Who will coach Devonport?

Remove this Banner Ad

Ha not a bad one ball n chain but they do have good depth and with some good kids coming through, keeping them out of the pubs before games could be trouble.

Ulverstone for mine. Launceston won't and can't win it with out Derby. Plus the hunger will have diminished Ulverstone have Matthew Howard Simon Vanderfeen And Vin Ponsonby that will be absolute guns up from the u/19s. Garry Howard their u/19 coach this year has been very good for the youngsters. As good as an under age coach you will get. Howard will play again back it in. Ulverstone 0 and 6 and back will come the Buzz.

0-6 , yet there the team to beat ???????
derb is very important to launceston , he kicked 21 goals in the finals series , but a fit brian finch is the other thing up launcestons sleeve, something they didnt have last year and still yieled 60 odd goals for the year.
Ulverstone have a lot of heart , but to loose crawford , wish wilson and howard , they canot be competitive with out those guys, if these u/19 kids are so good they would of been playing against men alot earlier than next year. where as launceston's good 18-20 year olds have 2 premiership medals.
anyway good luck to them.

but to lose crawford , wish wilson and howard , they canot be competitive with out those guys,

Worth remembering that Whish spent most of the year with the Devils and played injured for the rest of the season, Crawf was out injured for most of the year and only came right in the last two finals, and Buzzard was not his former self until the first final against Launceston - and he made some uncharacteristic mistakes in the GF. The robins did well enough without them during the year. They just need a forward who can kick 60-70 goals.

Ulvie will miss those guys no doubt, but the fox has always got something up his sleeve. If he has another find like Jarrad Gale then that's all he needs.

Devonport will fall back to the pack - unless their reserves and under 19s turn up someone special. Burnie will get off to a great start under Plappy and will finish top 4.

At the end of the day it will be out of launy, ulvy, dev and a new look burnie. The rest are shit. The comp is weaker and if people think thats a good thing, they are living in a little fish bowl. I heard someone say before Max Brown would have something up his sleeve. What has he ever done. He coached Ulvy to a few flags in a second rate comp. He had an awesome list to work with at Dev in 98 and did nothing. Had a good list at ulvy 2001 and 02 and did nothing, players left and so did he. He only coaches a list that are strong and still cannot succeed.

More like an "old look Burnie." Plappy has brought back a few of the premiership winning blokes to help out the club's top kids. Clinton Brown, Tim Macmichael, Ben Hayes... there are a couple more too.
a second rate comp
eh, so what? not trying to be contrary, but there's no point bagging the quality of the league for the sake of it. The NTFL is a strong competition, with a bit of history behind it, and it will continue to run regardless of AFL Tasmania, the Devils, or the state league. That's more than could be said for the TSFL/Super Premier League/Southern Aussie Rules Football Association/Senior Auskick Comp/whatever-the-hell-they've-changed-the-name-to-this-year.

Moving on, what has anyone heard about some of these SANFL and VFL players Penguin, Ulvie and Burnie are supposedly chasing??

Law from Penguin has said before that he is bringing players over from the mainland. They want to be better than what he brought with him. Bit of a yapper i think. Burnie Ulv and Wyn are chasing the same player at the moment from the West Coast of Tas who has moved over from the mainland. Kirean Ford a big player who will be an asset for who ever he plays for. Ulverstone the hot favourite. Devonport suffered a big blow when Colbeck running the 1km time trials on Sat morning broke down and will not play next year. App he had shed 10kg and was in good nick.

Bit harsh with those words. Max had a good year this year but as you said had a good list.

Second rate comp when the statewide was up and going. They had players that should have been playing in that, and they were probably good enough to play in it but didn't. Law is all talk, he talked up the blokes he brought over this year, Pat kelly wasn't to bad but not worth the dollars they were giving him. As for the others, i hope they paid for their airfares home. Bloke from Centrals is quality. You don't play in premiership teams in the SANFL and VFL and be a bum. He would be a winner for sure.

law is a total pull through! pat kelly and the other guy couldnt get a kick in a power station or a bikey fight!

in other news, i have heard a whisper the new devonport coach is not happy as when he signed he was told no players would be leaving. they have lost both players who kicked 100 this year plus taylor haley to qld!

Really Hardnut, I heard something similar from a bloke in Launy, i also heard that several experienced players are not happy with him not coming to training, and are pushing for Heazlewood to coach, which wouldn't be a bad thing.

Why don't you go and worry about your own club HARDNUT?

Gee your brave saying those type of words over a bullshit forum section. How about some constructive comments and a new subject... Plappy is up and running and would expect to have a big say in where Burnie finishes in 2008 - yes i would agree though he won't risk himself prior to christmas and probably not till the 1st game in March.

