Who should we select with our first draft pick?

Isn't there some questions on his pace, a la Ebert? If not, let's start ciculating that rumour.:D

True. Apparently an old lady with a hip problem beat him for the last seat on the bus last week and she gave him a 3m head start.

On an unrelated matter, how is that crab Jetta still getting a game at Swans? Does he have incriminated photos of the coach?

Rookies I want

Rhett Mason (love this kid)
Michael Cooper
Anthony Delborello (great medium foward clever player)

Pure class this bloke, is actually untouchable in the colts competition. His not super quick, but can weave his way through trouble like Judd does. Really hope we pick him up!

Oh gee lets see i wonder if it will be a AIS acadamy bloke.

but I can't find the intake for 2007/2008 can somebody help me please

I agree with all previous comments about drafts being unpredictable and it is hard to ascertain a definitive selection list.

I would love to see Lucas or Morabito on our list. I single out these two as it appears that they are the most likely to be available at our pick.

I've watched a few highlights of Lucas and he looks like a pacy type with a decent tank. He also has the ability to kick extremely well on both sides of the body and hopefully he can develop this to an Akermanis type standard.

Anthony Morabito looks like he has a good foundation to be a great AFL player. I have read that he does have a little bit of an attitude problem, nothing that Woosha couldn't fix however. We all know that he was a standout in the U18 Carnival and so picking him appears to be a no brainer.

As previously posted, it would be great to see how these two fair in the Draft Camp.

If we draft Lucas, he will start off playing at half-forward (due to his light frame and is a very good kick.) Another midfielder with terrific running power would be perfect. Out of Lucas/Trengrove for me but Woosha is a fan of Morabito too.

Lucas is definately our number one and realistic priority imo. He is an extremely hard worker with good skills and compliments the current make up of our squad right now. This draft we should draft for best available in the positions we need players. Even if every bloke we draft flops I think we have the current squad to do big damage in a couple of years and maybe even win a premiership. This being the case I think we should prioritize what we want from this draft like this:

1.) A quick, gun kicking, outside midfielder.
2.) Small crumbing forward. (Would have put this first but I reckon you can pick up players of this mould later in the draft)
3.) Best small players available or even a ruckmen to boost our ruck stocks. The WA ruckmen was a gun in the game I watched, not sure of his name or where he's being suggested as taken.

IMO we don't need talls, we have them coming out of our arse so small forwards and speedy outside mids should be the order of the day.

swannies do you follow the Swans colts team much? I played footy with a young fella there now, Dylan McCutchin, who as a 15-16yo used to carve up in the seniors in the NPFL. Slight frame but one of those slippery as hell players you can never tackle. His family tell me that he's doing really well down there (leading possesion getter for the season??) but I've never spotted his name in regards to drafting. Is he any good? Or am I getting some bias info? Cheers.

That dude is shit. No club with a brain will go anywhere near him.

Just a quick point, I would not be shocked to see the Demons skip over Butcher. They already have LJ and Watts, another key forward might not be as high on their list. The Demons could do a one, two combo of Scully and Morabito. This would give them about as close to a sure thing in Scully with the massive x factor of Morabito.

I rate Morabito slightly above Lucas, but it will be hard to split the two.

Jurrah is 191cm if I recall correctly. Doesn't look that tall but he is.
If Melbourne take Scully and Morabito it makes me compare it to Richmond when they got Deledio and Tambling. In this case, Butcher is Franklin.

I can see it now, Karmicheal Hunt eat your heart out

Player number 35567 LeBron James

Wow pretty tall

In draft related news, i read somewhere that the Draft may be moved to a thursday night so that it can be broadcasted live on TV

Yeh its gonna be like Deal or no Deal apparantly. Each briefcase has a player in it and each team selects in order. The look on Baileys face when he picks brief case number 2 and reveals Jarrod Oakley Nicholls will be priceless and quality TV

I'd like a Trengove/Lucas + Jetta/Colyer combo with the first two.
Many keen observers agree that Jetta's future lies in the midfield, so i think a more conventional midfield option would be best with the first pick.
Jetta starts off up forward, transitioning to the midfield in a few years, as Hawthorn are doing with Cyril.
If Melbourne avoid a PP, which i suspect is a decent chance, then Trengove well and truly comes in to the equation, as North might be looking at another potential Dynasty FF/CHF in butcher, or a harvey receiver replacement in Morabito.

Hmm interesting discussion.

I have been reading a lot on bigfooty lately and most people seem to rate Morabito higher then Lucas. IMO Lucas is a much better player at this stage. All the talk is about Morabito's blistering pace but Lucas is no slouch and wouldn't be that much slower at all. They both have quite unusual kicking actions but Lucas has fantastic vision and hits the target while Morabito seems to have very poor kicking. Lucas is AFL ready IMO and with his strong marking he could very easily play as a half forward next year with a bit of time on the ball.

It will be interesting to see if you take Trengove if all 3 are available to you. Lucas and Morabito could very well end up the better players. From what I have seen it is the elite work ethic, endurance and consistency that sets Scully and Trengove apart from 2 WA boys, not necessarily any natural talent or ability.

I am just happy that we will all be getting a top quality player. For a while there I was fearing we would have a year this terrible but still end up with a middle of the road pick.

Not as much this year as the past 3, because my son now plays early Saturday mornings. I've seen about 3 games this year, and I have been impressed with young McHutcheon (from Dampier - correct)? Wears the number 34 and is a little like Masten, in that he accumulates possessions without anyone really noticing. He had the most possessions for the team on Saturday, yet Thomas Martin was the one I really noticed, more flambouyant etc, so you see my point. Short answer is he's pretty good, from the limited times I've seen them.:thumbsu:

I'm not sure Melb is guaranteed 1 and 2. They play North this week and Freo next week. It's obviously in both those clubs interests that Melbourne don't get both picks and now with the tank spotlight soley on the demons... i expect some justice will be done and they'll win the next two.

As for who'll we'll take first, there's probably not much choice. Hopefully we can trade for a couple picks from 20-30 though.

Nah Melbourne will get the PP, everyone expects them to lose now and they'll be doing what they can to make sure it happens.

Would say you're referring to Donaldson, the redhead?
Not tall enough to ruck at AFL level, 190-195 iirc. No idea where/even if he will be taken, would hazard a guess at a rookie pick. But he score an invite to national draft camp, and will impress in the testing (very quick, great leap) so who knows.

Just a quick question to those who watch these juniors play.

How do the likes of Swallow/Darling compare with Scully/Trengrove and even Rich/Swift at similar stages?
