Who should we select with our first draft pick?

Just watched the day 2 draft camp video on bigpond.

Apparently Norris won the beep test at 15.7 and Sam Reid got 14.7

Sam Reid gave an interview, he's a KPD from Victoria and apparently the #1 KPD in the draft.

Butcher also interviewed and mentioned kicking wasn't his strong suit but he came across as a good bloke.

Likewise Jetta said he was worried about kicking on his left for the kicking drill. Jetta is one shy bloke but he comes out with some good lines like "the wind was blowing harder when I had to kick".
Nah i'd take Talia before Reid in the KPD stakes.
Talia has a hamstring injury at the moment IIRC, and hasn't taken part at the camp, but rest assured he has great endurance and very good athleticism.

I'm 100% on the Talia train now.
CHB who has fearless attack on the ball, good spoiling and is a very good contested mark. Rebounds very well due to his natural athleticism, ability to shrug a tackle and beautiful footskills.
Plays primarily at CHB, but Metro also used him in the midfield as a ruck rover, and swings forward regularly for Calder.
Averaged 19 disposals at 79% efficiency, with 5 marks, 2 clearances and 4 tackles in the U18s.
Great prospect

I've finally won you over, eh bs?:D

I've always been keen on him. Always been my 2nd or so preference.
Watching some more footage of him, I am convinced, as his work in the midfield is great. Averages 17 disposals (at 71% with a k:h ratio of 3:2), 1 goal, 5 marks (over 1 contested), 3 tackles per game and only 0.3 Free kicks against per game.
Could be used as a Fisher-esque CHB or a Morton-esque wingman, either way as he has all of the tools.
If we got Talia and say Colyer/Duncan, we would be laughing

I am betting Sheaperd. Read an article recently quoting Wiley who claims he has improved the most out of any of the WA kids this year with the implication that there was plenty more to come. Otherwise it will be Jetta. Hope he doesn't like turtle as much as the last top 10 indigenous pick we claimed.

Very risky pick, is he what we need? absolutely and especially considering Wirra retired. I also like the fact that he is a little bit older as he will fit better with the kids we have now in terms of development/maturity.

Is there any chance he could slip to our second pick? Or is it a case of pick 7 or nothing?

I am sitting on the fence on this one, I am very keen on having him at the club but i am worried he is not worth such a high pick.. Time will tell i guess.

Jetta will be gone before our 2nd pick.

Either we take him with Pick 7 or nothing.

Interesting to see Brad Sheppard is in the mix. Would rather Jetta.

Draft Camp Day 3 , Jetta was very busy Yesterday speaking to fourteen clubs . Evidently will be taken in First round of draft for certain .Could be pick 7 or not at all for Eagles with Jetta

West Coast have a tougher decision then in last years draft :footy:

Not a chance, still testing in the top 10 for most of these camp results but more then likely hasent had the specific training for those tests that most of these kids get. I dont think he will be "best available" at pick 7 so the recruiters will have to show some steel balls to take him there.

Why?

Jetta is a lazy front runner, Sheppard a 200 gamer in the making.

kane lucas is a proven player at senior level, and has tested more agile and quicker over 20m than jetta, no brainer for me.

So what's the chance of it being none of the 3?

Typically players linked strongly with the Eagles rarely turn up at the Eagles.:)

The following i would want to take at our first pick(in order of preference)
-Dustin Martin
-Tapscott
-Lucas
-Sheppard(though i think he will be around for our second pick)
-Jetta

-Rohan

West Coast can seek Indigenous talent further into the draft , Jetta is really exciting not our pick 7 I doubt.

Lucas has tested very well , so playing safe Lucas , Shepherd or maybe Mitch Duncan / Aaron Black as smokey .

Adelaide are very interested in Black @ pick 13

i dont understand the fuss about tapscott, he has proven nothing about his ability to find the ball and from all accounts he a has a booming kick that cant hit a target ala nicoski.

Butcher?

Kennedy CHF
Brown in the Backline
Or we have enough talls? If Butcher is available and we were going on best available I think it would be hard to go past him

Taking Butcher would make Notte and Wilson redundant. I'm happy to eventually have Notte as our FF. In the mean time, we can use Lynch or Wilson as a big in our forward 50.

By taking the best available midfielder, it helps cover our future retirements. It also allows us to play quality mids as starters and have quality on the bench without having to use any weak links.
It's our last decent draft in awhile, so we need to go for players who'll cover positions of those closer to retirement.
We don't want to be making good progress, only to stumble because we didn't have a good succession plan in place to allow our team a faultless transition when retirements occur.
We've had plenty of our premiership players retire this year, but we won't have any transition problems because we have good quality depth. It's going to be harder to cover Embley and Kerr though. I don't want to be replacing them with Cockie, JMac or McGinnity, that would take us 2 steps backwoods. Hence the reason I would choose to select best available mids with our first 2 selections so as to give us better quality midfield depth before GC and WSyd limit our drafting options. It'd take a pretty special young tall to slide for me to want us to select him over a mid.

Teams can't have enough top notch mids. We could be like the Bulldogs in regards to not having a weak link on field with their smaller players. We though, could be a premiership team, unlike them, because we have quality talls coming through.

Taking Colyer with our 2nd round pick will kill 2 birds with 1 stone. It solves our FP deficiency, as well as giving us better quality midfield depth.
