Will we make finals?

We're still a reasonable chance. Carlton will start as underdogs in their 3 final games and we start as favourites in our last 2. You'd expect at least 1 to go to against the odds but if all 5 of those games go to the favourites, we will probably finish 8th. Assuming we make up a small amount of % and Saints don't beat both Sydney and Brisbane.

Still think it comes down to the final Sunday of the year...

Hawthorn v Dogs
Carlton v Collingwood
St Kilda v Sydney

Another guilt-edged opportunity against a team that has been our nemesis in the last round of the year in the past.

Masochist. Give it up already 😂

Hope we don’t make it. Will be an embarrassing and pointless exit in the first week if we do. Not making finals sends a bigger message.

The last few weeks has been torturous. This team isn’t good enough, and is incredibly poorly coached. I’d rather it was put out of its misery tomorrow.

I know, this season just won't die. I can see us going into the final round with some level of hope and being crushed again. I'm in the camp that if we do end up making it, it's a good thing - I know that doesn't seem popular here though.

I’d genuinely rather we missed finals and that change within the footy department happened. The first half of today’s game cemented my opinion that the current version is hopelessly flawed and will destroy this list if not forced to change approach.

Making finals would be a negative imo. It would gloss over fundamental flaws in coaching, match committee and general footy operations. That might make me a bad supporter but I honestly believe it would be bad for the club.

Nothing will change anyway ... they'll recruit Lobb and Jones and expect to be at the pointy end

I would hope that even if we made finals the club would still be taking a very close look at what needs to be fixed, of which there's plenty. Finishing 9th vs 8th is not the difference between doing everything vs doing nothing, and if you can play final/s you should jump at that chance.

You’d hope so, but I wouldn’t bet on it.

We know nothing about how the club is assessing the performance of the coach and the footy department. Is making the eight the main KPI? Is there any context given our list profile?

The Bevo/current state supporters will point to a flag and two GFs in seven years. Difficult to argue against that, except to say we’ve only won a final in one year in the last six when we’ve had a pretty decent list every time.

Bottom line is to accept this year’s performance in the context of the last six would be poor imo.

So we need the blues to lose the 3 remaining games, the saints one and us win the last 2 by enough to pass the blues on percentage. Possible but unlikely. We do not deserve to make it and would be smashed anyway. There is so much we need to improve in our game. The positives have been JUH looks like he will be very good, Ed has gone ahead in leaps and bounds, Buku shows a lot and Sam could be anything.

Well percentage may be a moot point by the end of this. By definition if percentage is above 100 and you lose it must go down and vice versa. So basically Carlton lose to Melbourne and Collingwood and we beat GWS and Hawthorn we are in if Brisbane can boost this lead by just a little bit more.

Plus Saints lose one vs Brisbane or Sydney

Until the Lions concede 7 last quarter goals! They seem to have an issue running out games

I don’t think we need to hope they don’t make finals so the club conducts a thorough review. It’ll happen anyway.

If it’s obvious to amateur’s like us that our seasons been poor, I’m sure a professional sporting organisation has some idea too.
The club would conduct monthly and annual reviews regardless of performance or ladder position.

It’s pretty clear going on previous press conferences that there’s list issues the clubs aware of. There’s also been mention of the strange assistant coaches situation we found ourselves per season, pointing to changes there. We’d already be balls deep in correcting what went wrong this year, with any onfield adjustments getting sorted once the seasons over.
Us playing in finals and giving the fans something to be excited about won’t change a single thing in that regard.

Too many Debbie Downers in here. I’ll 100% be be up and about if we make finals. Best time of the year.
