They simply have to make some hard calls this year.

Wait 12 months and they’ll be trying to reshape their list when the drafts are compromised.

Of all their 30+ players they need to ship off at least 3-4 of them, and when they do that they’re going to be pretty ordinary if they get any injuries, because they have one of the worst groups of under 24’s in the comp.

Probably couldn’t pick a worse time to be on the drop.
Yeah they are essentially Richmond but two years ago

Pies fans won't exactly want to be reviewing the Ginnivan deal with Hawthorn either. The centrepiece of that deal was a 2024 second round pick swap. Collingwood would have expected that swap to be something like giving up a pick around 40 for a pick around 25. If the two teams finish in their current positions hold then it will end up being a 2 pick downgrade in rd 2 for the Pies. Your heart just bleeds for the poor old Pies. :tearsofjoy:

Actually it is worth going into detail with this one.

1. Hawks gave Collingwood their pick 33(ended up at 37 at the draft) at the 2023 draft but got pick 39(ended up at 42 in the actual draft) back from Collingwood. So Pies got a 5 pick upgrade in the second round at the 2023 draft, from pick 42 to 37.

2. Hawks give up their 2024 3rd round pick which probably now ends up in the high 40's but in return get the Pies 2024 4th rounder, probably ends up around the 60 mark this year.

So those 2 pick exchanges were very of very marginal value to the hapless Pies.

3. the jewell in the crown, the aforementioned 2024 rd 2 pick swap, with Pies projecting themselves for a top 4 finish and Hawks bottom 4. It doesn't seem to be working out like that. This is now looking like being something like Pies give up something like pick 35 and Hawks take that and give back pick 37.

Dudded. :)

And the winner is... Richmond!

Not only did they finish last, but players are out the door like --

And before anyone asks, Richmond has already fallen off their cliff this year imo and that's why they don't have a poll choice of their own.

Richmond were already over the cliff when the OP was started. The scary thing for them is that they haven't splattered against the ground just yet.

But they've got the strongest hand in a draft since GWS and Gold Coast joined the comp, is what is apparently the strongest draft class for a generation... they've got the sort of hand in which they could throw darts at a wall and probably come back with a decent spine.

Yeah it worked beautifully for the suns
