Who should we select with our first draft pick?

Wouldnt mind another KPP defender late in the draft tbh. Can never have too many of them.

It's not about quantity, it's about quality. KPP IMO, should only be chosen in round 1 or 2.

We don't need extra KPP who'll be worse than Wilkes, It'd be a waste of our late picks. We should use our late picks on pockets and flanker type players because the quality in KPP gets snapped up early in every draft.

That is true, but I was assuming our late pick be around 40ish at the max (if the trades happen). Anyway, wasnt Wilkes taken in the rookie draft? Though, we have done well in the 30-50 region in drafts. (especially with defenders - Schofield/JoJo)

We could do as you say, but I think it'd be risky.

I don't think JoJo is a KPD. I see him as a HBF.
Schofield: While he has potential, he is struggling to make the grade. He also is not a KPP. If he were to be, he'd have a fair bit of work ahead of him. It's possible that he could be a successful KPP. He has the right attributes for it.

This upcoming draft will have nothing decent for us in the 30-50 range, KPP wise.
I'd take a KPP, if a highly touted one slips to our 2nd round pick, but otherwise, I wouldn't be on the hunt for one in this draft. Next year perhaps with our 1st pick, depending on who's left.
ATM, I think we have more pressing concerns.

So there's more of a depth to this draft than I thought.

Seeing as I haven't heard of Griffiths.

197cm Key Forward, massive mark and strong athletic ability. Is an AIS kid who has been injured allot over the last two seasons came back from an injury midway through this years champs. On ability he is as good as Butcher and Panos.

Wow pretty tall

In draft related news, i read somewhere that the Draft may be moved to a thursday night so that it can be broadcasted live on TV
Prime time. Much better then a 9am Saturday morning draft. Must watch television though it appears it'd be on foxtel.

Haven't taken too much notice of the draft this year but as our season implodes I've kept an eye on names that appear prominent. With our current form we are likely to finish 10th which gives us pick 8 due to Melbourne's PP.

Scully, Morabito, Butcher, Trengove, Lucas are the names being regurgitated mostly though this bloke named Jetta has spiked my interest except most are claiming him to be a dud.

Chances are at least one will 'slip' to pick 8 and there are always players that haven't entered calculations yet that will become household names to us BF'ers.

I think West Coast need a quick midfielder with good skills. Appears Morabito fits that description.

Morabito has good skills by hand, kicking is a major factor and thats where Lucas comes into his own. Working of a FF he could be of great value even early on his career such is his kicking ability.

Which is why it should be a no brainer for us

Lucas all the way

I reckon we should stick to mids (preferably outside), crumbing forwards and stopping small defenders in the draft. If we want to go for a KPP, try a Jurrah/Sibosado esque rookie/PSD selection. With Fletch going (we assume) and the probable upgrades of Davis/Wilson/Cockie, we will have quite a few rookie spots on our list. Go for some unpredictable KP prospects there, some X factor, rather than going for a seemingly second rate midfield prospect.
Trengove/Lucas + Jetta/Colyer thanks.

Why does everyone think that Lucas has elite kicking skills?.....All the vision I have seen is very much the opposite. Rich is an elite kick. Lucas isnt even close.

Lucas looks like a Rosa clone to me.

I agree with the sentiment of this post, however Lucas is alot better than Rosa, Lucas has a pair and has a natural footy brain.

Whilst his kicking is not elite, it is well above average.

Rosa is a deadset spud.

I think he played only a half in the U18's for Metro against NSW or QLD but he kicked 5 goals (they won by quite alot so probably saw quite a bit of the ball). Seems to be quite injury prone but at the start of the year would have been well and truly rated in the top 20. If he is available at our second pick I wouldn't be suprised if we took a bit of a risk on him, unless there was someone else available that we desperately needed.

I think alot of people just regurgitate what they hear from other people rather than watching him play and forming their own opinions.

For mine Lucas has quite a high ball drop, allowing the ball more time to hit his boot off skew. Compare this with someone like Cousins who guides the ball onto his boot eliminating much of this possibility.

He may be able to get away with this for the most part at U18's and WAFL level but can this action stand up under AFL pressure?

Mel Scully
Mel Trengove
Fre Morabito
Ric Butcher
North Lucas

Then the guessing game occurs.

WC ??????

From Rohan, X factor

I saw Colyer mentioned in another thread. Any truth in that?

Do you reckon there's any chance of Lucas or Morabito sliding to 6?

You ask plenty of questions Gunnar
But cant seem to offer any answers or oppinion yourslef
Are you that stupid ?
You're embarrassing yourself.

If you claim to be the "last renaissance", but appear to have very little confidence or football knoweldge judging by all the questions you ask
I don't claim to be an expert on potential draftees.

I'm quite happy to hear from people who know more about these kids than I do.
