Opinion Why are the interstate teams so bad? How do we fix them?

If this is true, (couldn't be bothered checking) you may have the answer, footballers are happier in Vic, therefore play better footy.

The question why is this so though? They like the attention they get from the amplified AFL media presence in Melbourne? They like big crowds to play in front of? There are a lot more opportunities to earn extra money through endorsements?
We all know it’s not the weather.
I would be saying it would be the endorsements. Clubs don’t have to pay them as much if they have big partnerships like Carlton getting Judd with the help of big companies.

Wasn't it an ex Vic footballer calling for a review?

Where is that footballer from the interstate teams, do they even care?

I like the idea of stop buying memberships, stop going to games, but you may have left it too late, because they will just say cya later and hand your license to someone else.

But give it a try.
No they wont, who do they give them to that'll draw 40k crowds every 2nd week instantly?
They set up 2 new clubs and a decade later they still have next to no following in comparison.
They cant set up another WA state team, nor another SA state team, and weve seen what happens in QLD and NSW, even a new franchise in Tas with a promise of short term success wont garner enough following to cover 2 current non Vic sides.

Cutting off their money streams is the answer and it can be implemented by the people on the spot.
Problem is we are subject to the old divide and conquer, its every team for themselves rather than unity for the good of the collective, hell, even this website features strongly in the us vs them division amongst non Vics whereas we continually hear Vics say they'd rather a non Vic win over a cross town rival...until finals time when they give themselves away.
Its all there if you look closely enough but most dont.

How do you know it's not the weather?
Maybe that's why you can't work it out, you don't think like a footballer?

There are way more players who want to move to Victoria - that is the issue. Whether FA or by trade, how many players requesting to go to non Vic teams each year compared to Vic teams?
Tim Kelly to West Coast, Lachie Neale to Brisbane, Buddy Franklin to Sydney, last year Aliir Aliir and Fantasia to Port, every club can pick up players regardless of which state they are in, just have to make your club attractive enough. While a lot of players return to Vic there are also a lot of clubs competing for those players.

Well then, it's finalised, you seem to know the answer, get to it, fix it up then.

How do you think GWS kept it's Captain?

Teams that haven’t made a grand final over the past 15 years

Brisbane
Carlton
Essendon
Gold Coast
North Melbourne

All NSW, South Australian and Western Australian clubs have made it.

Fantasia is a South Aussie, he came home, Vic produces more youth so more do a Fantasia to Vic than otherwise, FA supports that.
Aliir has no real ties to any State, born in Kenya, SA has a large african community.
Neale is a South Australian that wanted out of Freo due to Lyon and Brisbane threw everthing into it.
Buddy left for the biggest deal to date, id jump too for that coin, losing to Sydney in 2012 probably had him thinking success up there would be a bonus and lets not forget the AFL wanted him at GWS for bums on seats in the first place so he had plenty of pressure from above to break rank.

Yes correct every club can pick players up regardless of which state they are in. That’s what I was saying.

Lol, Carlton and NM are basket cases, GC is amateur run with coaching turnover to match Carlton, Brisbane came off a 3 peat and rebuild with a few questionable coaching appointments and Essendon were already showing Geelong like Dank influence when the whistle got blown setting them back a decade.

Point was Adelaide, Port Adelaide, Fremantle, West Coast, GWS and the Swans have made a grand final over the past 15 years.

It’s good you point that clubs that are baskets cases to why they don’t make grand finals but don’t blame clubs for winning premierships, you blame the state 🤔

But more head back to Vic, thats the imbalance, you have almost 500 list spots to fit them in to.
It doesnt matter which Vic club reaps the reward from year to year, its the Vic part thats important otherwise there would be an inquiry into Carlton.

I agree, but, interstate clubs need to pay more to lure players across which is what I am saying
Do they? Did Fantasia take more to go to Port Adelaide? Did Tim Kelly take more to go to West Coast?

You see Victorians don’t support every Victorian club, people support one.

Just like I imagine you don’t support the Crows. My club does not have 500 list spots.

Port picked up Fantasia and Aliir Aliir, do you need another 450 list spots?

Becase 2 from 10 doesnt prevent the implementations from the inquiry from succeeding.
The average Victorian doesnt say Richmond won 3 flags but i wish it was NM, Carlton and Essendon with 1 each, theyre happy with the cup in Victoria, thats what matters, but they may publicly suggest otherwise.

OMG, now you know how Victorians think, we can't even think for ourselves for you to tell us no, we are wrong.

Who the hell says I’m happy for the cup in Victoria? I live in Vic and I can tell you Victorian’s rather see the cup interstate than into a rival Victorian clubs trophy cabinet.

Would you rather Adelaide win the cup so it’s South Australia?

No, they support Victorian football andanyway, it doesnt matter what each clubs fans think, its about what the AFL powerbrokers want and after 15yrs of Vic domination it isnt non Vic success i think thats pretty obvious or we wouldnt be having this discussion.
