Society/Culture Why do less intelligent people gravitate to conservative/right wing ideology.

The Daily Mail article reports upon a study by Gordon Hodson, a psychologist at Brock University in Ontario, Canada. (another Canadian Academic Psychologist but without a youtube presence). He looked at data from 2 UK studies testing child development. The subjects were
(a) 4,267 boys and 4,537 girls born in 1958;
(b) 3,412 boys and 3,658 girls born in 1970.

The tests were of
(c) verbal and non verbal intelligence; and
(d) cognitive abilities (number recall, shape-drawing tasks, defining words and identifying patterns and similarities among words).

In both surveys, 23 years later, the same groups were asked to answer a series of questions about traditions, authority and attitudes toward other races. Hodson then postulated a definition of conservatism which is undefined but looks to be based upon attitudes towards Authority and other races and concluded that low-intelligence adults tend to gravitate toward socially conservtive ideologies.

I’d very cautious about accepting the conclusions drawn by Grin and his gaggle of applauders from the article helpfully posted by Mofra
So would I.

Here's a meta-analysis that's far more wide ranging.

There is a significant body of work on the subject. Assuming the entire concept is based off a single study is folly.

Are unwelcome sexual advances punishable by death?

Last i checked, one says “no thankyou, im not interested” one doesnt go into a rage and kill someone.

Ffs mate you arent making this easy for yourself.
No, they aren’t punishable by death. But the legal system takes leniency on you if you have reasonable belief you were under threat of being assaulted.

But that's not what the gay panic defence was about.

The gay panic defence was a gay guy coming up to you and saying”hey you tall drink of water, feel like a dance”

And you being so panicked about a gay guy coming on to you that you beat him to death.

Nothing about being assaulted.

Just being hit on by a gay guy and then beating him to death was enough that you could use gay panic defence and have your charge downgraded from murder to manslaughter.

You could have googled this, understood the subject and then not waded in with ridiculous comparisons to actual assaults.

But instead, youre a conservative.

And thus, this thread exists.

Thankyou for giving the board a perfect example.

I think a lot of people on the internet overrate their intelligence compared to who they interact with.
I only hang around to make you look good.

I would hope you don't think this is some kind of normal, if you do then that says it all it needs to say:$

This was a law in qld only recently repealed because of this:

<<<
Both governments have finally responded to a tireless campaign by a Catholic priest, father Paul Kelly, in whose churchyard Ruks was found beaten to death in 2008.
One of his killers, Jason Andrew Pearce, argued during trial that Ruks tried to touch his crotch and sexually propositioned him – a claim at odds with CCTV footage from a camera that Kelly had installed.
The use of the gay panic defence was formally dropped but both Ruks’ mother, Joyce Kujala, and Kelly believe it influenced the outcome, which saw murder charges downgraded to manslaughter convictions. Pearce served four years of a nine-year sentence before getting out on parole in 2012. Richard Meerdink has applied for parole on his 10-year sentence.>>>

Then theres this

<<<
In 2023, one Hector Enrique Valencia Valencia in New South Wales was found not guilty of murder after discovering a sex worker he'd engaged with was a trans woman and proceeding to strangle her with a telephone cord. The presiding justice stated that it could not be proven beyond a reasonable doubt that Valencia had intended to seriously harm her. He was instead found guilty of manslaughter.>>>[32][33][34]

Its still law in many us states.

<<<2020 research by W. Carsten Andresen, associate professor at St. Edwards University, found that the gay and trans panic defenses were used at least 104 times across 35 states, the District of Columbia, and Puerto Rico between 1970 and 2020.>>>

if you got all the regular srp posters together and completed a basic intelligence test the results would collectively be below average, nothing surer.

I think our Friend is trying to downplay it because you said beaten to death

When it wasn't always to death, so it's all cool

It used to be.

Until VERY recently it was, as an interpretation of the 'provocation' defence. This article is from 2016/2017;

12 Aug 2016 - UPDATED 2 May 2017

The ‘gay panic defence’ is a legal argument used by defence lawyers around the world to downgrade murder charges on the basis that the defendant was ‘provoked’ into homicide by a sexual advance from the victim.

While you might expect such situations to be quite rare, a review of case law shows it to have been depressingly common. In a surge of cases between 1993 and 1995, at least 13 defendants succeeded with this defence in New South Wales alone.

The legal argument will likely be used in an upcoming retrial of a 2011 homicide in South Australia, and was successfully used after two men bashed a man to death in 2010 in Queensland.

The defence remains available for killers in South Australia...

That does not make it widespread or widely accepted behaviour, if that is indeed your implication.

Have known some far-left lefties in my time.
Some of the more nasty people I have ever had the displeasure of meeting.

But, if you are convinced in your own mind that your view is the morally correct, or the superior view, then why do you have to act like a nice person in real life?
For example, one guy i knew was always talking about fixing inequality, and the evil of capitalism, only then to abuse waiters in restaurants, or run out and purchase the latest smartphone.

That is all i have to say about that.

Unwelcome sexual advances can be threatening no matter who is involved.
Are gay people are making unwanted sexual advances towards straight men at a comparable rate to straight men making unwanted sexual advances to women wanting a night out with their girlfriends? Are gay men physically intimidating to straight men? Does every group of straight men you know have a couple of guys in there who has been physically/sexually assaulted by a man?

I know there are some men out there scared and confused by their homosexual desires and then freak out when a gay man comes on to them. "Do I look gay enough for him to not be sure?" "Why do I have a feeling of excitement at the proposition?" Just chill out. Gladly accept the drink. You've bought girls drinks before and just chatted with them. He'll only take half a drink to realise his gaydar was off. Unless you're lying to yourself and he's still staring into your eyes after the fifth drink he's bought you.
