If I was a footy club announcing a new coach I'd definitely do it on a Monday afternoon. Got a full week of press, and make sure it gives the 5 & 6pm news bulletins a chance to include it.

Next week though I reckon!
Might depend on when teams where Yze and Voss are involved finish their finals campaign.

Well considering Yze and Voss are at Melbourne and Port respectively if that’s the case we won’t know until at least after the prelims. To be honest though given they both have a bye if either of them are still in contention then you’d think you’d only wait until they finish if they are the successful candidate. With them having a bye there’d be time to conduct final interviews or inform them that they have been unsuccessful this week.

Based on GW’s radio interview last week it sounds like there’ll be an announcement this week or next week.

The only person I can think of who might have reasonably been expected to be affected by the timeline outlined by GW (and he did say some candidates are involved in finals)is Blake Caracella. Totally off everyone's radar

Given it seems to be down to 3 I have to say i am happy with whoever the committee recommend. I understand we all have an opinion and I am hoping for McRae but would be fine if Voss is selected

I think we all seem happy we are going through the process diligently. Also with GW in charge the integrity of the process seems excellent. Even though it is his 1st times being involved in a coach selection.

On that basis , with all the info they have and we don't, if they plumb for Voss surely thats something we support. Would need to accept he seems the candidate most likely compared to the others.

Is the main angst on Voss his coaching, his Brions connection or the Crazy Vossy trade hijinks?
Always thought he was in the Buckley Hird Voss mode still in the favourite son that never left and walked into the job. My memories probably a bit blurred but was his coaching that horrendous? Possibly he’s also learnt some more trips on his travels as well, if McRae isn’t the one then I’m happy enough to go with who they choose. The process finally seems right.

That post is a Mac Ray of sunshine
With apologies to Axiom..

The Board says, a coach has to have a name,
Not the same as our Bucks, but a name just the same,
A little McRae of sunshine is coming to our world,
A little McRae of sunshine is gonna make us twirl.

We'll show him the stripes that he'll wear,
With the Magpie flair that history provided,
A little McRae of sunshine is coming to our world,
A little McRae of sunshine so pass on the word,

A little McRae of sunshine.

I want to know if you think he’s the link,
From over the border,
To lead the slaughter.

He can make you feel good,
He can make you feel that it's all worthwhile,
Only by his game style,
Only by his game style,

Have you noticed he’ll be the master,
And I think that he’d rather
We play a lot faster,
A little McRae of sunshine is coming to our world,
A little McRae of sunshine is gonna make us twirl,

He can make you feel good,
He can make you feel that it's all worthwhile,
Only by his game style,
Only by his game style,

:D

I think Voss the coach was a bit of a victim of circumstance. Came in post dynasty when inexperienced favourite sons were the rage. Took over Brisbane when all the AFL resources were pumped into getting GC going, leaving their football department a shambles. He was either expected to oversee too many departments like list management - an issue not faced by current coaches - or was unfairly maligned as the instigator of some calamitous trades, hence the "Crazy Vossy" title.

I'd say that there are many coaches from that era that would have performed much better if their only job was to coach, like their current counterparts.

I think this is the catch-22 with going with a name. If it's Alistair Clarkson then fans want him no matter what even if he isn't the best fit for the group. If it's Michael Voss then fans don't want him even if he is the best fit because they are known enough to have a reputation or perceptions about them which is what opinions are based on even if they aren't the complete picture.

Matty Knights is another, IMO. He fell victim to the messiah complex with Hird and has put together a very reasonable career with Geelong ever since. With the support structure around coaches today and how he had that Bombers team playing I think he’d go alright if he ever got another shot.

Other teams have made announcements with finals candidates becoming head coach in fact didn't we have Scott walk away through mid finals under MM?

I really don't care anymore!!
I really wanted Clarko, basically because it was Clarko.
He has the runs on the board, so was an easy "go to bloke".

As our list and ladder position shows us, we are starting from scratch. It isn't just a few tweaks and we are good to go.
We are rebuilding and as half of our side is going to be made up of kids, development of them is key.

McRae, Kingsley, Voss, ect, ect, it doesn't matter, as we are not going to all agree with the choice either way.
There are too many unknowns, so we can tell ourselves what we want but none of us really know.

No matter who they put in, I know they will do a better job than you or I, so I am happy to let them have a crack and the people making the decisions, can be judged by the results.
Which we all know they will be...

Clearly the new coach needs a simple, uncomplicated, and easy to spell name. That counts out Caracella, Leppitsch and - sorry - McRae.

Looks like it’s either Voss or Scott.☹️

Mark Williams would be the perfect candidate as development coach.

The other thing to consider is retirements to senior players over the next 2 or so years,
It's going to take time.

We don’t have generic portfolios like “player development” anymore.

They’re all oddly specific and yet juxtaposed. “Backline and ball movement”
“Midfield and flow”
“Forwardline and mindfulness”
“Rucks and poetry”
“Transition and self-actualisation”
