This is about the most misleading poll I've seen on big footy.

You can't measure who is better based on wins over one season.

Essendon has been a basket case - in the genuine sense of that word, for a very, very long time. They've been worse than bad.

They can bank as many wins as they want in 2024, but the jury is still out on how good a club they are in 2024.

Maybe if they win a flag, and some serious humanitarian type gong they'd be in the frame.

As it stand now, aren't they just a club with more convicted criminals or drug cheating program organizers on their past senior coaching roll during the last 10-14 years, than every other club combined?

Ironically enough, they're also the only club I'm aware of to have falsely dobbed in another club for drug cheating.

If that is all correct, doesn't it kind of overshadow anything they've done on field for two odd decades by some margin?
Essendon played finals in 2019 and 2021, which is twice since Hawthorn last played finals in 2018.
It's been five (soon to be six) years since Hawthorn last played finals.

Essendon, on the other hand - never spent more than four consecutive years out of the finals, despite going through the worst era in their history.

That's really nice.

If I'm to understand correctly, you've managed to play finals and never really have any success in them quite regularly this century?

Spitballing here: would it be a bit more honest to re-write the words to the 'Fly up, up!' song then?

Essendon got caught doping. Every board had a thread about it.
Kinda sad and pathetic that three clubs continue to pile on Essendon a decade after the "darkest day in Australian sport" in individual threads on ones own board.

unhinged doesn't begin to describe it

poor diddums.

If there wasn’t a steady stream of denialists making all sorts of dumb claims every few months ever since those threads would be dormant.

We’re a happy team at hawthorn ? By freezing out a four time premiership coach ? All for one and one for all ? On a million to do nothing but twiddle his thumbs in the final year of his contract?

Pretty obvious answer to the op, and it’ll be for quite a while yet, Hawthorn have actually gone backwards from last year, with the 19th team on the horizon and not a lot of top end talent on their list, it’s gonna be a long decade.

2024 sure. Essendon will be close or make finals.

But your knowledge is not there if you think Hawthorn lack top end talent. Same if you think it’ll be a “long decade”.

In what metric have the Hawks gone backwards?
If you want to use ladder or win/loss then last year we finished 16th with 7 wins.
Based on current ladder we have played 1st, 2nd, 4th, 5th, 9th, 10th, 11th and 18th. Won against 11th and 18th.
Missed beating the reigning Premiers in 9th by 5 points.
We still have to play 12th, 13th, 14th, 15th, 17th (twice) and 18th (again).
Still have 4 home games in Tassie to come - think Freo in 6th we might be able to give a shake (in Tassie) and we seem to play well against Collingwood who we have again as well.
Lets see how the season pans out before making predictions of going backwards on win/loss from previous year.
We have the second youngest list in the AFL and still have plenty of development to come in many good young players we can see regular good glimpses from.
We also have had a much worse injury list this year and only starting to get a few back.
For example out best player from last year Will Day has only juts got back and played 2 games.
When Tassie come in we should be getting back to regular finals footy and have many players around the 100 game mark.

Yeah but they all left that thread 7 years ago. North, Hawthorn and Carlton boards continued the obsession.
“cOntInUe tHE obSeSSion”

Some Essendon dolt claims that the players were scapegoats and that James shoud be pardoned every 3 months, and we keep laughing.

You can if the question is who is better in that season. Or does less wins = more success? Coz in that case we've got the Hawks covered for the last 20 years.

Thread title: Who will be better in 2024? Hawthorn or Essendon?

Hawthorn fans: "Deflect! Deflect! Deflect!"
It's always bizarre to me how posters can't admit their team isn't the bestest in the world all the time.

Essendon is, for now, the better team in 2024. Admitting that won't cause Hawthorn to fold.
