Why is the AFL playing the game between COLLINGWOOD and ESSENDON on the cow paddock at Docklands where the capacity is 50,000 ???

The game should be played at the MCG on saturday night . Surely the centre wickets can be removed on time !!!

Because the mcg is still contracted to cricket Victoria, meaning the AFL would need to pay extra to use it and more then likely pay Etihad extra as that contract states they host Victorian nab cup matches

If geelong collingwood fit in 2009, then you can be pretty sure essendon collingwood will fit

I'll be shocked if it's even a sellout next week, most pies fans know what this game is, and that is a glorified last practice match.

Injuries galore tonight with Mitch Brown, Natinui, Tom Hunter and Maxwell. And now we have to play again in another rough encounter next week that in reality means nothing, was hoping to lose tonight but that wasn't the case!

There used to be an extra incentive for teams who win the NAB Cup / Premiership double - like an extra million or something. Not sure if they still have it though.

I think it is stupid! Collingwood atm have 56,000 members and Essendon have 40,000! he game at the MCG would of Drawn 80,000 as the pies and Dond have the two biggest following in the country!

No idea, and no idea, the AFL website hasn't updated at all since last night.

I'm guessing tickets go on sale 9am tomorrow, and AFL members will get their normal allocation of 3000 bottom deck seats at $5 or so, but it's just a plain guess.

Not looking forward to dealing with Ticketmaster again, they are pathetic.

It's not really a practic match. There are 16 other clubs this weekend (including GWS) who are playing legitimate practice matches where the score doesn't matter.

The score matters in the Coll-Ess game because both clubs are playing for a trophy, so it's not a practice match. It's probably the equivalent of what the Carling Cup is to English Soccer. Most clubs don't really care but when you get to the Final, they think "Hey, I wanna win now!"

I would have thought Pie fans would be jumping at the opportunity to bludgeon Essendon again in a Grand Final. The Pies havn't won that many trophies over the last 30 years, really. I've seen the Bombers win 5 pre-season Cups and all were great.

You watch as the apathy a lot of fans have change when the ball is bounced and all of a sudden, everyone will be wanting their club to win badly.
