we found out who gonna stand beside us and whos not? cant remember the exact words but it was after we beat the kangaroos by 4points after wells went down in the warm up and they had to play 3 ruckmen and 1 of them had allready played a game in the vfl and didnt 1 of there players get injured b4 half time and knights went on about his "vison" foward i dont think his "vision" was to get sacked a day after the final game of the season lol

"Passion" must be the most overdone word in football. I don't care how passionate people are if they're inept. In fact if they're inept they'd do less damage if they were disinterested.

Can't believe I forgot this:

"structures".

Sick to ****ing death of this word. By players especially, but also coaches, commentators etc.

Half of the players don't even use it correcltly, or just say "we stuck to our structures" without giving it any actual thought.

I'm hoping it disappears sooner rather than later.

Our game plan needs fine tuning..

1)" we ( or they ) came to play " ...we always turn up anyway

2)" its game on " ...it always is all year 24/7

3) " in my time " ...thats past , this is now

4) " our defence is good " ... we know better

5) " our forwards are even better than i thought "...we know better

6) " our mids are slow " ...we know that

7) " our team lacks cohesion and team play " ...we know that

In other words your there Mr Hird and co to FIX the problems ASAP.

recruit wisely and DONT leak info out into the MEDIA

Be prepared, watching Hird on the couch and commentating he just loved coming out with the latest terminology. Knighter was bad with his corporate speak, Hird will be his equal or worse.

Nothing could be worse than the standard lines Knights dished out every week. The problem with Knights was that you could see the stress in his face when the shit was flying from all directions and the more he tried to cover it up with his 'visions' and 'journeys' speeches the more we felt less confident in knowing that he knew what the #### he was doing.

I have my fears too that Hird will go for the 'corporate' approach when it comes to facing the media. He can be so straight laced at times you would think he was born in 1940.

But I saw him on GF eve on BTG doing a short interview with Lloydy by his side and for once we saw the relaxed, casual, no stress Hird personality that we know is in there. He made a joke about how the supporters will not be so loving after he loses his first game as coach.

The real test will come if we start losing mutiple games in row. How he handles the pressure will be interesting to watch.

I reckon he will be able to handle it. Just hope that smart wife of his pulls him up if he starts using the same annoying words and phrases too much.

"I'm bullish about this list"

"Stanton is an elite midfielder"

"We just need to go out and play with some dare"

Basically any sentence that Matthew 'Worst coach in the history of AFL football' Knights used.

It's honestly like waking up from a bad dream

"I thought we really matched them for the first five minutes of the game and that was a real positive" (shame about the next 3 and half quarters when we got smashed by 10 goals)

"Its not really about winning and losing.. its about a journey we are on" (I would prefer less travel and more winning thanks!)

I take it you are not a structuralist. Maybe a structural-functionalist?

Did Knights ever say that?

I thought Jobe was our only A grader according to Knights.

You're right.

Knights words were "Brent Stanton is an elite midfielder"....

When it was said I nearly fell over.

It was said in the imediate couple of weeks following his appointment at the end of '07. A sad indightment on both his judgement of football talent and understanding of the modern game.

Maybe Knights meant Stants is elite by Richmond standards

The comments regarding Watson were made I think 'on the counch' this year. He'd either had an opportunity to properly aquaint himself with the game or revise his opinion on what an 'elite' midfielder is .

Either way, by naming Stanton as an elite midfielder as he did at the end of '07, the alarm bells were ringing for me. He proved to be a worse coach than what I had feared. Thankfully he is gone and we can move on from what was a black mark on our club.
