My old man, his dad, my great grandmother and one whole side of the family were always Collingwood. Grandfather on the other side played a couple of games for South Melbourne after the war, but I wasn't told till recently. I remember getting my first black and white jumper as a little squirt with the VFL logo on it. Would collect the footy cards from the shop that smelled like bubblegum and had that powedery stuff on them, featuring players like Peter Moore, Robbie Flower, Bernie Quinlan, Daicos etc. I have never known anything else but my side. I don't understand how people can change teams and call themselves real supporters, except those from the West and SA etc who rightly had to make a choice when their states got a side. But each to their own I guess.

A close friend of mine introduced me to the sport I knew nothing about when I was about 5 or 6 living in Brisbane in 2000 I think. 'Get on the Brisbane Lions' he and his family said. Proved to be great timing when the Lions won the next 3 grand finals in a row 01-03 :D. Was devastated to the point of tears in 04, but from there they had won my loyalty and I couldn't let go as the Lions crashed out over the next few years as many of the fair weather kids in Brisbane and Sunshine Coast did. Still bought memberships and merchandise when I could.

I've always liked the Saints too for their colours and 'strength through loyalty' sentiments. They've been through a beating throughout their history but they keep giving their best for their loyal fan base . 2011 was astonishing how they managed to make it to 6th spot after the last 2 years and start to the season they had. I admire them for their resilience.