I am led to believe the Reissig / Heazlewood combination is going pretty well at the minute despite the losses of a few players - Langmaid, Crowden, Higgs and Haley. If you and others are such experts what is your total thoughts on each and everyone of these player losses and whether or not they are big losses when it counts???? Your feedback would and will be interesting.

As for my club down South - we are chasing a new coah after David Newett has departed at the last mniute to the Kangaroos as a development coach - what a massive loss and what a great contribution he has made to our club... pretty hard to find a qualified replacement this time of year.

Fingers crossed that Narnie Grima, Nutta Callinan and a few of the listed Devils players get their opportunity at the best level - after tommorrow. Time will tell.

i have it on good authority that Nathan Grima will be picked up today by the Kangaroos with its first pick, if this eventuates it will be a good and just reward for a bloke who has developed late in his early career at 22 he remains a great prospect for any club and can play back or forward , i will hold saying congrats until we get the word.
good luck Narny

Spot on comment Lets move on from sticking it into Dport. They have been successfull over the years without winning one. Let Wiggins and Ressing do their job. At least they have got rid of the players that were on the big money but just couldn't preform when it counted. Weak as water in the finals. Thats been proven. No wonder Perry is locked up in a mental home they broke him good and proper.

in regards to the ace comment. i have just not heard good things about ressa. i wish him all the luck to him on keeping devonport on the up! as for docker5 comments about devonport getting rid of players who cant perform on the big stage... she aint the afl pal, you go with what you got! in regards to choking, the get beat by two burnie side who would have won with their eyes closed against any other team and for the next two years got beat by launi who have also become a superior team. if you had of got rid of these so called players who cant perform they would not have got their anyway. i think devonport have come on well in the last 6 years. they have come from bottum to nearly top.

along with dolamiteblue i think its great the boys got picked up today. i think the pitty is ian callinan not getting picked up. obviously was only down to size but a fu*ken good player to say the lease!
im hoping my club can do the double and get him and benny cousins to my club next year along with ken rainsford! :D

Fair call. But gee their experienced players have been weak. You would have to agree with that.

Hard Nut if you think you know everything - what has been said about Ressa????? Do you have a problem with him taking training once a week whilst Kurt Heazlewood continues to develop in his role with the onus on him - once a week? Gee Ulverstone are only training 4 sessions prior to Christmas.

Anyone who can coach has the ability to get his playing group fit within 3 months and if he isnt capable of this then..... probably shouldnt be in the caper!

If you read between the lines the losses Devonport have had are players moving on with work commitments, studying commitments and coaching options. I dont think personally whether the great Jesus Christ was coaching anything would be different at the Oval.

I would be interested to know what your thoughts are HARD NUT and what your issue with Devonport is. Congratulations to Narny Grima, Brodie Moles, etc on being drafted and what a terrible shame that Ian "Nutta" Callinan will never get the opportunity to show the AFL public what he is capable of. It is amazing to think what he has achieved and never been given a chance but some of these other players that get 2nd and 3rd opportunities.

ace i dont have i dont have an issue at all. if you read what i have said i said its been a good effort by them to get where they are and i havent said one bad thing about people leaving!! you cant knock guys for moving away and wanting to study down in launi. i dont have an issue at all with devonport. in fact i have said they have done extremely well as a club the last 6 years and its a credit to perry what he did for them! thats not bagging them out at all!!!
id love to see them win one for guys like mark lowe who have been their through thick and thin. we works his arse off and deserves something. in regards to ressa, i have just heard he hasnt been their much.... and i dont go much on polititions. :D

have the maggies got any recruits ace?? you would have to agree bagging the older players out is a bit harsh!

Ace i think you have the problem with Devonport mate, sounds like its fixation to me you and your Devonport Love Affair. You seem to know the in and outs of the club, as for the players not performing in big games, maybe they just werent' good enough against quality opposition. I think there is more to the Ressa situation then you are letting on Ace. The whisper is there is a (crisis) meeting this saturday due to player departures and lack of coach appearances. If Heazlewood wanted to take training consistently, i don't believe he would have withdrew his coaching application.

I think you have a point there if that was the case. Lets talk about the players from Tassy that were selected today. A real pat on the back for development in Tassy footy.

From all reports Burnie last night had full on competive work and it was no holding back type stuff. They have to make the finals this year with what they are paying out. From all reports the numbers are good. An interesting by stander was seen watching training from the sidelines Monday night. Looks as if there will be more announcements shortly. The Dockers will rise to make the five.
