“Since the start of the project, we have wanted the Paris 2024 Games to be an opportunity to discover and promote a more responsible way of eating from an environmental point of view,” the president of Paris 2024, Tony Estanguet, said in a statement. “… From athletes, volunteers and collaborators to spectators and media, everyone will be able to experiment with a more plant-based diet during the Games.”

Ah yes, this should be the focus for the Olympics.

Given in the past one of the major criticisms of the Olympics as an event has been that it's a massive burden upon hosting countries - financially and waste-wise -, often leaving financial black holes and major infrastructure wasting away, I can see what they're going for.

Vegan food will save nothing on that…

They tell you what this is all about:

'promote a more responsible way of eating from an environmental point of view'

The meat industry is a massive environmental burden, it's incredibly wasteful. This isn't a new thing. Their execution in terms of providing for the athletes who would obviously want to eat a diet they're most used to was flawed, but in terms of crowd meals and stuff, no issue.

Unlike a vegetarian or vegan who might not have eaten meat and/or eggs for a long, long period of time (or ever) the chances are most meat eaters eat 'plant based' foods all the time.

Hot chips are a plant-based food, for example.

You said they're giving 'non vegan athletes vegan food'.

They're not. Athletes are being given meat.

Around 15,000 international athletes will stay at the Olympic and Paralympic Village with 40 different meals on offer every day based on four themes...

... Every athlete will find something to their liking. Plus, there will be a salad bar with over 30 options, a grill with meat and sides, a cheese section, a bakery section, a hot food buffet, a dessert bar and a wide range of fruits.

Here are actual options from the menu:

Examples of meals on the menu in the main restaurant:

France:
  • Veggie Bourguignon
  • Brandade de morue (salt cod and potato mash)
Asia:
  • Minced pork and Thai basil/basmati rice
  • Cauliflower and baked potato with turmeric
Africa/Caribbean:
  • Bell pepper, onion, tomato and pepper stir fry (Chakchouka)
  • Fried shrimp with chermoula sauce
World cuisine:
  • Lamb and mint juice reduction
  • Veggie Moussaka

In addition to the grill and cheese bar, there are literally meat options for everyone in every set meal.

You're just parroting Sky news talking points, where they seize upon anything to create as sense of faux outrage among conservative dickheads.

They clearly state it was a large focus and 60% of meals were vegan/vego.

Due to this the ran out when people refused to eat it.

Twist it whatever you like but the facts are they attempted to push an agenda over giving athletes food they actually require.

A clear agenda -

They clearly state it was a large focus and 60% of meals were vegan/vego.

And 40 percent were not vegan, there was a non vegan option for every meal served, along with a meat grill and cheese selection available at all times.

So people were not forced to be vegan at all, despite what Sky news is telling you to whine about.

Twist it whatever you like but the facts are they attempted to push an agenda over giving athletes food they actually require.

So are you saying that private catering companies, and government bodies should not be working to reduce climate change?

Who should then?

Woke Olympics all about pushing the woke agenda to restrict freedom of choice and thought.

If I had my way those woke vegans would be forced to have a steak on their plate whether they like it or not!

How do you go through life being so triggered by insignificant issues? Have you thought about getting help for snowflake syndrome?

I would have thought high performance athletes should have their nutritional needs catered for rather than having an agenda pushed on them.

If they don't want 60% vegan options, it's shitty catering.

They're not going to stop global warming by having so many vegan options in the Olympic village FFS.

No-one is 'pushing an agenda' on anyone.

The caterers (and presumably the French government) are seeking to reduce climate change.

The athletes are willing participants in attending and competing in an event put on by the French authorities, and catered by the same catering company.

Climate change isn't political. Its a scientific reality. The only people that make it political are your mob on the Right side of politics, because Exxon and Chevron and co pay the politicians on your side of politics a shit load of money to do so.

So they identified a supply shortage due to demand, then rectified the supply shortage.

Supply and demand at work.

I'm not arguing that climate change is fake.

How much climate change will be averted as a result of the plethora of vegan options for athletes?

Elite athletes have specific dietary requirements that they have been using for years in preparation that need to be met.

And they are being met:

https://olympics.com/en/paris-2024/our-commitments/the-environment/food-vision

It sounds like it hasn't gone entirely smoothly, but the sky is hardly falling down, and its for a good cause that is bigger than the Olympics.

Still. Conservatives wanna bitch about it, even though the end goal is literally 'saving the planet from destruction'.

The issues would no doubt be blown up a quite bit but it should be in 100% order beforehand ready for when they get there, not 3 days later.

It's not catering for a summit of middle aged politicians, it's fuel for the world's most elite athletes.

I'm sure they have Uber Eats in Paris.

Weird that you put the performance of athletes over that of the people running the world.
