... I really can't decide.

It's more interesting to the debate the rest:

3. Pav
4. Judd
5. Reiwoldt
6. Brown

Could mix up the order depending on who's played the better month etc.
