Will we make finals?

Other than last year where we faltered towards the end, it’s a constant theme of Bevo’s teams that they take way too long to get going. 2019 & 2020 saw us with strong late season form to sneak into the finals as well. It’s quite frustrating.
It does seem like we find our best mix and sort of stick to the basics with it in the 2nd half of the year, then come round 1 everything we learnt about our team selection seems to get thrown out of the window again and we get all the weird & wacky selections, like we’ve just completely forgotten what works and mostly what doesn’t, from the year before

Definitely frustrating

Chances are that we will out of 8 and as low was 10th after this round unless we beat the cats. We will be rooting for the Lions and Hawks to win one or both is a possibility. If that does not happen we will then need to win our last 3 games which I think we will but we will need the tigers and the saints to drop a game which is highly likely but means making the 8 is not just us winning.

The Tigers play

Lions MCG
Port AO
Hawks MCG
Bombers MCG

The Saints play

Hawks Marvel
Cats GMHBA
Lions Marvel
Swans Marvel

So the tigers are the bigger danger only playing one team above them the lions however the other 3 games are far from easy.

If we make it I hope the pies finish 5th we were the last team to beat them and we won easily. I think their fast footy suits us and would be confident of beating them.

bevo thinks he's bart cummings, gets them to peak at the right time

and you know what, this might sound outlandish, but & yes it's like a big but (& i can not lie ), if we beat geelong this week, what's to stop us going all the way

:ducks for cover:

If Jamarra can kick five every game from now on then the flag is ours

2006 vibes here.

IIRC, this was Cameron
Wight's best game for us.

My first final. We were so confident we would smack them and we did.
I wonder where this would rank on most supporters' lists of favourite wins. It's pretty high up for me.

1. 2016 GF
2. 2016 PF
3. 2016 SF
4. 2021 SF
5. 2021 PF
6. 2016 EF
7. 1997 QF
8. 2006 EF

If we make the Finals, I'm hoping that we play at the MCG on my 70th birthday - Sat Sept 3rd. If so, I'll be there. I spent my 50th birthday in the bleachers at Wrigley Field watching the Cubs win. My 60th was supposed to be spent having dinner at Gordan Ramsay 'Steak' Restaurant in Las Vegas. Unfortunately I was ill at the time and the trip was postponed. I did celebrate my 61st birthday there the next year.

Congrats on making it to septuagenarian status. That's a good innings mate.

Thanks, but I haven't made it yet! A year ago today I almost died of a saddle pulmonary embolism(SPE). Thank God that the ambulance wasn't delayed like they have been recently. The doctors at Royal Melbourne saved my life.

Well if you don't make it then 69 is a great number to go out on! Win/win either way

2016 PF is the best game of footy I've ever seen
2021 SF against brissie also highly underrated on this list

Its so weird that we are able to have this conversation. The Tigers last 3 games have produced crazy results. By all rights they should have won at least two of the past three, and possibly won all of their last 5.

They should have at least another 2.5 wins from their past 5 games imo, which would have shut the door on our finals hopes. Agreed, it's amazing how things have worked out that we're a live chance for finals after the thumpings by Brisbane and Sydney.

Given how the season has gone thus far, I wouldn't be at all surprised if the tigers beat the lions, saints won too and we lost to Geelong and dropped to tenth. Then we'd need to win the last three to get in I would think - which tbf is probably right. If we can't beat Freo at home, then a flailing GWS and a non-finals hawks side (even though it's in Tassie) after our up and down performance all year, then we're not making much of a dent in September imo.

2016 elimination final is criminally underrated. Not one person tipped us to win and after the first 10 minutes Kennedy and Darling had already kicked a goal and we looked freaking shaky. Next 3.5 quarters we absolutely demolished them.

All 2016 finals are special and entrenched in our memories because the crescendo was reached in GF

I always think of the 2016 finals because of the GF win.

Not sure how I would see them without the gf

Absolutely, 10 Minutes in, I’m sure we all thought ‘here we go again’. Then something changed….

Nothing getting back to a full squad , if Bruce finds some form we could be a handful to any club
