Why everyone hates Collingwood

Jealousy. That's the only reason. How many supporters would secretly wish they had chosen the Pies as their choice? There was one guy in the comments section of that article that said we got favoritism by the AFL in regards to the draw, by way of the consecutive games we get to play at the MCG, he then goes on to say, and don't give me any of that "Other clubs want to play us there" crap. Surely this oxygen bandit should have his reproductive organ removed to protect the integrity of the human race?

Ah, isn't it great to be really disliked again!

The hate, spite & jealousy from the supporters of the 15 other clubs is why we stand alone - and love it. Their hate is what makes us the biggest and most passionate club in Australia. If people weren't so passionate about us ( positive or negative ) we would just be any other club. The AFL would be so much poorer without us.

They hate us coz they aint us. I love the hate and thats part of the reason why I chose to go for Collingwood. People hate becuase they are jealous.

We will never stand alone because we are all together :)

Actually I would say we are the team people love to hate, as opposed to just really hate.
From all accounts the current team is extremely popular amongst other supporters because they have respect for their skills and personalities, and the way they have gone about things this year.
The article claims that everyone will be joining in barracking for St Kilda, I don't think thats the case really, there's a lot more hate for Ross Lyon and a bunch of scummy players in the team, as well as their scrappy game style that has most people I know more keen for Collingwood to win.

Not surprising that you didn't give any indication of what we're all supposed to be jealous of exactly??

I can tell you it's predominantly how the club and it's supporters generally react to both wins and losses... in a word, arrogantly. Culturally, Collingwood hasn't dealt well in either regard since I've been following football(20 years). And of course I'm comparing them to the other 14 clubs' supporters I've seen over the years. I have 3 Pies supporters(so they say) in my office who are unbearable, and aren't even members. A lot of the Collingwood players don't buy into it(Swan/Pendlebury great examples), but then there's those like Didak who embrace the culture/arrogance, therefore is greatly disliked by all.

So bottom line, I think Collingwood and it's supporters will generally take the result on Saturday badly either way. I mean Eddie McGuire at the Brownlow on Monday night, refusal to produce clash guernsey.. what great examples... *shake head*.

Although justified in a way, arrogance isn't something Geelong has shied away from in the last few years.

Round 19 was a great example.

But clearly the hatred comes from both supporters and a few players.

I love Geelong supporters post 2007, lets face it before then they were pretty much like us. 44 years without a premiership (longer than out drought) and had lost 6 grand finals in between. You'd have thought it may have taught them a little humility.

Jealous....lets see, how about that chant that went around teh ground last week. I can't help but imagine how jealous most opposition fans are that Collingwood gets to play in that amazing atmosphere pretty much week in week out.

We have a clash guernsey White on black stripes. It's been approved. Just because we want to keep them both as similar as possible. Eddie has been the only one who stood up to the AFL over the wanky soccer type "away" strip. We don't need it, there really is no clash.

As for players, you had a cockstain like Matthew Scarlett showing no class rubbing it into Robert Harvey during his last game that he wasn't going to make the grand final.
BTW have heard some real sooky la la Geelong supporters around the pub here in London. Any supporter who claims their team doesn't have similar supporters to Collingwood has rocks in their heads.

I do think that most of Collingwood's playing group seem like decent guys.. Obviously the group wouldn't perform if the team was dominated by 'individuals', such as Didak. Any successful team can only handle a small group in that category.

I agree regarding arrogance in the Geelong playing group... it's obviously the case as the club hasn't put a 4 qtr effort together in 18 months, yet still wins most games. Hardly surprising, almost expected when the club has achieved success for such a long period in today's AFL environment. Geelong certainly weren't an arrogant group early in the piece though... not at all.

Most believe Geelong and its supporters generally took it's success very well. Massive favourites in '07 and I wasn't hearing the 'we pretty much have it in the bag' type stuff I'm hearing from Pies supporters at the moment. We didn't have a StKilda to face off of a GF loss the previous year either. Talk about this GF being a double edged sword for Collingwood and it's supporters.. Champions or pretenders?

I used to feel sorry and have respect for Geelong but since their supporters have gotten so cocky I cannot stand them. I respect all Carlton, Essendon and Richmond supporters because they stick by their team win lose or draw. I know it's not every supporter but the amount of band-wagon, closet-case Geelong supporters has been ridiculous.

Like I've said before, please go back to the beach and surf because my life is much better than listening to your sh*t.

funny you say ....was over in adelaide for the prelim(port 04) awhile back and they were horrible.....

I'm after just abit of niggle...always good to stir bit of emotion before a granny...
i don't rlly believe collingwood fans are worse/better then other fans...Every group has its fair share...

as for why you are hated...mmm who knows....i'm not sure why i hate you...just have a deep seeded hatred, possibly part of my upbringing.

goodluck on the weekend, not to much luck though

Yer they are terrible up there. People in Victoria will obviously hate our fans and club more but if Port Adelaide and even Adelaide were a Victorian club they would be the most hated club in the league.

I was wondering why people hate Collingwood so much too. Where does it stem from? Seems as though it's just become a thing to do. If you don't support Collingwood, you hate them. But a lot of Pies supporters seem to say they enjoy all the hatred anyway.

Can't say I've too much of a problem with Pies fans over the years. Most of them weren't abusive at all. It's definitely a bit of a stereotype. All clubs have some nasty supporters. Trying to get out of Melbourne through all the Port fans after the '04 grand final was brutal. ;-)

The sheer passion you guys have for your team is great to see. The chant that echoed around the ground at the prelim last week was phenomenal.

The respect is appreciated "the_lion_king"!

A mate of mine said how embarrassing is the footy when you hear collingwood clap clap clap collingwood clap clap clap when compared to the soccer overseas when they have chants and songs and all sorts. Obviously we don't want to become violent or abusive like them but something different adds to the atmosphere. I was there and was impressed and joined in but the actual roar across the ground when we kicked a couple of the goals early was the most amazing sound i've ever heard. That's what I live for.

I think each team has some people who can embarrass as a supporter but it's not the supports we follow. We follow the team, I think people forgot that.

Like I said earlier I like the hatred but the thing that pisses me of is when people refuse to respect us and say we are a good side when we are actually are.
