Will Freo go winless in 2016

I have generally liked Lyon, however, if he can't manage to beat rebuilding teams with his 26 year old 100+game "young team" then you would have to seriously re-assess his viability to take the team forwards long-term, you can't seriously go from minor premiers to wooden spooners without there being some fundamental problems with the coaching irrespective of the injury issues to some core players.

The team he fielded on the weekend averaged 26 years of age and had 107.7 games of experience, that shouldn't be remotely close to the ballpark of a team without any wins heading for the spoon. Most of the rebuilding sides are around 23 years of age and have 60-80ish games, we aren't even in Fremantle rebuild territory yet, this is pre-rebuild. What is he going to produce when the team starts to shed off the older players? Is he going to create the right learning & development environment for them? Is he in touch with the direction the game is heading and is he able to adjust as it continues to change?

There are some concerning alarm bells. My club has sacked any coach that is unable to win more than 7 games in my lifetime and we have only had 7 coaches in my lifetime from the 70s to now. There is massive difference between poor years and being uncompetitive.

Lyon has won 2 out of every 3 games since joining the dockers, he could spend a full year getting beaten every game while he rebuilds and still be ahead of your coach on a win loss footing.

You are going to need to win the flag this year, the end will come quickly for the Roos as it did with us, your team is pretty old.

You think you will play finals next year?

Unlikely, but not off the cards pending trade period. With Fyfe and Bennell fit we will have arguably the best midfield in the comp next year after all. I think the more relevant observation here though is your assertion that you know more about the Freo list than Freo supporters. When will you stop teasing yourself and admit you are a Freo supporter?

I don't like Freo.....butttttt there's no way they will go winless. They will win a game at home at some stage.

i dont think you're factoring in how significant the drop off has been from the veterans and how the game is changing, that's not going to get any easier

I think it will get easier as the restructuring has started. It won't be easy but your comment suggests it's going to get worse.

i think it will get worse you will be 0-8, do i think you will start next in a poorer position? no

but you are absolutely no hope of playing finals next year, this isnt a mini rebuild, done in 24 months. this a long rebuild, you are going to need multiple picks inside the first 25 picks, across several drafts

If you drop out Pav's 340 games and age you are getting pretty close to 80 games and average age of 23. I wouldn't expect too much regression from where we are at.

Our list when Scott was appointed at the end of 2009:

Thompson
Gibson (requested trade)
Firrito
McMahon (delisted)
Petrie
Swallow
McIntosh (traded)
Rawlings (retired)
Thomas
Urquhart (delisted)
Harding (delisted)
Simpson (retired)
Power (delisted)
Hale (traded)
Hansen
Harvey
Pratt (delisted)
Goldstein
Grima N. (retired - back)
Campbell (delisted)
Greenwood (traded)
Edwards (delisted)
Ziebell
Harris (delisted)
Jones (delisted)
Anthony (delisted)
Lower (delisted)
Warren (delisted)
Ross (delisted)
Wells
O'Keefe (delisted)
Adams (retired - concussion)
Smith (delisted)
Garlett (delisted)
Wright
Watt (delisted)
Obst (delisted)
Riggio (delisted)
Grima B. (delisted)

Only 10 players from the dumpster squad given to him survived, some lasted longer than others but we turned over approximately a third of our list (including rookies) every year over the first three years of Scott's first three years the list was that bad. Despite that, despite inheriting a team that ended in the bottom four and was a favourite for the spoon he still managed to win 11, 10 and 14 games in those early years.

Lyon inherited a much stronger list when he came to Fremantle and he went 17-5 last year, he doesn't have a winless calibre list. He has already had a number of years to develop the list and manage the list before this season.

Maybe, maybe not. Our list development strategy isn't solely focused on the short-term, our older players are still in pretty good form but if they weren't playing well then we have a decent second tier ready to come in.

We need the player turnover because we have players ready to go who are bridging the gap between them and the older players. I think the contribution of players like Petrie and Harvey now are at a point where we don't need a quantum jump in terms of the calibre of players replacing them, they have slowly declined year by year while still maintaining reasonable form, they just don't seem to be as irreplaceable as they were a few years ago.

I am not expecting a cataclysmic decline, we may not be contending again for a while depending on how well the players come up to speed but I still think we will field a competitive team.

All teams have a few older dinosaurs, even young rebuilding teams.

AT the start of the year

"Carlton has the worst list in living memory, they won't win a game in 2017"

Fast forward to rd 7, Carlton have won x3 in a row.

Freo will win MULTIPLE games in 2016, they could very well have x2 wins in the next 4 weeks considering that they play both Richmond and Essendon in Perth.

Probably just shows that stat is irrelevant then... There is no question Freo are actually playing youngsters this year. Maybe not all at once, but they do seem to be rotating them.

I think they might win a few, 4-6. Ross will play the kids over the role players, anyone who has surgeries upcoming will have that pushed forward, and players returning from injury won't be rushed back. All that said, at subi they will knock off a few teams still.

Sorry I'm a bit unsure on how this process works. At what point do we start blaming Harvey?

Fremantle won 17 games in 2015 h&a season.

As you have said, they have not had a dramatic turnover in their list.

How can you state that they are now so mad that they won't win a game in 2016 ...............
