said he spoke to one club about a senior coaching role this year - but said with 3 kids he can’t devote the time to a senior role at the moment

Leppitsch said he is probably the best strategy coach he has ever worked with.

hopefully if McRae gets the gig the club gets a strong strategy coach as part of his panel to complement his own strengths

Can’t remember where I read it, but the Pies were looking for a coach that grew along with the playing group, and for me, I think that is a great way to go about it.

Let’s face it, we are a bottom two side and will remain so at least next year and perhaps the year after. I’m not so bullish about our young players, but there should be plenty of scope for improvement given their COVID interrupted path to the top level.

So I think McCrae is the ideal candidate for us. To develop a list that is only going to get younger and grow as a coach with them.

Ok, I didn't notice - I guess that's why Buckley cleared the list when he got there as Malthouse was a guy that could manage a higher quotient of dickheads than your average coach. Some coaches and clubs seem to have the knack. You can bet if Beams went to Geelong he'd be a 40 possession a week All Australian.
