Universal Love Why Kirby must play AFL seniors!

I hope he sinks the slipper in to it a bit more at AFL level. They tend to have the awareness to have a defender on the goal line at that level. For some reason our boys seem to execute snap shots as if they're playing in Mum's living room and trying not to break the vase. Send the thing 10 rows back.

Who needs pieku?

Kirby was quite large
Many laps and many hugs
Soon to be a star

Winter storm unleashed

Defenders howl in fury

A force of nature

Ball drops, Magpie swoops
Kirby goals, hail the new star
Makes it look easy

Quite the recovery from him. According to some so called supporters was just a few weeks ago he was fat and about to either quit or be sacked by the club.

Almost 5 months ago you mean and that came from another board just on forwarded here for discussion, which at the time was at the least partially correct (put on weight over Christmas) and he has since worked hard to correct his diet.
There were concerns over the rumours and pictures at the time as we all wanted to see him come on and do well as we knew he had talent to burn.

So not sure what kind of moral victory you think you have found here...

Listening to Rivers in the vfl roundup video it doesnt sound like the club thinks he's ready for the step up, putting him behind Callum Brown. (Although very positive they also talk about the improvement still to come and Kirby needing to keep putting in the hard work which he is doing).

The thing I liked most about the clips are not his goals, but his chase and tackles. A young SF in his first few AFL games is not gonna put on much scoreboard pressure - we have to accept that. It is by showing the defensive side - to keep his man accountable, keeping the ball locked up, and getting enough tackles, and doing this over 4 qtrs- that will get him into the game... do that and the goals will come (for a guy as talented as KK). Don't do those things and suddenly we are playing a man down defensively and the opposition can easily open up space against us and get easy rebounds and goals.

I find it really weird to see this continually, it was a staple of my junior career that all players had to chase and tackle. Is VIC footy in the juniors very open and one way?
Much like no "U turns" as a team rule ie the player running at you should receive and have the field of play open to him to make the best decision and execute the best kick. As well as you can't see whats behind you like an opponent coming.

Bucks said he won't play.

Think he more Next Year Prospect for the AFL
Why do you crush my dreams TD?
Blair will be quite likely to get his old spot back this week, when they could have taken a risk on Kirby. Blair (if selected) will probably put in his usual honest battling performance, but I'm pretty sure Melbourne would be very happy that he's there rather than the unknown quantity in Kirby.

I'm worried that it will be a long while before we see him debut if they really want him to look AFL-ready in terms of his fitness. Given our injury/forward woes and the fact that we need to keep winning games to be a finals chance, I think this week they needed to take a punt.

Who will Blair replace given Brown and Fasolo are already confirmed in's?

I wasn't aware of that news (when I posted that), I had only just read Dave's post regarding Buckley's (apparent) comment about Kirby not playing. So, Blair will have to wait at least another week to play game no. 150, which is fair enough!

I'm very pleased to see we are giving young Brown a debut this week (and of course that Fasolo is playing again), but I still would have played Kirby, perhaps he's not quite ready, but I think it was a risk worth taking.

Such desolation!

Spring-like shoots of wondrous hope

Killed by ugly fact

I'd imagine hey are monitoring Kirby's GPS numbers very closely and would know exactly how far he is off senior selection. I'd expect to see him at senior level after the bye if he continues with his current form.

Give him a taste of it and see what he needs to do to become a regular AFL standard player.

He should be good for a half anyway and can't be any worse than some others taking a spot at the moment.

Bring out the Kirby plz
