I'm pretty sure we are up to 998 but I couldn't find anything on the Geelong site to verify it.

Barring injury Ottens will be 999 (Arnie!), who do you think will be number 1000?

Does the club give them anything special for been the 1000th player?

They should give them a picture of them running through the banner or something. They would be able to put that up on their wall and show people.

I have a picture of Will Slade running through the banner at his first game on my wall. My friend David gave it to me.

C'MON THE MIGHTY CATS GET IT ON!

Lonergan is my pick, then maybe a 2004 draftee. Bomber Thompson seems pretty adamant that Tom will play a big part in 2005, so we will just have to wait and see.

Not 100% sure, but I believe that Ottens was the 1000th player to debut for Richmond, hopefully he can be for Geelong aswell and probably make some pretty unique history!

Drumroll............................

And the player is.........................Tim Callan!!!!!

The next geelong player will be player number 1006

At least that is according to the number of players in the past players list plus the number of players who have played seniors in the current squad. Interestingly enough, the gfc site has already shifted Graham out of the main squad and into the past players list.

Hmm I thought I remembered reading an article on Koula saying he was the 998th player and when I checked on the gfc site it said nearly a thousand players had played for Geelong.

It still says that on the past players page, but if you actually count the players. Not that I am that sad. Just copied and pasted the list into excel and looked at the row numbers.

There was indeed an article that said that. Maybe they're not counting VFL-only players or something. The past players page has everyone who used to be on the list, not everyone who played.

Well spotted Koula Girl!

Looking again at the list they have included some who never made the grade (not sure why they bothered though). The list of players included without match numbers;

Ezra Bray, Brent Cowell, Leigh Harding, Tyson Hay, Paul Lindsay, Paul Lynch, Tristan Lynch, Liam Pickering, Lee Purton, Joe Slater, Carl Steinfort

However Steinfort, Slater, Pickering, P. Lynch and I think Lindsay all played at least one match in the seniors. I would appreciuate it though if somebody could verify that. That means the past players list is 966 payers while there are 33 members of the current senior squad who have played in the seniors. Meaning the next player to line up is number 1000 and that will probably be, barring injury, Ottens.

I've never heard of Slater but the rest definitely played seniors. Steinfort, Pickering and Lynch would have all played 50-100+ AFL games.

Tristan Lynch played a season or two as well.
If Tristian Lynch played seniors, then that means we have just reached player 1000, that would have been Koula, who I think debuted the week after Byrnes.
