Anyone genuinely arguing for McStay and Cox > Curnow and Mckay should be booted off the thread. It's almost as dumb as arguing Nicky Squibcos could be the GOAT while remaining as tough as fairy floss

So you acknowledge your claim that the Red Sox effectively delisted him was made up.

Bagger fans and facts ay.

It was a roster fill and it’s likely the Red Sox knew about it/didn’t care, thus basically a release. He certainly wasn’t traded from the Red Sox to the A’s like you condescendly suggested.

Your call that Perryman, a player being paid $900k, who’s a former first rounder being given a role in his natural position is a ‘moneyball’ move is dumb as dog shit.

Ironically, you’re shit canning the strategy of drafting teenagers based on potential, whilst the recruit of Perryman is literally based on his midfield potential.

They are also ignoring one of the major differences between MLB and most other sports which is the absence of a hard cap.

Stop whining about it and show us what you think the best combined team is then.
Now , why would I bother when you have already confirmed your own 2 players into the side, and your friend has already removed McKay and Curnow from the team in place of McStay and another Collingwood player, and has removed Cripps from the midfield in lieu of Mitchell.
So , as confirmed, there's taking the piss, and then there are posters who take it further than that.

LoL a trade is now a release.

I never suggested that at any stage.

You brought up Hatteberg, but got your facts wrong. It was you who claimed the Sox delisted him.

Dont worry, you aint the first Bagger to not bother with facts.

Let's get back to some facts

Carlton was the better team in 2024

Since WWII, Carlton have been the better team

Understand why Pie supporters are still salty, not a contending powerhouse, just the Powderpuff Pies
The last time Carlton won a flag....

Chicken ...🐔 bruk bruk...

You have to admit taking Curnow into a finals series is a bit sketchy with his record. Gets the Blueshakes. Saad was terrible this year cooked. Docherty's cooked. Anyone else remotely worthy?

Also did I see there was a combined best 23 with fkin Perryman ahead of Newman, Saad and Docherty? Have you lot even watched him play???

Comedy Central Lol GIF
We’ll give you Newman, who is a better back than Perryman. Saad wouldn’t be picked by anyone that values skills. Docherty a great pick for the 2016 or 17 combined team. Not so much for 2025.

They’re ignoring the definition & foundations of sabremetrics & moneyball.
Ignoring what?

Sabermetrics is a science of sport. It is the empirical analysis of baseball through statistics, used to predict the performance of players, giving teams a winning edge.

A key piece of analysis they found was that high-school kids taken in the first round of the draft busted around 60% of the time, and after 5 years only 10% were actually major league starters.

If you want to win games, like the As did, you want to bring in mature players who will perform.

Or you can decide to be a feeder club, never contending and just being happy to be in the big league making $$ for your owner and hoping a kid delivers on potential (who will then just leave and go to a big club who wants to win).

If it's that ridiculous an assertion, tell us all why you're picking Cripps ahead of Mitchell, and Curnow/McKay ahead of Cox/McStay based on how they have historically performed in finals?

It sounds as though it should be quite straightforward.

You people live in fantasy land. I stopped considering the exercise once old mate took the dual brownlow medalist out of the midfield in place of Mitchell. And to actually believe that Cripps would not be worthy of a midfield role amongst the 2 sides shows what world his head space is actually in currently. So no, I won't bother. You stick to your side I'm sure they will win plenty of games for you next season

You have Carlton 16th and Collingwood with 19 of the best 23 players in a combined side as of right now. Fantasy land

Ignoring what?
Ignoring the fact that Moneyball was using analytics to identify players that are being undervalued by the market relative to the impact they would have on the specific team. Houston/Perryman have not been undervalued by the market - in fact the latter has been overvalued due to the FA system.

This doesn't mean they are bad moves but to characterise them as Moneyball acquisitions is just wrong.

Speaking of the facts, do you consider Perryman and Houston, both on reportedly 900k with Houston picked up in lieu of future draft picks, as moneyball players ?
Membrey, yes he is moneyball. The other 2 ?
