Don't laugh guys, Matt Rendell is in charge.

Okay, back to reality.

David Myers is what I'm envisioning. No reasons need to be given, just state your selection.

I keep changing my mind every day. I'll let you know if my thoughts tomorrow are the same as the ones I have right now... :p

:p Must be hard for you VC. You’ve got to know all these youngsters so well and we can only draft a few. So many choices and yet so few will be Crows. All I can say is that with all the research you’ve done, if you’re disappointed in our pick then we’re doomed. :p

If we pick up a whole bunch of WA kids then it will also suck for me. All that research for a heap of guys I've only seen play two or three times at most! I'm a little rusty on some of the SA guys too actually, but I figure there'll be enough people on here to cover those blokes as I imagine we'll take two or more.

The difficulty I'm having with Pick 10 is that I just can't get settled on one player that I really want at the Crows that I also think the club would be interested in. A lot of the guys around that mark I wouldn't be disappointed with, but I just haven't been able to get a clear favourite in my head. The more I think about it, the more Grimes appeals to me and what I think would appeal to the club. I had always put his range on 8-20 but never really thought of him at the Crows until last night. It makes sense and I'll do a full profile of him tomorrow because I've probably seen more of him than most other juniors this year.

Bad News. The draft seems to be filtering into some sort of consensus at the top. The first four picks will be some mix of Kreuzer, Morton, Cotchin and Masten. Picks five and nine will be talls (Grant, Henderson, McEvoy). Picks six and seven will be West Australian runners (Palmer, Myers).

So it is a question of what Brisbane will do.

Good News. The draft NEVER goes as people expect, so someone will have a flyer, and I think there is a great chance that one of Essendon, Brisbane or St Kilda will do something unexpected.

My pick? Jack Grimes.

Im holding out for Ebert.

I know theres no hope in hell he'll slide past 8, but damn it, im not compromising.

Im hoping those queensland idiots (no offence, just a fiure of speech:p) realise they will lose him in two years, you can put your house on it. He isnt your standard run of the mill interstate recruit after all

The more I think about it, the more Grimes appeals to me and what I think would appeal to the club.

Would you take him ahead of Palmer, Ebert, Rioli, Meyers, Henderson, Grant, Gourdis, Rance & McEvoy?

Assuming naturally that Kreuzer, Masten, Cotchin & Morton are gone in the 1st 4 picks

I know you were asking Vic Crow, but I think we would take Ebert, then Palmer/Meyer, then probably Grimes. I just can't see us prioritising a KPP. There is too much unpredictability with the KPP's this year - Grant could be a champion or out the league in two years. We need to minimise the risk on this pick.

Palmer, Ebert, Myers, Grant and Rance will almost certainly be gone by our first pick.. So the question you pose is almost certainly irrelevant.. Sorry, but you should have put more thought into that question!

Get real Stazza

You name "Palmer, Ebert, Myers, Grant and Rance will almost certainly be gone by our first pick"

Add to them "Kreuzer, Masten, Cotchin & Morton".

That equals 9 players, so you're saying the 1st 9 picks are almost certainties?

That'd be a first in the draft's history, there's always some players drift, & some bolters.

Now for the question I asked Vic Crow

I listed a group of players who I reckon will be around the mark for picks 5 - 20, and then asked if Grimes would be taken before all of them

Now what the hell is wrong with that?

Taking pot shots at Port supporters is fun for you guys, but at least try and be sensible

...Player number 113293, Bradley Ebert, Port Adelaide Magpies :D :(

Fingers crossed!

I'm going the same way Stiffy, and I think there's a fair chance that it will happen.

The general consenus amongst the "experts" appears to be that Myers star has risen strongly in the past couple of weeks and put him in the top 10 which just might squeeze Ebert to us.

Rioli was my fall back selection but it would appear that this highly skilled quality player has either deliberately or unintentionally interviewed like a disinterested dog for any non Melbourne clubs showing an interest in him. That makes him a massive gamble and therefore one to avoid.

While I'm sticking with Ebert, VicCrow may well be right with Grimes if Ebert is gone by our pick.

Ebert.

I think Vic Crow is spot on with Grimes if Ebert is not there. My biggest fear in the top 10 is Brisbane!

i think you talk sense - we can actually get some good debate/discussions going on these boards sometimes if people left the pot shots at opposing supporters for Bay 13 and its good to have other clubs' supporters contributing

(having said that - unfortunately i'm not allowed to post on Port's board due to my signature :(

Mind you when you're talking about top 10 picks you're talking about geniune talent so backflipping all over the place is to be expected. I'm worried about more than just Brisbane tbqh.

But don't worry, I'm pretty sure Rendell wears glasses so he will have a plan.

>_>

my choice would be Ebert if he is still there but it sounds as though Brisbane may take him.

If so, then I would choose Rioli despite the expressed thoughts that he prefers to stay in Victoria. From what i've read, he can be a midfielder and he must have some sort of endurance given his repeat sprint results at the draft camp. As for his puppy fat - lots of indigenous players have that at a young age (even the Davey brothers).
Anyway, I would pick him for 3 reasons:
(i) IMO he can be the type of m/f & forward we have lacked since McLeod
(ii) I discount the staying in Melbourne bit completely - did we not
miss out on Nick Stevens for exactly that same reason years ago
subsequently leading to Fantasia saying that he wouldnt be caught out
again by that reasoning.
(iii) Most importantly, IMO he is definitely a super talent and can be a star
(something we lack & rarely get an opportunity to draft)

I'ld prefer that to selecting a safe, 100+ average player

However, i think the AFC will select Ebert (if available), otherwise Henderson

our 10th pick heavily relies on who the other clubs will take. the first 5-6 are pretty much givens but picks 7-13 are all depending on which club prefers for their own clubs situation. This will effect all of the previous predictions.

Fingers crossed Adelaide have Ebert available at pick 10 which is a bit of a 50/50 at the moment with Brisbane the real threat, and Brisbane aren't afraid to draft interstate players either.

Wasn't Grimes being hyped up as a top 3-5 selection earlier this year? From what I've read about him, certainly wouldn't be disappointed with taking him at 10.

I'm really worried about all the Henderson talk from Matt "We'll laugh about it later" Rendell. With the injury concerns/kicking concerns/potential go home factor, it just seems incredibly risky. Not to mention we went taller than intended last year, so it's not really what we need.

I recall Darren Jarman saying that Andrew McLeod was a bit chubby when macca arrived on the scene at Adelaide.

Darren Jarman was at Hawthorn in 1994 - 95 (McLeod was taken in the 1994 trade period)

Jarman definitely said it i have it on the Jarman video which was released.

It goes to show that the chubby young players can lose the weight and go on to become absolute guns.
