who will be the better player in the long run - Martin, Trengrove or Scully

It's the new Hodge/Ball/Judd! Yay for that!

Picking now, I'd take Martin. He has a lot more mongrel in him.

Crystal ball for the long run? I think the order of drafting will prove correct. Scully, Trengove and Martin in that order. That's not a slight on Martin though. I love the way he goes about it and think he will be a champion at the Tiggies.

All will be great and are impacting games now.

My guess is that Scully will win more possessions and clearances on a consistent basis. Has the massive tank, pace and smarts to shade the other two....maybe.

I reckon they will be all sensational, and therefore it will be splitting hairs to select one. However, I reckon I will get the most enjoyment out of watching Trengove; Looks silky smooth with the ball.

I personally think Scully will be better than Trengove, but there really isn't much in it. Most Demon fans I've spoken to have it the other way around.

Then there's Martin who is the best of the 3 currently, and is only going to get better. Definitely a future gun, actually **** that, he already is a gun!!!

I'm glad we have 2 of the 3. Thanks again Jordie. ;)

Currently, Martin is the best of the three, but I think Scully will end up at the top of this group of players.

In some sense, it's just a feeling I get after seeing so much football over the past few years, but his elite qualities and approach to the game, in conjunction, just scream top 5 player in the AFL to me.

I mean, he's got amazing acceleration, ridiculously quick hands, the ability to find a stack of the ball and, perhaps most importantly, the kind of tank that will see him dominate in the 4th when everyone else is struggling to keep up their intensity from the previous 3 quarters.

Having said that, all of them will end up being stars of the competition, so Melbourne and Richmond fans will be very happy for a number of years to come.

Impossible to tell of course, if I had to guess I'd say that Martin will be more dangerous with the ball because of his incredible kicking, while the other guys will end up with bigger motors and get more of the footy. You'd be happy to have any of them in your team.

It really depends on who can make up their deficiencies more. Martin is the power athlete, he'll always be stronger and faster than the other two, whereas Scully and Trengove are the endurance athletes who will always have huge tanks.

Both have a lot of room for improvement in the other area, with Scully and Trengove bound to put on a lot of size over the years, and Martin, being very new to the environment of the footballer, has a lot of room to improve his endurance.

And then there are the other attributes, with Martin having the best kicking, Scully having the best handball, and Trengove being the best mark.

Pull it out of a hat.

At the start of the season what we all knew was that Trengrove and Martin where going to have a faster impact then Scully. However we also knew that Scully had a lot more potential then the other 3. That has not changed Scully will be the best of the 3. However Martin would have surely leap froged Trengrove.

Long term, Scully for me.

I managed to catch the Freo v demons game last sunday to see Scully go head to head with Steven Hill (who i rate very highly).

Hill just could not keep up with scully's workrate. Scully ended up with the most disposals on the ground and as he gets bigger and stronger, I just see him being an untaggable superstar.

Between Martin and Trengove, as has been mentioned before both have different strengths.

Trengove the better endurance athlete, better mark and better all rounder. I see him being a Bartel-like player. Martin a better power runner, better kick, better clearance player.

Both will be guns, the difference will be who improves most in the areas they are a little deficient. If I had to make the call, I'd go Martin just.

All 3 will be guns. Melbourne lucky to have 2 of them

Perfect Summary.

Another good reply :thumbsu:

I honestly would be just as happy with Martin as well as Scully & Trengove, no idea who will end up the best, it's probably irrelevent though because I can see all three being very, very good. Hell, they already are.

Trengove for me, amazed how good his footy brain is, occasionally he just does things where I've thought even a seasoned veteran wouldn't have thought about doing it.

Martin is clearly the best at the moment, love the way he goes about it.

Scully is still more or less rated on potential for me, imo he has only really shown his great endurance so far, so he need's to catch up to the other two in the other areas.

Bit hard on Hill as he received more coaches votes in that game than scully and had the most contested possesssions. Though i think scully could be the best out of those 3, but Morabito is the better athlete and potentially footballer than those 3.

You are a tool.

The OP isn't asking which player is the best from the 2009 draft or who is the best youngster.

Sheppard ;)

Kidding, i'm giving it a few years for them to develop. I'd be glad to have any of them in my team.

That said i'm very happy with Sheppard.
