I can't imagine any of these former head coaches who now have cushy media/executive jobs ever wanting to coach again. Probably get paid 25% of what they were as coach while only having to do 1% of the work and 0.5% of the stress, while that 25% would still have them in the top 2% of salaries in Australia. Why on earth would someone like Brad Scott or Ross Lyon or Nathan Buckley ever quit their current jobs to coach again?

Do applications close at any time on any day or is this some tell us if your interested when it suits you nonsense. If I’m in charge of a ‘process‘ theres a time when applications close and f**k off if your late, if you want it apply now,if you don’t get f**ked. We cant be waiting for people to decide when they are ready. Get serious or get f***ed.

Seems to be by invitation and because it has stages and some members of the panel have been overseas they sort of do what they can when everyone is available.

Only one of the panel members is a full time employee of the club too.

Some people enjoy a challenge/risk in life and getting the most out of themselves.

I’m struggling to understand what they are doing, surely everyone goes through the same stages. Seems like if you fancy missing some stages just apply late and it doesn’t matter.

I appreciate the panel is not full time but all the more reason to run to a timeline. There is no reason anyone but a current coach hasnt applied already.

We'd probably have got Bomber over Knights if we'd waited.

All 3 of those coaches were never able to win a premiership. Considering the end goal is achieve premiership glory I could see why the fire would still burn there.
Clarkson was going for number 5 and become an outright leader on modern times so that was his motivation but for someone who never won one and that’s how coaches are ultimately judged - the greatest are always Judged the greatest because of how many premierships they won. I could see why.

The stress and everything that comes with it obviously has made a few go, nah f@k that.

That’s my point. Unless they are still in contention; as bomber was back then, why haven’t they applied. If it’s a current coach or assistant fair enough.
It was always said that any experienced coach/assistant would go to "phase 2".

We also don't know if they're interested but Pyke (although he said he is out) might change his availability after the GF.
Scott probably has had obligations and work to do as GM, and the thought is he will enter after the GF.

Caracella probably got to skip phase 1 since he has over a decade as an assistant and an enviable record...until he came here.

If Ross or Cameron had been interested, they would only have probably just come into this "phase 2" now as well. I suspect we get an answer pretty quickly with or without Scott/Pyke entering.

I get your point, but Scott/Pyke (if either are interested) have other priorities to handle first. Though as others have suggested they probably have indicated to Mahoney that they are available after the GF or not.

The inexperienced coaches go through an extra stage at the start, something to do with psyche evals and stuff that experienced coaches don’t need to do. Probably paperwork stuff to do with their accreditation or whatever.

Experienced coaches start at the interview stage and have a couple of hours presenting to the panel; why he is interested, what his vision for the club is, his plan to achieve that and his view on Essendon’s list.

Pyke is a current coach and Scott is seemingly integral to running the Grand Final, so the delay on them interviewing is probably fair.

We don’t know that there aren’t some sort of timelines. Apparently Dorothy Hisgrove was overseas, which might explain the gap between the first four interviews on 7/9 and the first interview with Gia and second interview with Yze that only seem to have happened this week (remembering that there were only 3 business days this week too).

Doing a couple more interviews early next week would conclude the interview phase, presumably.

It is running to a timeline. Less experienced guys have done first round interviews. More experienced now going to interview along with Yze who has done a second interview. Coach to be named nest week or the start of the following week. It has actually been a pretty quick process so far and the coach will be in place before the trade period.

We need a coach by sundown, dya'll hear me?

I'm not going into trade week with dodo holding the keys to the factory
Josh Mahoney has the keys.
